They didn't screw it up because it's still there and they can choose not to watch the live action. Disney made the live action for the new generation of kids who probably wouldn't like the boring old version where Ariel's singing is plain and flavourless.

Halle is the best thing ever happen to Disney. She opened the door for POC actors and actress to gain more exposure in acting, and wider character in movie business.

What I like most about her is that she's so sweet and nice. All the interviews I saw her in, and the promotional materials, she's the nicest and sweetest girl. And in the movie, I thought she was a great Ariel. She's no Jodi Benson, but I did appreciate the fact that she did not copy her, and made her own version.

The people who hate on the movie haven't even watched it. I went to the cinema yesterday I had a smile the entire time. It's such a superior version over the original. Her playing Ariel was the right call. I'm such a fan of EVERYONE who worked on the movie. Lots of love Halle! 💛

@@eclergt9926 To me this story is much more complete than the original. It extends for 50 more minutes and it never feels like there's wasted screen time. There are new songs which are very magical and charming. The acting for many characters like Ursula, Scuttle, Sebastian, and others is just really well made and it's fun to watch. Ariel is the most controversial one, but for me Halle simply has that charm, not only because of her beautiful voice, but her expressions capture Ariel's curiosity, kindness and passion. Some say the visuals for the under-the-sea scenes are very dull looking, but for me the trailers don't do them justice. The backgrounds are very full of life and color; obviously not to the extend of being completely saturated like in the original film, as it's a live action and it's meant to look more "realistic", same with Ariel's hair color. To me it's just a very successful remake.
I feel like Halle and Aaliyah would have definitely collaborated a lot. Their souls are just so amazing.
