- Our Community Garden is Thriving! The Weeds Aren't!
In this community garden plot update video, we take a look at how well the black plastic is preventing the weeds from coming up alongside our corn and winter squash. This is also a garden tour 2024 update video where we show you just how well everything is growing in our community allotment gardening space.
One of the things we have struggled with over the past few seasons while growing at our community garden plot is that we can't often make it over to the space for regular care, and so this means that we are overtaken by weeds, and even though we have still gotten good harvests, we wanted to try to limit the amount of weeds we are dealing with, and that is the reason for the black plastic that we laid down this year.
Since I am going to be out of town for the next few weeks, this should also help us to have a garden in good shape when I return.
In addition to the garden tour, you will see me doing some weed eating around the perimeter of the plot, as that is one area where the black plastic doesn't reach.
Thank you so much for enjoying this late June Garden tour video 2024. Have a great week!

Looking good…the black plastic is definitely a game changer!
It looks great! I love your generous time & efforts you give to the community garden. I’m fighting off the squash bugs, drought & heat. Summertime in SW MO is a battle to the finish. 💪🙏😜
Looks like a lot of squash!
Wow everything is really growing. Thank god for that black plastic. What a difference that makes.
So much rain, it's raining again this morning.
it is never going to stop!
Its a whipper snipper 😄
I'm in WI, and the only way I can get a season long enough to grow sweet potatoes fully is to plant them in garden boxes on wheels, so I can roll them inside to finish the season. I'm 6B. I was going to try to give them an earlier start in the winter, but my husband thought my sweet potatoes I was saving for starts were not good enough to eat and thew them our!l Maybe next year.
It's a string trimmer. You can put a Cadillac sticker on a Volkswagen and it will still be a Volkswagen.
Its a strimmer for me (string trimmer).
Looks like some of your weeds are chickweed on the outskirts their delicious in salads
I call a weed eater weed wacker because it wacks at weeds
