Is Walking Dead: The Ride really that bad?

- Walking Dead: The Ride is a new-ish coaster for 2018 and is the retheme of X at Thorpe Park. The question is, is it really as bad as some say? Find out my opinion in this review of Thorpe Park's newest addition.

I think it’s a good re theme. Thorpe have always been trying to improve it last year. When I first went on it, I found it okay but not that scary. When I went on it at Fright Nights it was way better, the van horn was made louder, they added a really loud thump noise in the pre show. and they improved the break run before exit station.

I find the walking dead ride just fine. But honestly I feel rethemes aren't to bad I just feel people should power their expectations for them an they'd enjoy it more.
I honestly think the upward brake run is really good, the train jolting and going back the forward again, the spotlight, etc.
Yeah. Definitely the best part of the ride itself.
This is why I miss x we could actually rave in the queue and on the coaster
I did this on an off peak day so literally 1 other person was in the pre-show and ride with me. Terrifying. If you're on your own in those dark corridors with actors it's 100% scarier so I'd say only go on it if you're in a group with people you know lol

DigitalDan the ride needs a redo we’re they add anamatronics to the que line Thorpe Park thinks this should be a ride for kids but it should be a ride for the aldults they should do something like deren Browns ghost train

I think it's definitely better than the second version of X: No Way Out, but it won't beat when X: No Way Out was in it's peak, when it was backwards like it was supposed to be, themed around being trapped in a computer virus and the theming didn't yet disappear.
I went to Thorpe for the first time in several years on Tues (28th), I wasn't aware that they had a walking dead ride. As we couldn't go on Derren Brown's ghost train we went on the walking dead ride instead and I did thoroughly enjoy it, except for walking down the really dark corridors, so dark that I walked into the person in front me, and then couldn't see when they'd moved on. The coaster section is really fun, especially the stop by the generator and the failed restarts, that was done very well, (not scary) but the canteen noises were too much for me (also wanna point out there were no live actors on the ride when we went). I don't remember X being open on previous visits, never got the chance to ride it.
So... as someone whose experienced a few of the haunted houses Universal did for TWD, the theming here is so.... so empty? I get it, a coaster is different from a house, but still. They had the rights to TWD and didn’t even use that dumbass theme music? Lmfao
They use the music in the queue I believe. But yeah the theming on the ride itself isn't the greatest whatsoever
Am I the only one who feels like in the future we will all be under attack in a zombie apocalypse or a swarm? Maybe even all of us will be trapped in Jigsaw’s games? Woah Harry Potter! Seeing the future, are we? 🤯🤔😂 Oh yeah and I think the ride is great!
Better than X disco but still lame, RIP original X that was unique. They need to do a proper horror themed ride, its a pitch black building for god sake!
Also Wickerman pre show is ok, but once you seen it once its lost all value, eventually they Might stop that. Ride is amazing though.
I thought this was decent enough, good theming, decent ride on the track and I definitely agree that the brake run effect half-way through the ride was cool. It's still so weird that they redesigned X to be too scary for kids but tame for adults and teens. It seems that the park just wanted attention through making something there be based off of a popular IP. Now that their next ride is not IP based perhaps they're not depending on that anymore.
Still though, I'm disappointed that I never got to ride the original version since I was too young and my parents were always bringing me to Legoland Windsor

First I think they need to destroy a lot of the walk for the ride. This will make the ride a lot bigger and adds more room to work with.
Second I would like to keep the zombies but have it as a sequel to the ride "duel" from Alton Towers. Basically what they did to "nemesis inferno". We haven't had a shooter ride that I can remember of at Thorp park.
This will attract more people to the ride and give families a ride to go on. There are not many rides that children can go on. So something like this is long enough and satisfying for the people. I would have the ride set indoors but it's like a city where you have to shoot the lights on the zombies to get points.
We could have little references to zombie films like Shawn of the dead where one of the buildings is the Winchester. After all, it is a city so have a little fun with it.
Last but not least have not just zombies but massive spiders and massive monster plants that are holding zombies in the air. You can have steam blowing in some places and makes the ride more interactive. These zombies and that will be animatronic like the ones in "duel" and "tomb blaster". Just go mad with the endless possibilities with the ride.
An improvement on the weird rave theme but honestly I think the original X:/ No Way Out theme was the best. I get that the whole computer malfunction theme is dated now but I actually think it was really cool in a late 90s kind of Matrix way. I wish they had of just refurbished and improved the original theme.
I agree. No Way Out triumphs over the other two incarnations.
i went on with my friend and a group of girls my rage i didn’t know and we all clung onto eachother and sprinted down the corridor away from the actors together. absolutely terrifying
They should add the scare actors to that long walk to the station.
I’ve been on it 3-4 times but only had actors in it once so I believe if they had actors in it for every run through it would be personally one of my top 5

