      @joermnyc Před 4 lety +3

      Michael Himes flats have to be on those, round strings pop out of the bridge saddles (though that looks like a different bridge than the original one on the Jazzmaster and Jaguar).

    • @michaelthimes
      @michaelthimes Před 4 lety +10

      @@joermnyc I disagree. Flats do not have to be on jazzmasters or jaguars and thousands of players enjoy roundwound strings on their offsets - Elvis costello, Thurston Moore, J Mascis, Kevin Shields and Kurt cobain to name a few. Of course the Mastery bridge was invented to overcome the issue you describe which is more likely to happen with aggressive playing and before it, a mustang bridge was the common retrofit. For what it's worth - the bridge in question looks like tune-o-matic style bridge which looks to be stock on that particular model. Maybe it's a roller style - hard to tell.

Her guitar playing is phenomenal and makes a so perfect ensemble with her voice. In a time of too clean and sweet music, I love the tension, the dynamic of her harmonies and riffs. The best discovery for ages in the music I listen to. Maybe could we have her in concert in south France after the Covid time ? That would be my 2021 wish...

    I think the first Madison Cunningham track I heard was In From Japan... and while listening to that I just fell in love with her music... and somehow I really felt like she'd also like the same music I like... and now seeing her mention artists like Fiona Apple, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Paul Simon etc confirms it... and that feels very heartwarming for me. I think her beautiful voice and her love for dissonant chords..
    her guitar-driven sound, are the primary reasons why I'm very drawn to her music. it makes so much more sense now... now that I know that she's inspired by artists who have that certain zazazoo... that seemingly unexplainable insight into the harmony that can be found even in contradictions.

    Thank you so much for this episode. I must admit I’d never heard of Madison but what an incredible player, loved listening to her and her thoughts on playing and songwriting. Her music is incredible too!

    You are always ahead, Josh. I just found out about her - and I've been missing out. This fresh and exciting. Gordon Mote is how I got my lights turned on!! Madison is a breathe of fresh air in every way.

    If young women look to up to Madison the world would be a better place

      Fireproof sucks, specially if you are agnostic like Madison and me. She might have been brought up by a pastor but she thankfully didnt believe it, or she wouldnt have been inspired by Radiohead who the Church think comes from satan.

      @@majortom4543 Hi Major, I'm very curious, on what specific factual information are you concluding Madison is agnostic? A couple of years ago, Madison came to (visited) my (Calvary Chapel) church in Petaluma, CA, played 3 songs for both services, one with my pastor, and spoke along with our pastor, (who knew her father if I recall) gave everyone her CD (probably about 300 CD's), and was an absolute joy. She certainly did not appear to be anywhere near agnostic that day. She (her message and music) was more or less what was presented that day for each our two services.

      @@davidaustin6271 David, being agnostic does not mean you are in war with christians. She may have thought that was an opportunity to broaden her audience. I heard one or 2 comments of her mentioning agnosticism in one of her interviews but i cant recall which one because i saw many one after the other that day.

    she just gets it. dissonance in playing. Radiohead, Buckley.... Jazzmasters, Vibrato pedals... I'm so happy to have found her music. she's a bad-ass. killer job everyone at JHS. Nick's drumming on the last song is in the pocket. Madison, you rule!

    I got into her music through Josh's Record Time recommendation. Absolutely amazing songwriting. Really cool to see Madison on the show with Josh, and to see her talk about her process and gear. "Song In My Head" is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time

    Somehow Bluesy but definitely not Blues. I can hear just a little Paul Simon in the writing. I like how her vocals kind of dance over the dark swirling music underneath.
    Obviously I was impressed. Solo singer songwriter girls aren't my usual tea but I feel like I could pick up her record and really enjoy it.
    Great video! Thanks

    The jams sound like something you'd hear in a roadhouse in a David Lynch film. Kudos.
