I'm putting it out there in the universe: She's going to be my honorary big sister someday!
Shane C it'll happen
You Betta speak that into existence!
This aged very well ✨✨✨
This is *sage* advice. When you network across rather than up, you're able to pull your whole team up. Edit//I just noticed that the title is "brokenness" instead of "brokeness" LOL. Wow.
haute03 okay I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that.
When I read "brokenness" i thought I was in for a very deep and introspective conversation.
And it is!!
HappenedBefore Same. Being "broke" and "broken" affect creativity in VERY different ways.
@@MrEwanRoy me too lmao i was looking for life advice 😂
you go girl!! smart, beautiful and powered by purpose. I see greatness in your future. God's blessings over you.
Her highlight though!😍
Ra Rah yep!!! I was staring at it too lol 😍
Exactly!
This is my girl I remember when she was just on youtube 2009
I love her positivity!!! 😀
So good to see her succeed AND put her people on!! Baby-Voice Darius, the white temp guy, CeCe, etc. I love Issa!!!
She just referenced Moesha and Love and Basketball as inspiration! I'm in love!
I love spotting faces from her web series when watching ‘Insecure’
I just love this conversation about "brokenness" fueling creativity. As I listen after just filming with three lamps, under the dining room chandelier lights and next to the kitchen for even more light. Couldn't wait to get that wig off my head, because even though I look cute, I'm not a wig wearer. Eyeliner smudged, got to pack up my new microphone and headset and put away all the handmade props. Yesssss, I know all too well about how not to let limited resources hinder your creativity. I am so inspired by this young lady!
This lady emanates distinction & a brilliant mind!!! ...and doesn't have to work hard at it.
Beautiful Lady!!! ....100%
Inspiration!!!!!
Cee Bee she did attend Stanford University
I love the honesty of this woman!
she's so beautiful, sincere and talented. The perfect human
Loved Issa from ABG days, so nice to watch the come up!
I love issa. So glad she's getting her shine
I started not to write this, but I "listened" to this interview with here TWICE. (Yesterday I was in a depressed mood. Because I have wanted to work in the entertainment field since I was a little kid. But because of where I grew up, I didn't have the chance to be in a drama class in school, or had parents to be behind me in that medium, etc. And so I just did the practical thing of going to college, receiving my Associate's in Criminal Justice, Bachelor's in Business Administration and now working on my MBA which I will be finished with it in June 2018. But it seems like I will never get the chance to do it. AND I have questioned The Lord why does it seem like I'm being taken all around the world, so far left from what my true dream and passion is? And is this something that is meant for me to do? But in saying all of that, I'm getting ready for work this morning here in Columbus, OH and I see a notification for this video of Issa Rae, but it was the title that struck me "Brokenness fuels Creativity." I started not to click on it, because I was just like, "I don't have the time or energy to listen to another story about being persistent and not giving up on your dreams." But I decided to come here and listen anyways. And I will say that hearing her story and the advice that she has given, it is sage wisdom as someone else said below. And its funny because my story is almost identical to hers (its crazy)...its just that she's a female and I'm a male. But I have wanted to do this sense I was a kid as well. And over the last 15 years, I have written ideas for Screenplays, Television scripts, songs that I would like to be able to either sing one day and/or submit for someone else to sing....because writing is cathartic for me. That I learned too from watching Oprah, Tyler Perry and Spike Lee. But, I'm saying all of this to say, is that I applaud her success and hope that she keeps on going and reaches her FULL potential)! And for those of who don't get the title....catch the revelation in it. It's spiritual and two-fold! One, its about being "broke" money wise and making things work. Two, its about being "broken" when you are struggling to make your dream come alive and you pursue it and out of your pain comes your purpose!
Z don’t give up! Keep pushing! God will fulfill whatever HE promised you! Just be open to doing it HIS way!
I hope you were able to start your journey in the entertainment industry.
@@jennubiera6320 Grand Rising, and Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours. And I just wanted to say thank you for your well wishes and encouraging words. I really appreciate it. And unfortunately, no nothing has happened yet. I started taking acting classes and workshops over the past few years since I wrote this. Been posting my original music songwriting, acting, content on CZcams, Facebook, and Instagram since then. But I have t had a breakthrough. It’s okay though. Maybe that’s not meant for me to do. I just pray that whatever it is that I was created to do, that I can do it. And do it well. 💖💯 And may the same be for you too!
