Happy memories of Southport - what a surprise to click on a link from Southport GB and see that the thumbnail picture was our newsagents, right at the end of the film. Our dog Sheba was very popular with the customers and used to love lying on the pavement in the sun outside. We had the shop for 10 years, selling it in 1982 when my parents retired. I live down south now but visit Southport from time to time and although the shop has changed hands many times since those days, it's always nice to see that the Cleveland cafe (or Eric's as we knew it, as seen in a couple of photos in this film just before 'ours') is still very much as it was.
One of the pics show where I live now but as a kid 77 to 81 was my era for kicking about Southport and these pics sum up the atmosphere of a Sunday perfectly. A train fare, a morning in the baths and a ride or two in the Fair for less than a quid. It looked a bit dilapidated back then and I fear it's going the same way in 2019.
It is so sad that Sefton let it get like that after it being such a great place to live in through the sixties. And now it is even worse Skelmersdale on sea. Everything that made it unique demolished.
Any chance of you sending me a copy of the picture of me (or the back of me lol) in the photo booth, I remember seeing you with your camera as I came out, Thanks.. Im on Facebook Lynda Warnock.

Don't you just love people who like to show the bad side? So negative. Southport has changed and had £m's spent on a new pier, Marine Way Bridge, sea wall, Ocean Plaza on Marine Drive, refurbished most of the main streets and the Monument, All Lord Street gardens well maintained, King's Gardens completely upgraded including the footbridge over the Marin Lake and the Atkinson/library had a £9m spent on it. Thank you so much to the Liberal Democrats.

I think thats me in the photo booth with the denim bib and brace on with the buggy outside :) fab photos :)
It was me and the photographer kindly sent me a copy of the picture, my daughter Diane (born in 1976) wanted her photo taken 💕
These photo's are excellent!
Superb.
Wow! being on holiday with you looks fun! It doesn't quite match the Southport I remember 77 to 81. Thanks for posting though!
Happy memories. Interesting to see so many businesses now sadly gone. The sea front has vastly improved though.
Sad to think of it now my dad always told me story's about his time at south port
I remember that bollard being wonky for years and years 😂 4:32
Oh my. How did we manage without mobile phones . People were reading newspapers! Wow

walking slowly over wet sands...
There is no denying it but back then our little town was a rundown dump!
Despite everything it is so much better now!
Dave can you publish your email address here please? I can't find it on your site anywhere. Thanks
Ready for the SUMMER ?
Southport hasn't changed much, despite the sea wall being built the coastal road will be shut this weekend due to the high tide !!!

i knew a lad who was 30 and lived here off the money he charged old ladies for sex. his name was noel himmit
My god Southport looked a rat hole then. Horrible and grim.
Thankfully the place as had some money spent on it and today is much nicer.
+John W The pictures look grim but Southport was certainly nicer then than it is now

Sorry Pal, the photos may be arty but they don't do my happy memories of Southport any justice. Morrissey might have cheered up if he'd visited.
It's lovely!!!!?
