    Interesting in Canada if an athlete meets the Olympic standard they don't need to compete in the trials. The US could've used those rules in 2000 when Maurice Green and Michael Johnson both tore their hamstrings in their races and didn't even finish, let alone place.

      LOL Well... Their flag isn't flown often during international competitions, like the actual Olympics. So they want it flown here. Same as giving winners flowers and the giant plane ticket. #PompAndCircumstance

    In good conditions, you cannot get close to an individual 200m medal in Paris running slower than 19.70. A 20.09 probably won’t get you into the final. So many very fast guys from the US, Jamaica and more coming out of Africa these days. Canada’s best chances for a medal are in the 4x100.

      Well de Grasse did run 19.76 last year but I don’t think he is running that this year even if he runs that he is not getting a medal because of Noah Lyle’s, tebogo, Kenny, and even knighton doesn’t have a good chance to get a medal unless tebogo or Kenny is not on form

    • @eds464
      @eds464 Před měsícem +8

      he has the standard already it's will be up to the athletics Canada to confirm the decision (for the 200m).
      He secured his 100 by winning the day before. He wanted to focus on his 100 starts and decided to rely on his having set the standard in the 200m last year .

    • @runwithyaz
      @runwithyaz Před měsícem +3

      In the USA you must come too three but in some countries like Canada, a selection committee can use their discretion to put athletes on the team if they have the Olympic standard or a past history of competing at a “high” level

    • @alistarmanley607
      @alistarmanley607 Před měsícem

      @@alistarmanley607 you just decided to respond with less than accurate info despite people having already responded with more accurate info.
      It's not because he's the defending champion, that's not how that works. Last year at the worlds in Eugene he ran 19.75. He decided to ask for an exemption and because he made that standard (for Canada) he was exempt from having to run the 200m trials. So he qualified for the 200m that way.
      He wanted to focus more on his 100 leading up to Paris.

    • @boringlifeofateen
      @boringlifeofateen Před měsícem +8

      I think Degrasse was the only one that had the olympic standard so he didn't have to run to make the olympics for the 200m. Obviously, this is for countries that don't have as much elite athletes. There's too many elite American athletes that can run olympic standards so they have to do a top 3 go to olympics/worlds system otherwise all the lanes would be filled by Americans.