@@jpm8399 thank you my Sister. 💖💯 Just as I was telling Jenn below, maybe this area never was meant for me to do. And that’s okay. All I desire to just have my peace of mind at this stage in my life. Because, it’s like me chasing that dream for so long, it’s tiring. And it’s like, all of these other things keep on happening to me, to keep me from doing it. It’s like I’m way over here in left field. Working on jobs, being located in a city & state which has NO opportunities for me in that area none whatsoever. It’s like I’m always in the most obscure places, where it can’t happen for me. But it’s alright. I will be alright. 🙏🏾💖💯
Solid encouragement
He looks like an owl.
Amazing story. Never give up on your dreams. I admire people who realize their purpose and or passion early on in life and stick with it. My favorite part is how she was able to recognize that others influence over her ideas was a hindrance and adjusted. Way to go Issa Rae!
I love her natural hair styles. Love her show.
The glow up man! Imma miss Insecure, but I know Issa has so much more in store for us.
I know what she is saying is more important than appearance, but she looks stunning here. In my opinion.
I give it up to you, you are very brilliant.
Brilliance in creativity at its best! I just started watching this show and I love it!
This is heartfelt ❤️! There Is so much creativity in brokenness…creativity creates a balance for most! Thank you Issa 🦋🎯
She said "broke-ness", as in money. The title is bit misleading but great interview..Love Issa
agreed. super misleading but good nonetheless!
I know I was thinking of something totally different than money. I love the way Roland interviews people.
Fawziyyah Isa you are exactly right. I thought the same thing!
Exactly. Not the topic I expected. lol
Right. Misleading. Good but title misleading af. Lol
She's so smart and great.
I love this woman!!! I genuinely and honestly think she is so inspirational!
BROKENness (heartbreak)
BROKEness (lack of money) fuels creativity... either way works but i thought she had a struggle that inspired her works, lack of money we deal with everyday thats
why we are so creative (food, hair, clothes, etc)
💖Issa is my new Mara Brock Akil
"Broke-ness" not broken-ness. Huge difference.
AliciaFiasco thank you. I came here for the "brokenness" title smh.....
Agreed
Love this beautiful, grounded and talented woman.
The title should have been hyphenated to say "broke-ness" instead of "brokenness". I was thinking this was about mental health
Right. Lol! I was so confused.
Corey Morton yep. Me too.
lol , I definitely thought it was about to be about a state where she was struggling mentally and/or spiritually
This is great. Just change the title to "Brokeness." I was hyped to hear about "brokenness" as fuel, but this was still valuable to hear 🙏🏿
She is flawless :)
She is so beautiful and strong a women like this can take a man to another level
ummm... yes to beautiful & strong.
Her 1st priority is to herself, since this is a man's world (like James Brown sang).
You,...... take *yourself* to another level. *Start* by looking at *the man in the mirror* .
Why? Because, you males (most) come across a woman like this & you'll do everything, in countless attempts, to bring *her* down.
Cee Bee Damn you 😠 huuu...Her #1 should be herself but if you love a women like this and she truly loves you it could be something special thats all..BESIDES strong women like her wouldnt let a bum take her down
He interrupting her several times, and I could tell that she was a bit annoyed. But she's a class act and kept it movin'. Also, did you catch that little dig? I did. He was quiet for a moment there.
YES! It was so annoying, huge pet peeve when someone confuses and interview for a conversation on camera.. 2 very different things. He tried to match her funny instead of just letting her shine!
What an incredible person Issa Rae is. Thank you for your words.
Ever since she said this i have really been using this advice !
I'm gonna meet Issa & Shonda one day. It's out there, now let the intersections begin!
HOLY CRAP! the interview is amazing! but Roland, i stumbled on you and damn man! you are an awesome interviewer...
This is so encouraging. Thanks😊
I love Issa I was definitely one of those people like this is me lol when I watched ABG
I just love her!
Hmmmm......
Soooo Inspiring.....
I hope to be an encouraging grandma like that. I hope he realizes that that was a little insensitive calling the copyright form cheap. Some Mother's sometimes don't have the extra few dollars to spend on things that don't take care of the necessities. Grandma believed in her dream and you know that because she invested in her first.
Wow!!!! i needed to hear this today!!! to reaffirm what i already knew. thanks girl!!!!!
I gotta watch ABG again, loved that series
A beautiful black woman. Talent, beauty, creativity she has it all.
