  • A look at the arcade games that were released in 1985.
Another banner year for the arcade world. Atari dropped their 4 player masterpiece Gauntlet; Sega gave us the cabinet monster Hang-On and Space Harrier and Konami introduced the world to the Gradius (Nemesis) series, as well as Rusn'n Attack/Green Beret!
Interestingly, Konami also produced not 1, but two 1 vs 1 fighting games - Yie Ar Kung Fu and Galactic Warriors...several years before Capcom released their seminal Street Fighter series. Konami was ahead of the curve, and it is a shame that they didn't continue with it...

Several interesting games in this video. Gauntlet definitely the one I played the most, with my high school friends back in the arcades... good times. Otherwise, I still prefer some of the great games from earlier in the 80s ... and then the shmups that started coming out in the late 80s! Mid 80s feels like an experimental, exploring-the-medium period in the arcade.

The range of quality is quite huge. Sega and a couple other publishers were very ahead at that time.

Quite an interesting Patreon Steamkey this time -- it's RUSTLER (GRAND THEFT HORSE), a tongue-in-cheek, top-down view, action game. You steal horses and get into all kinds of trouble LOL. Cheers, Gary!

I played through that one recently. It's fun if not a little buggy at times. They have a spiritual sequel coming out soon I think.
