- Aztecs lived by a different code and being part of a sacrifice to appease the gods was seen as an honor, but from today's standards, the rituals of the Aztecs are seen as extreme and horrifying! Check out some of the craziest things the Aztecs did that were just part of their daily life.

Imagine being the king who showed up to the temple to watch his daughter get wedded but instead had to witness a priest wearing his daughter's skin as a garment.... thats just savage. (In a really bad way)
Sounds like something from Game of Thrones.

@Darnell Green The Aztecs were at war with the Spaniards.. and it was mostly smallpox that killed them, not Europeans.. do you really think people are inventing the history of ancient civilizations to try and create racism in the modern day..? That literally makes no sense homie
@Darnell Green Dude are you trying to score points off a detail of what I said or educate yourself on a topic you’re clearly lacking info on.
I’m not defending all the actions taken by the Spaniards, not a chance, but you’re actually crazy if you think they made up all the details of child sacrifice and skin wearing rituals to try and perpetuate racism. There are literal carvings on their monuments of human sacrifice. I’m not saying what the Spaniards did was good but I’m also not saying the native Americans (Aztecs) were some peaceful people when they were literally skinning children alive.
Ahh yes the good old times, no cellphone in sight, just people living the moment.
Well.... Some are living
and ripping each other's hearts
And skinning alive some.
Maybe we can make some sacrifices to the Gods again for old times sake.
Hey hey people
Imagine being 9 months pregnant when a full grown man just pops out of you and is like “stand back mother I’ll protect you”
So brave
No matter where you find humans you find brutality... be they Indigenous people, Europeans, African, Arabs, Asians...
Then find me the customary child sacrifices performed in Europe at the time.
@@cloudydied Really, one of the most brutal in the past? How is that? Because of slavery? Let me guess, you're a Muslim Arab. Yet many Muslim and Arab countries still practice slavery to this day, others waiting until the 20th and 21st century to abolish it. Westerners abolished slavery first. So no, America, nor Europe, was ever more brutal than Native Americans, the Middle-East, or nearly any other place for that matter.
@@cloudydied Technically he did cover everyone. He was listing continents. You wanted him to put America specifically on there, which is first a country so that doesn't fit his list, and second everyone in America fits ethnically into one of those continents/peoples he listed
@@pageboundwriters ok I understand now I'm sorry about my limited knowledge, I'm still learning history so I once again am sorry for the points I make, I'd much rather just delete my comments then reply to a valid argument
@@cloudydied Nah it's fine. He kind of jumped on you but you backed up and were very polite :) Gotta respect that
A moment of respect for the narrator for pronouncing the names without any difficulty.
lol but just facts
Actually the pronunciations all are wrong...but for English speaker he doing decent...
Ya, I have to agree with that
Some are definitely off
I appreciate the narrator actually trying to pronounce it correctly. Most wouldn't and would deliberately butch it.
With the amount of sacrifices, its a wonder they never drove themselves to extinction as a society.
@@cranberryeater7459 now there's covid
You also gotta remember how big and powerful the Aztec Empire actually was, when they were fully thriving
@@donttrip9512 Plus the amount of sacrifices is exaggerated by the Spanish friars reporting back to European royalty.
@@didostempest2966
It wasn't so much exaggerated as they caught them during a time of incredibly violent civil war because of how many members of their noble and priest caste had succumbed to the numerous diseases brought, and it wasn't at all uncommon to offer up warriors killed in battle to the gods.
So they mistake what was just ritualistically executing prisoners of war and political enemies as the day to day religious action.
Not that you'll catch me trying to justify ritual human sacrifice, I mean, they were basically every pagan horror story given flesh.
@@cranberryeater7459 They did manage population growth so good, that their land ended up in other nation's hands.
Kinda depressing that people back then treat death and killing like getting a cup of morning coffee.
@Ussy those were wars of man (-_-" ) we just...fight...
Very casual
@Ussy old testicul no? Mkay ima go find some maturity
I was thinking along the same lines tbh. Not exactly a culture of advanced thinking or reasoning, but based out of wearing skins and killing out of superstition. Kinda pathetic actually
Right? But then again this was before science, our ancestors couldn't comprehend why certain things happen and so they create stories to explain
Oneday, somehow, some aztec priest spontaneously thought sacrificing bodies was the solution 😶

