Did some googling, turns out it isn't (so they say) but is by the same writer, which is pretty cool! That lead me to Wikipedia which lead me to discover that I'm an idiot and somehow managed to hear the similarity between Dead Reckoning and Requiem For A Dream, but didn't hear the similarities between RfaD and Requiem for a Tower when watching the LotR trilogy so many times.
