  • Just how easy is it to become a professional streamer? - that lucky breed of gamer who can fund lavish lifestyles, just by live-streaming their gameplay online. Julia Hardy gives average gamer Matt 30 days to make it as a pro.
With the help of friends Gross Gore, and Mark Turpin from Yogscast, will Matt be able to pay his rent at the end of the month? Or is getting paid to play just a fantasy?
The full version of this episode of The Gaming Show is available on BBC iPlayer in the UK, with new episodes every month - www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...
Radio 1's Gaming Expert Julia Hardy can be heard on Radio 1 every weekend with Dev - Listen at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dev

The only reason why he made it in 30 days is because he got a huge amount of help and worked for the BBC as soon as someone posts that it was a challenge from the BBC the it all took off really. u do this as a normal streamer and ur looking at 6 months to a year of solid streaming just to gain any type of momentum. u also have to be playing the right game at the right time.

Agreed, not an accurate representation. This is a 5 minute version of a 26 minute long piece of a year long project. Feel free to pop in the stream to ask questions. A lot of hard work went into this to get off the ground. Do you think the BBC put out an advert or something for this? I handed a different idea on a plate to make something more realistic over 6-12 months. They turned around and said you have 30 days and changed the format. I chose this over nothing

He is just trying to accommodate his current viewing subs. I would suggest that he would change his topic (Call of Duty) he isnt going no where with it. Maybe one day more people that see his channel wont think its garbage just by looking at the titles or thumbnails (kinda like what you are doing.) I hope he sees this. Sorry to disagree with your opinion. What you say could really get to his feelings and we dont want him to make a wrong decision but a right one by changing his content and evolve. Best of Luck Mike! What a very misleading and horrendous example of the current streaming climate. This video had him working alongside Syndicate, YOGCAST, and Gross Gore. Normal streamers without this exposure would be lucky to get 50 followers within a month. After doing this for 5 years I can say that if the guy thinks this was hard, then the effort required to do this without the help of those at the top would probably make him consider quitting. Streaming is more about who you know nowadays on top of trying to bring something unique to the table. This guy got a lot of help that normal streamers simply would not get.

    • @gingeylad4538

100% correct there man. a normie cant possibly make partnership unless they have a big name made up within the gaming community or get hosts and shoutouts or help from bigger streamers. the guy is your average joe on gameplay. man even people who are challenger on league can barely pull in 10 viewers.
it takes a long time, a lot of dedication..and you gotta perfect the craft to even get anywhere. I myself have been on/off streaming for 1 year and a half (I'm a full time chef) and ive managed to get 850 followers & 20 subs and that's with working full-time and no one knowing who I am.

Take it from a streamer. Has nothing to do for how long you been streaming. And if you are lucky and start making enough money to pay rent you're one out of ten thousand. To get anywhere and streaming you don't just hit start streaming, you need to do marketing post on websites, know other streamers, get hosts, and get word-of-mouth from other channels. This video gives false hope. If you really want to make it on Twitch you actually have to work for it and not be lazy it's not just sitting at a PC and hoping people show up. Good luck I've been streaming for 7 years and I'm a partnered streamer it took me 3 years to get partnered even marketing myself and I'm still not where I want to be so I'm going to keep working hard good luck to everybody out there I hope this comment helped.

Yes, it took 1 year of streaming youtube & twitch before I saw my first donation. Almost finished with my second year and I'm averaging maybe 6 or 7 viewers per stream on twitch and get up to 30 viewers on youtube. Sometimes I get lucky and a bigger streamer does a raid and its an awesome feeling and surprise when they do. I now end all of my streams with a raid on small streamers because I like to pay it forward knowing how I feel when it happens to me. Hahaha, I think the most subs on twitch I've had in one month is 4 seeing him at halfway thru the month with as many as he did was like :-O

      @wallerdog Před 5 lety +2

@NorthSouthGaming a raid is when a larger channel on Twitch types in the command /raid NorthSouthGaming and everyone that is watching their Twitch stream can follow them into your live stream. So, all of a sudden you've got 500 people watching instead of 5 and its a good opportunity to pick up some more followers and if you are doing real well maybe even a subscriber. It can happen on CZcams, as well, but the raider has to do more work as YT does not have an automatic way to raid so they have to tell everyone to follow them in and type #wallerdograid when they go into someone's live YT stream. But it's not something that you can make happen. You can improve your chances by being active in bigger streamers live streams just don't be actively advertising you are a streamer. If they ask, tell them but don't be pushy or they'll cut you off. :-)

Also you didn't tell his schedule, how much did he stream per day. If you do this as a full time job and are lucky you still probably wouldn't have gotten a viewership over 15.
Also how the hell was there after 15 days already an option that he could get subscribers? doesn't that need a twitch partnership of some kind in the first place?