The "He then filleted her" got me 💀
Flayed, not fileted
I witnessed this in Apocalypto, that film leaves no stone unturned
That movie is not accurate though. Puts Mayans as Aztecs for example.
Wait, and the Aztecs said the Spanish were savages?
Humans are savages on every scale.
Aztecs had a brutally murderous inquisition and genocided people they colonized? oh no, just the spanish did that. "brutal executions" isnt really a way to judge a society
@@kamerionsmith4551 Spain committed no genocide. That's why most Mexicans are brown and can't grow beards if men. You regurgitate slander against my people. You deserve your heart ripped out. Brits who spread the slander the most are the biggest hypocrites. Just ask any Tasmanian those macro-evolutionist genocidal maniacs called "missing links." My series crushing atheist myths proves that macro-evolution is impossible, and that Darwin wnated all non-Europeans to be "exterminated." They of course hid that information from you when they indoctrinated you.
Wait a min. You heard the aztecs say the Spaniards are savages. 🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
Chill out, if you believe the narrative only people with white skin can do bad things.
Do you remember a time when we used to make human skin suits?
Pepperidge farms remembers.
I hope they make a future “God of War” game set in Mesoamerican mythology.
That would be awesome .
What would be the name of Aztec Kratos?
Probably Cratohualt.
Wayyy better than Norse
Can’t believe he said all those name, it’s amazing
This is some serious psychedelics
I think you nailed it!
I love when I wake up and start watching a video about skinning people
Hearing about the Mesoamerican’s taste for brutality sort of puts into context the level of brutality that still exists there today.

They actually found the land that became Tenochtitlán because Huitzilopochtli told the Aztecs to abandon their land and look around for where an eagle was eating a snake on a cactus. You left out the snake. it’s on the Mexican flag.

Please more Aztec stories!!!
Bc of this myth, the Aztecs would literally do this. They would arrange a marriage with the daughter of another triable chieftain. Then on the wedding night, the Aztecs would sacrifice her. Now I don’t remember if they flayed her and wore her skin but yeah this practice started several wars.
I love your videos. Keep up all the great work.👍🏻
It’s interesting that the Aztecs talk about the destruction of the world 5 times before, an our own current paradigm also proves our planet’s precious 5 mass is extinctions millions and billions of years ago
Greatest channel on CZcams.
Hi love your videos
I literally learned about this in my history class yesterday, and low and behold, this video was uploaded.
Compliments for your pronunciation. Very well done.
I love the channel
Good video
this sounds so comforting
The pyramid shown is Maya, not Aztec. A whole different civilization and age.
Yeah that’s the Pyramid of Kukulcan in Chichen Itza
Not that it matters, as they even show a light bulb at some point, but the eagle shown is a bald eagle, the symbol of the USA. The Mexican Eagle is a golden eagle.
@@jmchez well it's like showing the Parthenon in a video about the Roman Empire.
@@AdictTrance Good point. That would, actually, really upset me. LOL!
Also the term Aztecs is wrong, when the spaniards came people would talk about the legendary land called Aztlán where their god told them to settle in and so they started calling them Aztecs (probably also due to a translation error) when in reality the Aztecs actually called themselves Mexicas (as well as others from rivalling tribes)
Fun fact: when Elliot Spencer was being transformed into Pinhead, his human soul fused with that of Xipe Totec. I guess it’s fitting that Xipe was around during the “Flaying of Men” period.

Imagine being a Spaniard walking in on these sacrifices 😰🥴
love it
Woah man
I wish it was known that allot of those sacrifices were volunteers.
i dont know if she was a volunteer.... But yes the human sacrifice is largely misrepresented, europeans did it as well, back in the good ol days... but often POW were used as "convenient" sacrifices that is just a fact.
This one can be a little hard to follow at times, I think the narrator needs to pause more and clarify especially for aztec names
How about a story of Quetzalcoatl? I did hear her name but didn't know much about it.
Please do on hari singh nalwar (India's Hercules ) ,great gama and king porus
That is horrifying, showing up to a wedding and seeing the priest wearing the skin, Gross.

"there were good times

there were bad times"

"there were heart times

Brutality of topic beside...what's the track name of the peaceful background music?
It's interesting about music being played and people being enchanted and taken to falling off a cliff.
It reminds me of the children's tale:- The Pied Piper of Hamlet.
The cartels are still following most of their aztecs traditions.

That whole year of chilling, idk being a sacrifice doesnt seem that bad
Why do I feel like people are gonna simp for the guy in the thumbnail?
The Aztecs actually called themselves Mexica. They are also still alive today in Mexico in the millions and call themselves Nahuatl people.
The name of the Aztecs came from the Nahuatl language. The Empire was known as the Aztec Empire, the people the Mexica.

Can you guys do a video on Private Investigators
So where can I find this image.
Talking about the thumbnail.
What book is this source from ?
Hmm intresting
And to think back then that was normal
One has to wonder with the amount of times they kept doing it would it actually rain or produce results when they sacrificed. Because you would think the would at some point realize hey this doesn't seem to be working
I mean you can make the same argument for Christianity or any religion. At one point does the prayer not match up with what you want. For the Aztecs and some other indigenous cultures they continued minor ritual sacrifices even after Spanish colonization.
