      I'm America, we call them Living Room and Family Rooms. My grandmother had a much smaller house than me. She had one front living room. Then she had a dining room attached to a small kitchen. On the second floor she had three bedrooms and one bathroom. She did have a finished basement which was a bar / rumpus room with a nice entry to a tiny backyard.
      My house has a living room and a family room when opposite sides. Between them is a kitchen and a dining room along with the staircase to the second floor. I also build a patio enclosure extension that gave me a sunroom. My second floor has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. My basement is only partially finished with a bedroom and a bathroom. The rest is utilities and storage.

    I can somewhat see the charm, but these houses,to some American eyes, look so not up to housing code, as we call it in America. Uneven walls, the roof looks iffy, the walls are weird, the decor is dreadful, the rooms seem dark and dank. Everything is a mishmash. The rooms have low ceilings and seem cramped. The kitchen is a horror. I guess the HISTORY of the place means more to many English. For approximately 700,000 dollars I could get several pristine green acres, 4/5 bedrooms, maybe a nice pool, in a gated community! But, okay.....

    • @thehungrygoldfish
      @thehungrygoldfish Před rokem +5

      You do understand that a lot of these houses were built over 100 years ago, right? They're not going to come with acres of land, and several bedrooms and a pool and gates. And not to mention, cough, but the US is a lot larger than the UK is. No duh the houses are going to be larger and more modern.

    • @TheGinnygoose18

      Thank goodness. As an American, I think our homes are so boring...any new build looks like a house version of a hotel room. We don't have character or history to our buildings, unless it's mid-century or further back. We rip all the character out and put up drywall, I just don't get it. UK's homes can be so interesting and full of imagination. Sometimes more is just more.
