    A few flashes, and anything to bounce light off of, can be plenty of lighting with little cost. You just need to know to experiment. Natural light is always the lowest cost light source. Make the best of what you have. Good equipment doesn't make you more competent.
    If you are feeling artistic, then sometimes harsh lighting is fine. It all depends on what you intend to do. Of course you should learn the rules before you break them.
