I remember when I first heard this quote it opened up so many doors in my mind as a concept and actually helped shape my way of thinking. A few of my best friends started out as someone I didn't like at first or didn't like me.

That’s kind of what happens in the digital graphic novel, he knocks Raiden out and when he’s about to put him down for good Snake shows up and kills him with ease. A much worse ending to be honest.

I dont think the boss knew she had the fake legacy. I think ocelot beat everyone to the underground vault and replaced the real legacy with a fake legacy.
My thought is the Boss let Snake win. It was her mission to die and she carried it out.

I've pondered this question before and came to similar conclusions. Speaking from the viewpoint of an obsessive hardcore nearly lifelong Metal Gesr fan I'd say this is just about spot on. 🙂👍

But I guess since the US destroyed her name and legacy she wasn't as valuable for marketing.
Also, even though she was the best Soldier of her time, she was a *she,* and it was the 1960s.
@@rocketpunchgo1 I don't think her gender was a factor. She was so legendary that the US saw her as a hero. She was Big Boss before Big Boss. Mother of the special forces. Besides that no one in universe even cares.

But again, it was the 60s, and even if you were the best of the best and female or not White, you were rarely selected for things like that. It's just how America was at the time (and still is too a slightly lesser degree). Related: Google "The Mercury 13."
Well, remember that Zero was the mastermind behind the les enfant terrible project, he started it in the 70s so the boss was already dead and if I recall correctly the field where she was fighting snake was gonna be bombarded by MiGs after 10 mins so whatever DNA she mightve left got blown away so zero wasnt able to clone her
@@sergioramirez6093 that's a good point. Given the time period cloning wasn't on the table. Harvesting her DNA for future use wouldn't have even been considered. When it was possible they had to defeat to the next best thing , John.
I asked this question to a mgs streamer recently and got ignored 😂Nice to see I'm not some outlier thinking about this stuff as I think its an interesting thought experiment to see where they end up. Everyone will have a different answer. Thanks for the video!

wth does that even mean?? Sure, in the context of the Cold War, it means no Cold War. But beyond that, it seems like an impossibility. Even communism is basically State-dictated capitalism. Feudalism was proto-capitalism. Socialism is capitalism with a focus on wellfare. Etc.
So what does 'no capitalism' mean, exactly? Was she wise, or just naive?
I might be projecting, but could it not be a system not run on the premise of 'competition'? As in winners and losers, good guys bad guys, opposing forces in any way. No more binaries used to put us up against eachother. A kind of one-ness. I think The Boss was neither completely wise nor naive; but a utopist. The nitty gritty politics was not here forte, but she might have believed that if we break the paradigm of seeing others as competition, we could start building a society that is more humane.
The whole mgs 'saga' is predicated on getting her will wrong, interpreting it in different ways. What she really thought (beyond being a fictional character) is the big conundrum.
Capitalism and communism are also two extremes. Balance is key.
Yeah that's interesting. She's a fictional character written by Kojima, who if I'm not mistaken, believes the world should have no borders which is a very far left idea.
@@MegaSolidninja Yes it is radical if taken literally, like Zero does. But at heart I believe it is a plea to see eachothers not as enemies, but as fellow humans. Left and right, East and west. It is easy to control a population when you give them a scapegoat. For example Americans love the idea of communism being the opposite of capitalism, which locks them off from nuances that would provide for better social services and more humane conditions: Free healthcare, free education etc. Now how to do these without being totalitarian... I doubt The Boss had the answers, but she saw one globe in the cold void of space, and the epiphany that we should not let language divide us.

Competition in itself isn't bad. It's hardwire into us. That's why sports are popular everywhere.
And capitalism is not an extreme. Globalized capitalism with an emphasis on finances (aka virtual value) is the extreme. Monopolies of big corporations is the extreme.
And that's really the only way I can think of to achieve 'no competition': a global gov with gov-owned companies that excercise monopolies. That's sounds way worse than our very flawed world, because someone has to run that global gov (8 billion people voting policies is unfeasable, unless you get rid of the competition of culture), and someone has to run those global corporations.
And who decides what culture gets imposed above others? Does western culture override arab culture? Does hindu culture override african culture? What religion does this globalized world follow, or do we impose atheism on everyone?
That's just gonna create way more conflicts that it's gonna solve.
@@MegaSolidninja exactly. Sounds like 'one world, one government'. Ie, a global dictatorship/technocratic bureaucracy. Reminds me of Asimov's Gaia, which I liked when I read it as a teenager, but when I read it again as an adult horrified me.
Bowie fan here. Miller and Big Boss liked "Diamond Dogs" because it was a song about punks raging against the status quo, only in it for themselves.
The Boss would have liked "Heroes," a national anthem for humanity.
Finally got to watch this video and I must say I really enjoyed it and liked the ideas of the world with the boss still alive.