Walking dead is definitely better than X and arguably the best iteration of it. I've got a bit of a soft spot for it.
there wasn’t any actors when i went on it so it wasn’t scary at all. i was so scared and it was for nothing. it does have potential and hopefully it gets scarier
The retheme just seemed like a cashgrab in trying to just use the title
I went on it on fright nights and it was my first time it wasn’t the best but it was pretty good the scare actors were amazing it was a good ride prefer it to x

It just uses the same track as X:\ No Way Out. Not really being into The Walking Dead, I preferred X:\ No Way Out. It’s nothing overly special, just a change in decor and name.

to everybody which has been on this ride. the original in 1996 is the best and in dark and backwards is 10x better than boring ride which is now in 2022
This used to be x no way out first I used to go on this a lot early 1999,in horrible darkness when you had the lifts/ the turning tunnel where your brain could get disoriented and the trains went backwards in pitch black, robots out of the wall, jet sprayers, screaming effects and overhead system camera. I think they turned on the lights because some got pretty scared and the trains go forward because half of many riders including myself would come off the ride pale from emotional sickness. Glad those days are over when things came and were no longer used and the x became music popular with a train that goes forwards and Shame its gone and replaced but I like it glad it has a new theme to it though about time.
When I went on it, they didn't have the actors.
Looking at this video does make me understand why the ride was seen as bad and I get that but overall this year they’ve had more jumpscares like when the part your jogging back and forth in the break there are zombies on metal fences bashing and bashing and one actual actor came out of nowhere and scared us from behind until we went,
An improvement I want for the ride is change that guy on the prequel to the ride to Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) as an exclusive thing to hype fans up that they know who they’re listening to (no offence to the other guy)
Another improvement is at the prequel of the ride remake the style of the corridors in a way into a hospital to represent the beginning of the show and the last part of the ride for its corridors as it usually is, this would make fans and non fans experience a story of the show and see what it would feel like in an actual zombie apocalypse
Also I think they should extend the ride itself (two improvements) as in take it into another room and the people are stuck there and out of nowhere a Negan lookalike comes out of nowhere with other people of his men aswell as Lucile (the bat) re enact the whole plot like the end of season 6 but in a way that Rick and Negan are already at war with each other, the other is into another dark room but lights up to reveal zombies all around you bashing on the fences of the side and the lights are flickering mad, this will definitely increase tension and it was shown on the actual advert of the ride where the girl was stuck in the moment although these two imrpovements can occur without the ride as in experience it when off it (break)
Sorry if this is long I’m just saying what’s good about it and what needs improving in my opinion

Went on it today (August 2019) and I quite enjoyed it tbf. It is by far, not the best ride at the park. It is also, not the best it could be. But yeah, it was fun 🧟♂️ The end was good (zombie in the top bit with air cannon is back)

It shouldn't do, it's mainly in the dark so shouldn't be too disorientating 👍🏻

Its sick i didnt think there was actors in there and there is the second time i went in and i was by myself coz i ran and my friends were way behind me and i pushed the zombie actors lol

I am skipping the pre show the next time we don’t need to keep seeing the pre show over and over I tried to ask the staff to let me just go through but it was no but he did tell me the door is not locked though so I will skip it the next time I do like the ride except for the pre show I am doing wickerman soon in June and I will skip that pre show straight away as I just want to get on the ride the actors where not there the day I went in the canteena scene and disappointed
I will admit the preshows are very repetitive after riding more than once, but seeing them for the first time really does build an atmosphere and story for the ride in my opinion 👍

my mates didn’t tell me there was live actions so when we got inside the lady was like oh yeah there’s live actors now fuck off and enjoy the ride so i was kinda like ahgdhshdhshdhdh what... had a mini panic attack but it’s all cool i’ll just never trust them again :))

Good ride, when I went on it though the ride operators were doing karaoke over the ride speakers. Kinda ruined the theme to be honest

I don't see why such a bad review. I think the rollercoaster is good and the walk from the rollercoaster to the exit is fun because you have the actors. I think you were completely scared that's why you put such negative comment right? :)
