    I just love this conversation about "brokenness" fueling creativity. As I listen after just filming with three lamps, under the dining room chandelier lights and next to the kitchen for even more light. Couldn't wait to get that wig off my head, because even though I look cute, I'm not a wig wearer. Eyeliner smudged, got to pack up my new microphone and headset and put away all the handmade props. I started not to write this, but I "listened" to this interview with here TWICE. (Yesterday I was in a depressed mood. Because I have wanted to work in the entertainment field since I was a little kid. But because of where I grew up, I didn't have the chance to be in a drama class in school, or had parents to be behind me in that medium, etc. And so I just did the practical thing of going to college, receiving my Associate's in Criminal Justice, Bachelor's in Business Administration and now working on my MBA which I will be finished with it in June 2018. But it seems like I will never get the chance to do it. AND I have questioned The Lord why does it seem like I'm being taken all around the world, so far left from what my true dream and passion is? And is this something that is meant for me to do? But in saying all of that, I'm getting ready for work this morning here in Columbus, OH and I see a notification for this video of Issa Rae, but it was the title that struck me "Brokenness fuels Creativity." I started not to click on it, because I was just like, "I don't have the time or energy to listen to another story about being persistent and not giving up on your dreams." But I decided to come here and listen anyways. And I will say that hearing her story and the advice that she has given, it is sage wisdom as someone else said below. And its funny because my story is almost identical to hers (its crazy)...its just that she's a female and I'm a male. But I have wanted to do this sense I was a kid as well. And over the last 15 years, I have written ideas for Screenplays, Television scripts, songs that I would like to be able to either sing one day and/or submit for someone else to sing....because writing is cathartic for me. That I learned too from watching Oprah, Tyler Perry and Spike Lee. But, I'm saying all of this to say, is that I applaud her success and hope that she keeps on going and reaches her FULL potential)! And for those of who don't get the title....catch the revelation in it. It's spiritual and two-fold! One, its about being "broke" money wise and making things work. Two, its about being "broken" when you are struggling to make your dream come alive and you pursue it and out of your pain comes your purpose!

All I desire to just have my peace of mind at this stage in my life. Because, it’s like me chasing that dream for so long, it’s tiring. And it’s like, all of these other things keep on happening to me, to keep me from doing it. It’s like I’m way over here in left field. Working on jobs, being located in a city & state which has NO opportunities for me in that area none whatsoever. It’s like I’m always in the most obscure places, where it can’t happen for me. Black Mariner wow jealous much her family is middle class and dont have connections to the entertainment industry. And she hasnt lived with her parents since before college. So whats you point. Theres no correlation between a doctor ans working in Hollywood as a writer. Her webseries she paid for props and worked with her friends. And they were not paid. Plus her mother is African American so I still dont see you point. Most of her fans and people who supported her webseries back in 2010 are African American. But keep on hating shes going be succeful regardless of what you think. Im proud of all the children of immigrants who are pursuing their dreams in America, Canada, Europe and the UK.

      You and Black Mariner sound so foolish... growing up as a Black woman and noticing that your "blackness" is not validated or approved anywhere is not a struggle? And she trashes African-American men and women? Have you seen the way that the media showcases Black lives, not just African-American but Africans, Caribbean and Afro-Latino/a? She showcases Black people for what we are, humans trying to be ourselves while navigating our ways through life trying to define success, relationships, self love and acceptance and Black life. She showcases our humor without being "ratchet", but by being herself. We finally have a woman that represents and shows that Black women are awkward af too for different reasons. Black people are more than "thugs", people from the "ghetto" with no back story because that's just how "we were born and/born into." Issa Rae is a pioneer and a revolutionary. Finally, a BLACK WOMAN that showcases the different narratives of blackness! ISSA, YOU ARE A GODDESS AND BEYOND AN INSPIRATION!

    • @Bonitaymorena
      @Bonitaymorena Před 7 lety +9

      What do you mean by you?? I'm defending Issa Rare because she's talented and creative writer. lol I'm tired of people projecting their insecurities onto her and just plain hating!! She's not trying writer about a monolithic black experience... she's writing about some black characters from her imagination as well as some experiences that the other writers have had, seen, heard about or imagined. That's one reflection of some black americans not the entire group. Just like Atlanta, can reflect a different narrative, and Blackish, reflects something else. There needs to be variety because AFrican Americans from what I've seen from watching TV, Movies, talking to friends onlines and from my cousin who is of carribbean parentage like me but grew up in America.... your not a monolith so you don't need expect one show to relate to everyone!! It's a TV show not reality!! Just like one book will not relate to every AFrican American persons life experience. It may be relatable to 10 people or to 20 or to 1000 people. Many people watch shows about experiences/lives they have never lived. That's why people read books and watch TV to hear a different narrative or life experience outside of their own, or something they can relate to.

    • @Bonitaymorena
      @Bonitaymorena Před 7 lety +3

      I never said she trashed African Americans because she doesn't lol. She writes them as human beings like any other TV show. AA are messy, courageous, loveable, brave, intelligent, mean, kind, warm, cold and everything in between just like every other ethnic group on the planet. There are diff kinds of AA and that reflects true humanity.
