    So I replaced my suspension rods and after a few months the banging came back. I tried different methods to secure the tub, but the banging kept happening. After watching this video I see there are springs that can be put on the rods. I never had those on my kenmore machine I've looked to see if they broke off and nothing was there. I made my own suspension rod supports. I used some black tie down straps with the silver hooks that flatbed truckers use. What I did was put one on the back right side, I hooked it to the tub post then looped it twice around the rod ran it along side of the tub, and hooked to a opening on the machine in the front. On the left front side I did the same thing, but hooked it to a rear opening. The machine doesn't bang violently anymore, and it is more secure than it was before. I breathed new life in this 8 years old machine.

    Great video. Almost gave up trying to compress the springs from the bottom when I realized my washer had slots on the bottom attachment to make removal easy.
    I put the washer upright and fed the spring rod through the slot, hooked the end through a tie-wrap noose, and easily pulled it into place.
    Worked great!

    My Machine is only Five years old and this came up. it is a Kenmore 500 Series.
    And Didn't I get Lucky... The Lower Spring perches are molded into the side of the outer tub and the entire operation can be done from the Top. Much easier than Laying it on it's Back.
    I wish I had Known that before I moved the other appliances to make a workspace!!
    Either way, this video is super helpful and, if nothing else, it relieved the anxiety of tacking it myself!
    Thank You

    I have a Roper machine I need to replace these. I watched three videos on how to do the replacement.. this was by far the best and most thorough! In fact, none of the other videos suggested hanging on the rods on the crosspiece, which makes the replacement much easier/smoother when turning machine on its side to get under clothes drum. Great help!

    Thank you. Reminder to everyone, especially if working by yourself, make sure you clip the new rods on the frame before lifting the washer upright (as a "friend" did). The whole tub, surround and motor will be sitting on the ground with the rods 6 inches from where you need them. I......I mean my friend, was very peeved with himself.

    Excellent video! I have one suggestion. When lifting each rod to install the new suspension balls, I found I couldn't grip the rod tight enough and it would slip down before I could get the ball on with my other hand. Using a rubber glove on the hand holding up the rod allowed enough grip to get the ball on.

    • @BenjaminRay
      @BenjaminRay Před 3 měsíci

      I had the same issue. Seemed like they wouldn't slip at first, but by the time your hand gets greasy or sweaty, you really can't grip them without a glove or plyers.

    Found this video. My 17yo Whirlpool washer drum was hitting the sides when starting spin cycle and bouncing around. Called the appliance repair places and all were between $250 to $300 to fix (was told it would be 2 hours labor, $85 house call and $80 for parts). Washer cost $340 back in 2005. I ordered Whirlpool suspension rod kit and paid around $40. Took less than an hour and the old machine is working like new. No noise or problems with out of balance spin.

    I use an old support rod and put the end with the hook in from the top and hook it to the new rod and pull it up. It’s easier to pull the new rod up and set it in the ball.

      Looks like a bad edit. They used the same video clip to attach the top of the washer that was from before laying it down on its back. For example, he did install the rear right ball/bearing, then said to do the rear left. But then they cut to the scene where rear rods are just hooked onto the frame, then he closed the lid.

    doing this repair second time in 3 months same machine. 1st time bought from ebay. Advertiser had the words lifetime warranty on his ad. 3 months later he wouldn't honor it. put complaint in with ebay and it seems to be getting nowhere. I give them one more week and get in touch with them again. But the idea of hanging all 4 pieces on crosspiece seems a lot easier than moving the washer up and down 4 times. This time bought Whirlpool factory cert parts.

    Hi! I love your videos, they are always very helpful. How will I know how many springs need replaced? My washer only had springs on the back 2 rods, so in not sure if those were the only 2 as this is a used washer. Would it hurt to put springs on all 4? Any info is greatly appreciated! Thank you

  • @MrTelejohn
    @MrTelejohn Před rokem

    these rods are an engineering weakness- the rods are fine & the springs are fine. The little sponges inside the cap with grease are the problem. There needs to be some friction tension on the rods as the tub is moving but the little sponges wear out and become loose quickly, which allows the tub to bounce like the tazmanian devil. I filled my caps with silicone caulk- not sure how long this fix will last before rods slip through too easily.
