I have had the same problem with both the easterner and the flying Scotsman, the later being disastrous as the front bogey fell off as I picked the Scotsman up and trod on it completely destroying it.
I also spoke to Hornby, but I can not remember whom, he sent a new one to myself and all's well, so thankyou Hornby and this employee.

This is very helpful for when I get an A4.

I'd send the whole thing back tbh. Nothing worth £200 should break let alone on first use. It's why I'm not buying any tt120 as proven Hornby will get lots wrong on this first phase rollout.

Hi. I have both The Easterner and The Scotsman (not opened yet) and my A4 had a piece (the guard rail you referred to?) of the front bogie loose in the box. I contacted Hornby via email asking for an image as to where and how to refit the missing piece. I did receive an image showing the piece and where it needs to go (with the advice to glue it back on with super glue). The image also shows another piece that fits over the loose piece, which I haven't noticed; is this the spring that you are missing? Is the spring a coil spring?

Yea it’s a silver coil spring but it fits in between the bogie and the body.

Do you have a first name you could give us? So many YTers seem to worry and want to stay anonymous; I'm not sure why. We don't need full name, address, phone number and inside leg measurement, just a first name to make things a little more personal - this *is* supposed to be a community!

My name? Yes of course, it’s Dave. I’ve possibly mentioned it in a few videos but admittedly not in many. I’m shy in reality 😂

Whilst it's not a moan video, it's still a poor show that a product brought to market has bits held in place by tape that fails (requiring black tack to secure it) and more importantly the front bogies fall of. Now granted you being a modeller it's not real issue, but as these are marketed as "train sets" it would be really disappointing for someone who has just paid out £200 for a set as a present to his young son only to find the loco falls to bits shortly after... This shouldn't be happening, and from your comments it would seem you are not alone... Poor QC Hornby !!

Too right Malcolm, considering Hornbys apparent target market is parents wishing to shell out on a £200 train set for their child to keep under the bed ... tell me if you see anyone like that fits that description lol 🤣

Not the first either. Sam's Trains also found the piece of black tape under the front bogie and removed it. Wonder if his has falled off \ lost the spring?