The thing that I feel is well represented is the fact that when it comes to streaming, It's who you know and who you play with and the connections you build that grows with popularity. Sometimes in life you have to make your own luck. This whole idea was originally mine, I lost my Mum and Dad within a year of each other and this really put things into perspective. Having worked as a camera assistant, runner and eventually spending 4 years learning the ropes in post production I decided a change of pace was needed. I killed 2 birds with one stone and set out on making a documentary about attempting to stream for a living. This idea went over 2 years before it got any ground, all the contacts that featured in this I had reached out to and confirmed them to be involved before any production company backed this. Last minute the guys that made this gave me an ultimatum of 'this needs to be done in 30 days or no documentary'. Imagine how gutted I was, this changed the whole natural feel of what I set out to do. You can't make/grow a fucking community in 30 days.
I played the hand I was dealt and learnt so much about streaming and making content. I know the grind is real and sometimes I'm down to 2-3 people in the chat sometimes but I truly don't care because I'm playing games and having fun. Chatting to amazing people I get to meet along the way is a a huge added bonus. I've streamed everyday this year (currently Day 320/365) and making my own content this time to show something real and not this BS.

@Glan FM I am so sorry to hear about your parents. I had a similar thing happen with mine. I lost both of my parents to suicide when I was younger. I am trying to build up a community of smaller twitch streamers now, and hope to create a platform for myself to talk more about my past, and try to help other people struggling with mental illness. It is just quite difficult on Twitch. I hope one day that my hard work will pay off, and I can help other struggling people with their issues. Once again, I am really sorry to hear about your parents. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

His equipment in general (streamdeck, fully enabled overlay with emotes and all) takes a real streamer who starts off from 0 about a year unless he has a huge load of money on his hands in the first place to put into that kind of stuff.
Btw the "donations" he recieved were most likely not from his community but from the big streamers communities who shouted him out and multistreamed with him.
All in all this is not just misleading its straight up lying.
Because "he" didn't make it in 30 days.
It was his billion dollar company and other huge streamers who "made him become" that in 30 days.

Sometimes in life you have to make your own luck.
This whole idea was originally mine, I lost my Mum and Dad within a year of each other and this really put things into perspective. Having worked in post production for nearly 11 years learning how programmes are put together. I decided to use these skills i'd learnt and make my own programme!
This idea took over 2 years before it got any ground (when Radio One said they'd like to help me make the programme), all the contacts that featured in this I had already reached out to and confirmed them to be involved before the BBC backed this.
Last minute the BBC changed my original timescale of doing this over 6-12 months to just 30 days!!!
I was given an ultimatum: 'this needs to be done in 30 days or no documentary will be made'. Imagine how gutted I was, this changed the whole natural feel of what I set out to do. You can't make/grow a community and get partnered in 30 days.
So why did you go ahead with this?:
I played the hand I was dealt and learnt so much about streaming and making a documentary.
I know the grind is real and sometimes I'm down to 2-3 people in the chat but I truly don't care because I'm playing games and having fun. Chatting to amazing people I get to meet along the way is a a huge added bonus.
If this video makes you believe you can do this too in 30 days then please learn that there are no quick ways to do this.
In 2018 I streamed everyday over 430 broadcasts.
I'm currently in the process of making my own short film/documentary about what i learnt from all this.
    Come say Hi!

This is very true. There is no shortcut to becoming someone famous. You need to have a passion to reach goals. It's part of the journey to where you want to get to. If you enjoy it then do it for fun, not for money or to become famous. Life is like climbing a mountain- you may think that it's impossible or you may struggle along the way but eventually you will reach the peak of the mountain and overlook the progress you have made. This is just a brief overview of what it's like. It is meant to take a long time to get there and I agree that it is not fair to fit this into such a short time period. It doesn't completely show people how much commitment is put into these kinds of things. Also, I appreciate the documentary man and I'm sorry for the loss.

As a CZcams video content creator and a twitch streamer, I can tell you now that this shit is NOT this easy. This man got shout out after shout out, support from big end streamers, live streamed with well known streamers, was 100% focused on streaming only (no person in their right mind can and will EVER try to do a 30 day challenge or else they're homeless). This man had 1 job and that was to get his stream going. Now he does deserve the recognition but the video deserves proper notice too.
To all my other streamers and video creators I want you to know I'm rooting for you. Obtaining an audience, keeping an audience and making content and constantly giving yourself to that audience is not an easy task. It's very difficult to stay consistant in any task but if you do you may just eventually get there.

Gl doing it on ur own, Streaming a game that a shit ton of other people are streaming and being super low down on the list, or streaming to 0 viewers for like a good month etc, it's so much about what game you play etc, and being entertaining at that one moment a single viewer stops by, it's damn near impossible to be entertaining the entire time nobody is there because there isnt any banter, nobody to talk to etc. Oh and if you aren't consistent, or have to step away from it for a month or so once you managed to get a solid 10 consistent viewers, they just disappear when you come back. Rough life. Gl to everyone trying to make it out there.

There is really no different what so ever. You turn on your stream, you do not look at viewer count AT ALL. You play as you would normaly do, and stuff will come. Having a program open is exactly the same thing as you do without it. People get to crancked up that there is no people watching that they lose motivation. But there is no point losing motivation because all you do is playing anyway.

Just to go to sleep, get 6 hours, work another nine, stream another 5, work on stream another hour, and repeat. Or did this guy have ALL the work done for him? You can't even be partnered with twitch to get subscribers until you stream enough to get enough concurrent viewers and followers. So either BBC payed twitch or worked a deal with them to allow him to partner immediately, it took far longer then 30 days just to get that. Also the biggest improvement he saw was when he streamed with someone big. Good luck getting that interview as a random person without the BBC title.
