    What is a compact binocular? The name couldn’t describe it any better - it is small and light, which makes it a great companion for longer tours where every surplus of weight is best avoided. That's why we have created a special COMPACT BINOCULARS buying guide in which we divided our selection of binoculars into 4 price classes, pointing out general features and our top picks.

    The Swarovski pocket binoculars (I use 10x25) are exceptional and outshine all the midprice pocket binos and can be a good alternative to compact binoculars. I prefer them because they are so small and lightweight so that I carry them everywhere whereas larger binos I would often leave at home.
    That said my wife's 10x32 are so good that they are like looking at high definition TV.

    • @fmbga
      @fmbga Před 2 měsíci

      I was kind of wondering why they'd review Zeiss' Victory FL, that came out in 2004. The SF 10x42 wouldn't count as compact anymore (according to their definition) but there are Zeiss SF 8x32 and 10x32 models. I like those! What I bought for myself though was the new SFL 8x40 - no nonsense, super light, compact (about as big as the SF 8x32), almost a grand cheaper than the SFs, but practically as good as the SFs.

    hello, can I know the exact model of GPO Binocular tested (12:11 min.)? I found more compact GPO ED binoculars (GPO ED 8x32, 10x32, 8x42, 10x42). So which exactly one is the winner of the category 3?

    • @OpticsTradeEU
      @OpticsTradeEU  Před 3 lety +1

      All the binoculars tested in this buying guide have a 32 mm objective lens. So as for the GPO binoculars - both 8x32 and 10x32 were the winners in this price class.

The problem is that is impossible to find it in Canada so, I have to order it from Europe without knowing if they are as good or even better than my Nikon 8x30 E2. It would be nice to have you compare both of them. Thank you.

    Although 8x should theoretically add more light in darker light conditions, I discovered that the 10x, by providing more detail, can actually bring about a "brighter" view. For example, using the Vortex Diamondback HD model in both the 8x and 10x, I found myself looking at a bird in the evening shadows of a tree with a white sky backlight (i.e. horrible lighting). With the naked eye, the bird just looked black in color and sparrow-like. From the distance I was viewing, the 8x didn't provide me any more color or enough details on the bird to identify the species, so I was still uncertain of the species, only sparrow-like. Switching immediately to the 10x, however, the blue color of the bird revealed itself, and along with other details the bird could be easily identified: an Indigo Bunting.

    Zdravo Druge! When you say "winner," you are talking about optical quality. You might want to add some other criteria. I have the Zeiss Victory, a superb piece of glass, but I cannot justify taking it south of Bistrica, into Durmitor, or to the Levka Ori, or Aghios Poustis or, Siktra Orospoo, or the wilds of Boukara fil mismis...because THEY ARE TOO VALUABLE, ca. $800 currently on the web. If I faced a storm, a haiduc, a ustace, etc., my trip would become much more expensive. Thus, for Balkan rambles, or even klephtic hot spots like Barcelona, I make do with a much cheaper alternative. Binoculars by Zeiss are for a safer world!

    CLASS 4. Assessment: You made it too light this exercise, SWAROVSKI Companion CL 8x30 (Sw.CL) WINS hands down!. Lets take Carl Zeiss Conquest HD for comparison, 1. Transmission: 88% (SwCL. 90%), 2. Blurring at Edge FOV: at 84% (SwCL. at 92.5%); 3. Distortion: first curved line at 49% (SwCL. at 90%!); 4. Truncated Pupils: Yes (SwCL: No); Eye relief: Draw, 16 mm. The Conquest HD wins only on angle of view: 8º vs. 7.5º. Do your homework guys!!!
