So.. fun facts for those who aren’t aware or who are only just coming across the song :) ;
A lot of the beautiful women you’re seeing throughout the video were actually asked to be in the video from a club night called big girls paradise, which at the time was hugely popular & mostly based in London ! I used to frequent the nights with friends & met so many amazing men & women, some of the best memories of my life were had there - a surreal experience to walk into a club & automatically feel accepted, not get sneered at, have abuse thrown at you etc. You could be completely yourself with no judgements from anyone!
‘The butterfly lounge’ was about club nights such as the big girls paradise nights too! :)
Sadly the nights no longer exist but they cemented a time in history that won’t ever be repeated. Just amazing! This song will always be a bit special to me x

I have so much to tell you all, I had an unforgettable experience that I want to share with you!
This experience was life changing for me and I hope for all of you!
Monique, Jenn and I met with MIKA at his Record release party Monday night in Hollywood !
On my way in I met Danny Bonaduce and yes he is built and hot! There was a huge line outside and we were sent in early as VIP’s! There I met Perez Hilton and we talked for quite a while. I am a huge fan; he was very easy to talk with and told me how he loved our song, “Big Girl”! Then in walked Andy Dick who approached Perez and we all chatted. The press hit us and cameras were flashing like crazy! At this point I was thinking OMG this is crazy! Here I am standing with 2 stars and all I can see are flashes lol
MIKA came out and performed 4 songs and I have to tell you all he sounds excellent live! I have been to tons of concerts and have been let down many times by live performances but not this night! After the show the crowd was sent outside I was able to meet with MIKA. I went to shake his hand and found that instead we were hugging.
He grabbed both of my shoulders and said to me, “I wrote you this song; Big Girl (you are beautiful) this is your song!”
We talked about the BBC special I had done years ago with Victoria Wood. He told me how he was watching the show and we both agreed that in the beginning of the show it seemed as though they were talking about how being overweight was something to be ashamed of. Then he said to me when they got to the part where The Butterfly Lounge was featured how the show took a turn and sent a message to everyone saying, “Love yourself for who you are!” He told me he was so inspired that he started writing our song right then! At this point the media was all over MIKA and I, you never would believe how blinded one could get from so many flashes. It was a moment I will never forget; He gave me tons of signed posters and a few full CD’s for the nightclub. He told me he is there for us! I have to say MIKA has a huge heart and it as genuine as they come! He is absolutely adorable, just an FYI for those of you who want too know. He told me that as soon as his schedule opens up that he will be personally visiting our nightclub! (Looks like it will be sometime in April) He also asked for our logo and is having shirts printed out and will be wearing them very soon!!!
I then spoke with his mother who said to me; “Thank you for creating such a wonderful nightclub and how pleased she was that MIKA was able to write such a beautiful song!” We took a few photos together and she told me that her and MIKA will be visiting our nightclub very soon. There is a picture of us on the Butterfly Lounge website.
All in all it was an AWESOME night for us all, as well as The Size Acceptance Community!
Now there is a very positive song out there BIG GIRLS YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! (As stated in the song)
His new record; “Life in Cartoon Motion” is now available in the US and he is hitting the circuit via television and radio!

I'm an extremely skinny person, and its due to an eating disorder, but listening to this always gives me some positivity about how I shouldn't be ashamed of the body I have. Currently I'm on a starchy diet that is helping a little bit at a time.

When you do that you are putting down someone who already struggles from mental health issues (which is why the body is neglected in the first place) you cannot loose the weight until you learn to love and be comfortable with who you are first. If you loose the weight while depressed or follow a fad diet or try to impress other people you will gain it all back. And for all the wrong reasons. To make true lifestyle changes you have to love yourself first. That's the true message behind these things. Be comfortable with who you are. Then you will start to take care of yourself and work on yourself. If you don't love yourself you will neglect yourself and self harm like weight gain. Also as a note. If you watch videos on here with geneticists there actually is a fat gene. It's real. Just how some people are naturally skinny and struggle to gain weight eating whatever they want. There is the opposite. It doesn't mean they cannot loose weight but it means they have to work even harder than the average person to not only loose but also keep it off. Also society profits off people who are obese - companies can push and sell products and doctors can push and sell exspensive surgeries and pills. Money is made off of big people so that's why.

He was celebrating body positivity before it was even a thing. but it was a real tough time when this song came out. a lot of girls were comparing themselves to models on magazines but then mika came out with this song and saved a lot of lives. No matter how you look or how much you weigh you are perfect and never change that. i was 8 years old when this came out and it helped me a lot to celebrate my body.

Children, and especially little girls, are flooded with messages about how thin is good and fat is bad, that to be big is the worst thing possible (there’s a terrifying number of *fourth graders* who are on diets...). So to see this plus-sized mother lifting her daughter into the air is an act of defiance. It’s her saying “I’m beautiful and big, and you’re beautiful too, and NO ONE can tell you otherwise.” That’s a lesson everyone should hear, and it’s perfectly captured in that shot. Big girls, you are beautiful! :D
I love this song, I don't believe it encourages people to be fat or unhealthy, I think it simply encourages a better body image to a group of people who may struggle with it. And if you love yourself, your more likely treat your body better anyways, alot of people become "fat" because of a lack body self love, so calling them fat or unhealthy may be true, but your certainly not doing anything to help their situation. Girl you are beautiful x
