    Man this was AMBITIOUS. But man, it still turned out GREAT. I'm super proud of how this little thing turned out and am excited to do more modelling on the channel.
    I've uploaded some high-res photos of her here:

    I like your idea of a 'true' style, but have to confess I also like the trench design. Still, a fine project and good to see it all in On30!

    It’s funny because some of the trench locomotives did end up in civilian use on American soil. There’s the two that ran trains on a private estate (Davenport 5240 & 5241) and atleast one of the elusive and unique Vulcan 2-6-2pts went to the lost river railroad! Of course none looked quite like these as the Davenport ones were rebuilt to tender engines and the lost river ones were otherwise unmodified for the most part but I honestly really like your interpretation of a “true” American style on your model!

    She looks like a nice, hard-working engine that would be thought of fondly on the little freight railroad she would work on! It's always fun to see people have fun with model railroading. Keep up the great content SteR!

    Great Loco steR! Hope you continue to grow as a channel and have a great time doing this On30 Project and sharing it with us along the way! I hope you have a wonderful journey forwards in life (hopefully sticking with trains) through the channel among other things. Love the vids.

    I was just about to start writing, "How much of a radius does that loco need?" And you said nine inches. Nine inches!? I'm planning an ON30 layout on a 3 foot wide base. I've gotta have one of these!

    • @Storage_Unit
      @Storage_Unit  Pƙed měsĂcem

      Yeah! Nine inches! It's kinda insane. Apparently you can get them down to 8.5" radius if you swap out the pilot truck, as apparently once the curves get too sharp the wheels actually clip into the pistons.
      You can see our test on 9" radius here: czcams.com/video/fXZuaWjstRw/video.htmlsi=mkjwmYnJX8YWKqRE&t=173

      @@Storage_Unit Don't need 8.5, but thanks for that. My layout design will be on a 3 foot wide base, so 12 to 15 inches will do it. Id rather not go less than 12. Thanks a lot. I've already gone over to Bachmanns site to price them. The price for one of these is reasonable. Will be doing this.

      @PoochAndBoo No problem!
      12 inches is a great minimum radius for smaller layouts; basically all Bachmann rolling stock can handle that, but nothing sharper. Their 36' passenger cars do look a little silly on such sharp corners, but they're perfectly functional!
      I don't remember if I mentioned this in this video - I probably did, but it's worth mentioning just to be on the safe side - but Bachmann's own prices are... a bit extortionate at times. Trainworld has them for $150 USD (with sound, of course), while Bachmann's own website has them listed for $470.
      www.trainworld.com/bachmann-29502-usa-5091-2-6-2t-baldwin-class-10-trench-loco-w-dcc-sound-bachmann-29502.html
      ...man, that's such a good price that I may need to find an excuse to make another Snickerdoodle...

      @@Storage_Unit Yeah, thats actually the price I sasw, so it must not have been the Bachmann site. I went several places to look for it. Trainworld maybe.

    If you do want to try and keep your hands out of the way maybe you could try an overhead camera? Not sure if it would help but might as well try ig

    The one problem with the Backmann Trench loco is the Gauge; WWI Trench locos were 600mm (2 ft approx) NOT 2'6" ( 762mm).
    For a proper WWI representation, a regauging to 12.7mm ( 1/2")is required in 1/48 scale.
    Is this possible with the Bachman existing chassis, or is a new scratch built Chassis required???.
    Many of these locos were sent to Colonial Sugar and mining company lines in either 2ft (610mm) gauge Or 600mm.
    Those repatriated to USA gauge unknown?

    As most trench loco's worked suicidally close to the ww1 front line and erman troops could bot and hear and smell the steam loco' and if they had lamps SEE the locos and their trains which would ALWAYS result in an artilliery barrage , so bells and lamps ere big no no's :)

      There are quite a few period films of trench railways on utube both allied and German :)
      As well as at least one of happy German squaddies who had just (about an hour before!) taken an allied supply dump with lot and lots of food and cigarettes which they hadn't seen for a good long time, hence the exstatic looks on their faces..not too worry as a lot bof it was recaptured within the week

    A bit long winded fo me but nice end results. Makes me want to pick up a trench engine myself.
