    Lyrics
    the two room shotgun house
the folks could hear her howls
the cotton bed sheets blood, my son
one less, when its all done
Love me tender as what keeps you well
My voice is back home while I’m in hell
Who’s the ol’ slew foot who took you from me
Cried oh Private Presley, she swayed like the trees
    the bus line, people shout
reach out with my hand to these sidewalk crowds
all of these faces, you cant see, with me
i wanna go to home to my river winds breeze
Love me tender as what keep you well
My voice is back home while I’m in hell
Whos the ol slew foot who took you from me
Cried oh Private Presley, she swayed like the trees
    the Memphis sun still shone
and tupelos air still filled my lungs
alone except my songs, you’re gone
just bring me with you love
Love me tender as what keeps you well
My voice is back home while im in hell
Whos the ol slew foot who took you from me
Cried oh Private Presley, she sways like the trees

Peach Pit is hands down, undoubtedly, for sure the most talented group of this generation. From the complex and perfectly accentuated lyrics, to the blues/psych and unbeatable lead guitar work, then the groovy (dare I say funky) back bone that is the bass, and the fluent yet mercurial drums, holding everything in time and in place from the pocket. The song structures are similar to post-rock, starting off soft and delicate, and rising slowly into a hard hitting, bombast showcase of all emotions. Always beautiful, always cerebral, and always.... "Daddies"

I saw these guys by accident at the side stage of my local venue, with maybe 20-30 people in the room. I had never heard of them but they hooked me with their live transition from being so normal-alrighty aphrodite. Then they really had to bring me on the verge of tears with this song. Talked to the lead guitar player for like 20 minutes after he was so cool and easy to talk to. A year later me and my friends drive up to Toronto to see them this past October and they literally filled the venue wall to wall and put on one of them greatest shows I've ever seen. Two songs in they started playing Sweet FA and I couldnt help break out into tears. They are the best current rock band and deserve everything and all the progress they have made. Keep rockin daddies I cant wait for your new tunes

I heard this is about Elvis Presley's time in the military but I can't help but feel there's a more personal aspect to it. About being away from home, away from someone you love, or just longing to be somewhere else. Such a great song

  • @xTravisMarx

The entire song vibe/soul is hard to explain, it's sorta like a swelling universal soundtrack to a person's life yet being so elusive in that you don't know you've experienced those life experiences it yet. Something familiar yet unrecognizable, no? (I love the song btw)

I'm pretty sure it's from the perspective of Vernon Presley, Elvis Presley's father, about Elvis's birth. Elvis was born ten minutes after his brother, who was stillborn.
Pretty sure the soul of the song is the grief of losing one of your twin baby boys.

I don’t know what it is but this song just gets me every single time. Every time I hear that intro my heart aches and I just sink and have to close my eyes. This song has everything you could need in a song, emotional beautiful music and voice, good beat, a section to completely jam to, a slow dramatic section, and build up and mellow guitar rolls (I don’t know music terms that’s just what it sounds like). This song is undoubtedly my favourite song of all time. I am in love with this song. Always have been, always will be. no one can ever understand how much this song means to me fuckckkkkkkkkkk.

A moment for those that still haven’t heard this song.
This whole piece has that feeling of looking down at a car driving of into the distance to new life or the feeling of life living on.
It’s bittersweet, nostalgic, beautiful and calm. It euphoric and happy and new.
I feel this is the song you would dance to without knowing or having no specific moves, just twirling and spinning and enjoying the time we have now. Like it’s the end of the world but you know that the new ones gonna come soon so you live in this one to the fullest.
It gives you sense of present with looking back at the last, only to leave it behind for the future. It’s so full of life.
At least it does for me. Peach Pit this truly is a masterpiece.

They played in calgary two days ago and I missed their set because of traffic (and lack of planning) and I was so excited to listen to this song because it genuinely means the WORLD to me. It’s one of those songs that I will forever treasure and has become so personal it feels MINE even though thousands of people listen to them now and isn’t mine but theirs! I’ve been listening to Peach Pit since 2018 and their music, but private presley in particular, has helped me through some really, really hard periods in my life. They also mean so so so much to me because they were one of the first bands I discovered on my own (help of spotify suggested lol) when I was starting to discover music on my own not just based on what my friends listened to and recommended or the radio. I also did a graphic design project on them in high school!!! I wish I’d gotten the chance to see them live when they were an emerging band and do miss how private they felt because not many people knew them but am eternally grateful they’ve gotten the recognition they deserve. I knew right away when I listened to their music for the first time that they would be huge one day and I was right!! Ha ha!! I’m eternally grateful for their music and hope to see them live and hear this song sooner rather than later. Thank you for everything, and please continue being Peach Pit with your silly goofy instagram posts and stories. Love you to the moon and back!
