2019 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S Review - Insane

  • I've finally got my hands on this hooligan, so here is my first ride vid of the 2019 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S Review series.
    The Super Adventure S is the more road biased version of the Super Adventure R, with both bikes attempting to topple the mighty BMW R1200GS and R1200GSA from their mantle. It's got a staggering 160bhp produced from its insane V twin engine, with torque that will wrench your arms off at full whack!
    The 2019 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is going to be in my grubby little hands for a few weeks so this is the first ride review vid, with a more long-term run down review coming shortly.
    Hope you enjoy the vid folks, keep SUBSCRIBING, keep SHARING, keep LIKING, and keep letting me know what you think in the COMMENTS section below!

    I'm 6'4 380lbs. Just got a new 2019 Super Adv S on sale. I rode Harleys for years. I was concerned about comfort and ergonomics. Well I love it. I can flat foot it with the seat in low position. The seat is not as bad as I thought. I'll be getting an aftermarket one though. This thing has more power than any Harley I ever had. Surprisingly comfortable. This thing is awesome!

    Own a slightly different version of the Ktm, the 1290 Super Adventure R 2018. Same engine but tuned down just bit from the S version. It's the bomb, and it handles much better then any GS off road. I would go as far as to say it handles great on the street as well. The seat does not get hot! I payed 13,800 for the bike new! Was listed at 18,000. I looked at the GS and they wanted $24,000, didn't even include the panniers? I own a BMW also, the R 1100 S Boxer Cup Replica 2014. It's a sports bike and I do love it, but I love my KTM much more! The bike has also been very reliable.

    Great video. I've owned this bike for about 6 months and it's such a blast (It was either this or the S1000XR). A lot of people have mentioned the heat, maybe I have asbestos legs as it's never been an issue for me. My previous bike was an air-cooled Monster 1100 which would literally melt you in the seat. I just wish it was a little lower as the weight / height combo make it a right handful at low speed (for me anyway). Keep up the good work on the thin blue line, I don't know how you guys keep moral up when dealing with foul criminals everyday (the politicians giving your orders).

      Hi Andy,
      Glad you’ve enjoyed the vid and yeah it’s a great bike, loads of fun.
      Re bus lanes, in London as long as the sign says you can ride in them, then bud lanes are fine. You have to be careful though as some boroughs, luke Lambeth, don’t allow it.
      Cycle lanes? No I don’t ride in them, but I do occasionally go into the cycle box at traffic lights if I know the lights are just away to change etc. Legally you are not supposed to go into them, but in London you just won’t get anywhere unless you take advantage of what a bike offers 😉

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  Před 5 lety

      That’s a possibility, but I think it may also have something to do with tyre choice maybe? I had the Pirelli Scorpion’s on I believe.

    • @nimrod6603
      @nimrod6603 Před 5 lety +1

      I also have the Scorpion trail 2 on it.
      Had it on the 1290 SAR and now on the SAS.
      Maybe fault in the tyres, but most likely the screen.
      I ride in comfort mode all the time
      2 reasons:
      1 KTM themself say it’s the best mode 😄
      2 It increases the damping with increasing speed or when detecting the roadsurface needs more damping. Its not like first gen ESA , where Comfort meant the suspension got out of shape and Sportmode was too hard.
      When you really ride hard on bad surface ( which I never do ofcourse, but I have a friend who does) comfortmode came out on top. 😉👍🏻

      It’s the Pirelli’s. I swapped to Contis and they were miles better. Perfectly stable at 130 on the autobahn with full luggage on. With the OEM tyres I could get the traction control to kick in in 4th in the Dolomites, no such issues with the Contis

    • @nimrod6603

    Had the privilege of test riding the '17 1290 sa for 4hrs (city traffic, hwy & mountain twisties (no off-road)). The bike was phenomenal. The power.....sublime. Decided at that time to go with the '18 1200 gsa as I couldn't get past the elevated engine heat & chain maintenance. Whilst I can truly appreciate some "hot buns" just not my own. Otherwise a spectacular machine. tp1 a spot-on review ✌️✌️

    Took one out yesterday and yes, hot engine. Epic engine and gearbox but in no way way better than my GSA R1200 Triple Black. Too much vibration, plank of a seat and exposed to the elements. No satnav options, KTM missed an opportunity with both Tom Tom and Garmin. Just completed a 3000 mile trip to Italy through 6 countries on my Beemer, the KTM would not have been as enjoyable a ride. Nice post though matey.

      KTM Powerparts seat is cheap and works. I believe you CAN link maps to the TFT. I just clamp my iPhone to the bars, though. Best gearbox I ever rode on 20-some bikes. Vibrates a bit at/over 8000. By then any GS is a speck in your mirror. Just short shift it and lug it down to 2000 RPM's even--smooth as glass. Similarly--I rode YOUR bike for a bit. With wife. SHE was like: BORING. But wife doesn't mind the KTM 3rd gear throttle wheelies either so maybe she is just a wild child. Lucky me. Then there is price. In USA--KTM is about $3000-5000 cheaper.....

    They've got their priorities set. In the US the revenue a town receives by way of ticketing speeders is spent on whatever the township wants. It's a stealth tax and their priorities favor collecting that tax above serving the public. I doubt the police officers enjoy collecting those taxes over stopping crime, but the boss man says go get the cash!

    Bruce I have to totally agree about the perceived syndicalism of policing policies where those who have had their home violated are ignored yet manpower is found to ticket motorists for offences where no one gets hurt.
    The thing that gets me is that good folk like you join the cops to make a difference to folks lives in spite of the risks yet get screwed over by the politicians and brass to take the least cost option to make up the statistics.

    Hi TP
    Whilst riding my Africa Twin Adventure sports last Sunday I stood up to stretch my legs,was stood for about 15 seconds and without noticing I rode passed a Police car sat in a side turning, they immediately followed me and then pulled me over and told me they were going to nick me for firstly dangerous riding firstly, I tried to explain that its not dangerous and that all offroaders use this method as it centralised the weight etc ect they then went on to tell me that no matter what its illegal and told me that I was being reported for driving without due care and attention !!
    I wonder if you could shed some light on this as I didnt think it was illegal to stand up whilst riding, I see many other riders do this especially in our group where we have a few riders who could be described as slightly age impaired

    The KTM speed is not a smidgent faster than the GS, it's night and day faster. I'm surprised that this reviewer didn't even know if it was at the twin or not. I own a KTM 1290 superventure S, and I can tell you it's very refined and it's a lot more motorcycle for the money. I would argue that the LC8 engine is one of the greatest engines ever put into a motorcycle frame. If you want a joyride and a great adventure go with the KTM. You'll get there with comfort and a smile on your face.