Network across -i love it!
Okay but they couldn't get the dog to stop barking at 3:45 ? lol!
Claiming Issa and I being in the same social circle and having each others phone numbers one day
The title is incredibly misleading. Being broke is very different from being broken.
Lola Marie It's slang
Chicken skin sandwich #lit
I Googled both words; brokenness & brokenness had the same definition. Aedin
Alpha women
She speed talks.
She says BROKE-NESS not BROKENNESS
Before even watching the video, I knew y’all got the title wrong lol - “Brokeness!” Not Brokenness, sooo different
This was awesome BUTTTT I hate when the person interviewing takes over and cuts the person being interviewed off... Do a vlog if you want to tell your story - no one came here to hear you Roland....
💜💜💜💜💜
Who EVVVVAH did her makeup... I'm ready to give up my god for her to put some of that magic to my face!
Home Of The Good Burger😅
lol @ 0:47 the lady on the right -with the shades on at a meeting- doesn't look too passionate or hungry!
Roland Martin lol!!
do you mean brokeness?
👌🏽👌🏽
So why correct broke-ness to brokenness???
y'all hear dogs? @3:28
Roland's hair line should be cut from the clip. Go to your nearest Lids store bro.
brokenness or brokeness? two different things you know
Broke-ness NOT brokenness.
this host or w/e need to work on NOT INTERRUPTING Issa Rae
You look sketch Roland.
Brokeness? Her dad is a Nigerian doctor who funded some of her projects. Wtf. False advertising. Not that she didn't struggle to make it happen, but "brokeness" is a lie.
Black Mariner wow jealous much her family is middle class and dont have connections to the entertainment industry. And she hasnt lived with her parents since before college. So whats you point. Theres no correlation between a doctor ans working in Hollywood as a writer. Her webseries she paid for props and worked with her friends. And they were not paid. Plus her mother is African American so I still dont see you point. Most of her fans and people who supported her webseries back in 2010 are African American. But keep on hating shes going be succeful regardless of what you think. Im proud of all the children of immigrants who are pursuing their dreams in America, Canada, Europe and the UK.
You and Black Mariner sound so foolish... growing up as a Black woman and noticing that your "blackness" is not validated or approved anywhere is not a struggle? And she trashes African-American men and women? Have you seen the way that the media showcases Black lives, not just African-American but Africans, Caribbean and Afro-Latino/a? She showcases Black people for what we are, humans trying to be ourselves while navigating our ways through life trying to define success, relationships, self love and acceptance and Black life. She showcases our humor without being "ratchet", but by being herself. We finally have a woman that represents and shows that Black women are awkward af too for different reasons. Black people are more than "thugs", people from the "ghetto" with no back story because that's just how "we were born and/born into." Issa Rae is a pioneer and a revolutionary. Finally, a BLACK WOMAN that showcases the different narratives of blackness! ISSA, YOU ARE A GODDESS AND BEYOND AN INSPIRATION!
Not hating. Issa is doing the damn thing. Young and beautiful, but brokeness is stretching the truth she said herself that she received financial help for her projects. What difference does my opinion make, yall gonna Stan for her regardless if I'm stating something she said herself.
What do you mean by you?? I'm defending Issa Rare because she's talented and creative writer. lol I'm tired of people projecting their insecurities onto her and just plain hating!! She's not trying writer about a monolithic black experience... she's writing about some black characters from her imagination as well as some experiences that the other writers have had, seen, heard about or imagined. That's one reflection of some black americans not the entire group. Just like Atlanta, can reflect a different narrative, and Blackish, reflects something else. There needs to be variety because AFrican Americans from what I've seen from watching TV, Movies, talking to friends onlines and from my cousin who is of carribbean parentage like me but grew up in America.... your not a monolith so you don't need expect one show to relate to everyone!! It's a TV show not reality!! Just like one book will not relate to every AFrican American persons life experience. It may be relatable to 10 people or to 20 or to 1000 people. Many people watch shows about experiences/lives they have never lived. That's why people read books and watch TV to hear a different narrative or life experience outside of their own, or something they can relate to.
I never said she trashed African Americans because she doesn't lol. She writes them as human beings like any other TV show. AA are messy, courageous, loveable, brave, intelligent, mean, kind, warm, cold and everything in between just like every other ethnic group on the planet. There are diff kinds of AA and that reflects true humanity.
