As a Vikings fan I am kind of glad that you put that Baldwin catch on here. It was even better when you consider it was sub 0 temp out and the ball is rock hard. I was at the game and wasn't even mad at it. It was good coverage. Just a great play by Baldwin.

If catch-the-ball-for-you gloves didn't offer advantages we wouldn't see nearly all WRs using them, and presumably every team would sport a bare-hands guy or three. I mean, NFL players go sleeveless in ridiculously cold weather just to show how manly they are, so if the glove advantage were truly trivial, shouldn't they also be going with bare-hands to complete the image of unadulterated masculinity? It's not like gloves are required safety gear, ya know.

Cowboys Terry Glenn once caught a ball in the endzone one handed. He was completely covered and reached around the head of a Saints defender for the catch. Best one hander i've ever seen.

A lot of these are due to the gloves. Some sportswriter did a test with some high school kids. They tried one-handed catches without the gloves and almost completely failed. They tried again with the gloves, and it was like they had suction cups on their palms. Even the old sportswriter caught one.
