NOTLD 1990 does indeed have a reason to exist. Two, in fact: first, due to the absence of a copyright notice, the creators of the 1968 film didn’t see any money from its distribution and for similar reasons, Romero was worried another company was going to do a remake. Second, Tom Savini was originally supposed to create the special effects for the original film but was drafted into Vietnam before production started.
Both issues were rectified with the remake, plus we got a sexy, badass Babs in the beautiful Patricia Tallman as a bonus.

It also gives us better actors, characters and music. It took what worked from the original and mostly fixed what didn't. A catatonic character might be somewhat realistic but it isn't interesting for the story or audience, at least not in the way they executed it. I respect the original more than I enjoy watching it.

    • @WaverBoy
      @WaverBoy Před 2 měsíci +2

It’s a decent remake but still not a patch on the original, in which nothing needed to be fixed by a remake.

The Giant Claw is a lot of fun. You have a giant Dr. Seuss bird from outer space attacking the planet with solid performances from Jeff Morrow and Mara Corday making the best of a ridiculous plot. 3.5 out of 5 for delightful cheese.

The Giant Claw is my favorite monster movie of all time. The bird is ridiculous, the things Jeff Morrow says are ridiculous, and everyone plays it straight. I used to have the bird's caw as my notification sound on my phone.
The movie is so bad it's great and super fun. I understand Morrow was at the screening in his hometown and he, himself, had not seen the bird. Once it showed up the audience burst into laughter and Morrow snuck out of the building. 😂❤

if you love 80s movie for their atmosphere and direction, please check out "cold in july" from 2014. it stars michael c hall and don johnson. it takes place in the 80s but the best part is that it actually looks like it was filmed in the 80s. the synth score and direction is on point. the plot is: Hall kills a home invader, then finds out later that the police are covering something up. its a thriller with a crazy twist you don't see coming.

I can tell you of some obscure movies I ran into when I started going to the drive in movies on a regular basis. The formula for the drive on was kung fu movie first .. second was a disturbing movie and third was the main feature. Most of the disturbing movies were reminiscent of motel hell. 1- Manhunter (William Peterson thriller)
2- Pinocchio's Revenge (really cheesy, but I loved it)
    3-Class of 1984
4-The Cynic, The Rat and The Fist

o I realize that The Wicker Man is May Day horror, but I like May Day more simply because I saw that awesome film again!
x Watched Dr. Terror's House of Horror, great film!
o I really liked the premise of the Tarot Card reader giving them visions of their future.
o The one about the live plant reminded me of Little Shop of Horrors (1986), the second film I watched on the day of the Total Eclipse (because Audrey II appeared on the Total Eclipse on the film).
o Peter Cushing really nails the archetype of his characters in a way that they are perfect for Halloween costumes, that tarot reader is a winner!
x I added Breakdown, Signs, The Iceman Cometh, and Buried Alive to my list June Watchlist.
o I have seen Signs before, but I want to see it again with the perspective of Farmland terror.

Vacation of Terror sounds like Annabelle. Nothing happens, lol. I LOVE the Night of the Living Dead remake. It was needed because some of those older movies make women so weak and useless. As a female, I can tell you that it is indeed unreasonable for someone who is an adult to be catatonic for hours. Especially when your own safety is in question. We needed a remake to show a strong capable woman who is much more true to real life. I recommend rewatching it with this in mind. I will sometimes sell a movie if the female character is that weak. I do like the original Night of the Living Dead. It has a great lead but the remake is so much more fun for me.
The Boogens is a favorite for me. I like the characters and I really love the weird monster.

I would like to attest to The Giant Claw being so bad it's good as the monster has to be one of the cheesiest things I've ever seen but... I don't know what it is but there's something fun about it - it was more enjoyable than From Hell it Came with the Monster tree. As for the other two, Zombies of Mora Tau is, I think a 6/10, not horrible but kind of slow. Creature with the Atom Brain is my favourite of the bunch and I think it would be a great movie if the little girl who plays Richard Denning's daughter wasn't so damn annoying. The final fight between the bad guy and Richard Denning reminded me of the old time serials, which makes sense as Katzman's specialty was making low-budget genre films and serials. I consider the Atom Brain to be the hidden gem of the bunch and, when you get around to watching it (it's barely over an hour), I hope you'll enjoy it too. 😊
