i like old TDS a lot but I feel like if they stuck with that simplistic style the game would've died out. It's fun to revisit it, but I don't think it would survive the modern roblox landscape of games. On the other hand, bunny skins, so idk
If everyone in the tds development team went into making the game more fun, we would see something like critical tower defense where the visuals aren't so good but it is super balanced and has tonnes of reasons to come back to it.
That brings back so many memories I started playing just before the easter event 2020 and I remember playing it with my brother and sister. also, it was so good because i could play it on my phone anytime and now I have to play it on my pc because my phone just crashes (even my laptop lags now). Real, I started playing 2020 too but I didn't do the event since I would just grind, I didn't know that the event existed but man I remember how fun it would truly be, running around in the lobby, the graphics were super simple it had a charm that made so happy! Yet after overhaul it made me so sad too see it going for graphics ever since then I see its bad, I have taken breaks that range from 2-6 months without playing it just makes you think what went wrong yk Other than that I totally agree with you, it did infact help me childhood
i first joined tds for the 2020 egg hunt, and i gotta say times were much more simple back then, and in my book simple is better. while today we have cool skins and towers, old tds just had a certain feeling to it that tds today cant beat. tds legacy is one of those games where i can still relive my memories in 2023. good times i tell ya

man, i remember my first match. the first EVER tower defense game i have played. i unequipped all my towers before because i was trying to place them in the lobby or something ( i didnt know i wasnt in the normal round yet). i unknowingly walked into an elevator and began my first round. it was molten on grass isle. i remember seeing a ton of things i thought looked so awesome, (mainly commanders). everyone there was so nice to me, and somehow tought me the basics of the game without me having any towers. i cant remember them very well now, since that was almost 4 years ago. but i will forever remember the way they were to me. now i am a tower defense addict, and im even making my own games now. without them, i dont know if i would ever have gotten into game development. thank you tds.
Its so reminiscent to see the game when i started playing it back in spring 2020, it felt so fun, and it was so sad to come back to tds in late 2021 just to see all the game so underwhelming and depressing, i gave the game the chance and hoped itll be better, but the game keeps failing to entertain me as much as it used to do
this is why I honestly switched to tbz. it has its flaws (last tower was 5 months ago) but the visuals are super simplistic and a team of 6 can sometimes not even be enough, as well as the grind being easier and more enjoyable than just gladiator farm accel and win over 100 times to get 1 slight buff to a tower (golden crate)

I started playing tds in April of 2020 (when lockdown started where I live) I am now a level 258 in tds, seeing this game gives me so much nostalgia of the 7 hour zoom calls playing Roblox with my closest friends. My only complaint about this game is it doesn’t have the 2020 lobby music. :(
I began the game when the pursuit was released and I had so much passion and love for how simple, fun and friendly the game was back then, it's a shame to see what it has become now

I do not speak for everyone here but honestly, if you want me crucified go ahead. But I will say this. New TDS is better than Old TDS. People who like Old TDS are mostly people that are blinded by nostalgia and can't appreciate changes (not directing to every single person but a huge amount.) But let's be honest. If Old TDS was kept till today, people would say that TDS is a Tower Battles copy. The balancing? Old TDS also lacks good balancing! For example, Outlaw. Outlaw is honestly, MID! Ranger is better. Oh, and before you say "um but hd", Hidden Detection doesn't really matter when you have 4 other slots in your inventory. Plus, if you're talking about how New TDS is just meta, when were other towers really used in Old TDS? You used your meta too, so why complain about New TDS' meta? New TDS balancing is miles better. For example, Engineer. Some people say that it's underwhelming, but I say that it is quite balanced. Maybe a slight buff could be made but not until it gets 450 dps. People really misunderstood Engineer, because she is actually a jack of all trades, not a DPS tower. This makes Engineer a viable option for every aspect in the game, making it quite a versatile tower in my opinion. "Oh, but old tds has actual updates!" That may be true, but keep in mind, Below and the dev team are busy sometimes, and they have lives outside of just TDS. The reason they have been dropping multiple crate updates are to fulfill your "when update!!!" demands. Plus, they promised they are working on something big for the end of the year. So be patient. "New tds is p2w" No, it is not! The definition of p2w is when something is bought to give a massive advantage over the users that don't buy the product, since the user that bought the product can use the product competitively against other players. When is this really a thing in New TDS? There's no PVP aspect! It's all teamwork. Instead, it actually BENEFITS the user and the people around it. New TDS is also better in quality. Everything such as the animations, maps, UI, everything is superior to Old TDS. Not to mention, Old TDS ripped some soundtracks from other sources. Just sayin. In conclusion, New TDS is much better than Old TDS. The people who love Old TDS to the point where they could not adapt to changes, are just blinded by nostalgia.

I'm 100% sure that people were complaining about how 2021 tds is "unbalanced" are now complaining that the devs are focusing on balancing the towers. While I see your point and most people are blinded by nostalgia you also got to remember that Nostalgia can be good and bad depending on how much you intake. While I do differ than new TDS is better it also helps to think that it's was 2020 mid pandemic, so I see why the devs where updating like crazy no going outside hardly any school etc. But it seems like it's going in the same direction as actual Roblox going in a soulless direction just focusing on quality while it can be good but it excluded a lot of the community and just makes it way more complex and less of that fun vibe if you know. While I know that you gonna say what about the tower battles it was going to go in a different direction you can see some of the concepts were considered better than actual TB, even by some OG players of TB they also added more fun things and added details that TB just didn't add to keep it professional, but now it seems TDS is going in that direction just like TB going too much towards the professional and less fun making it feel like a soul less game and more of a professional project and they ensure quality too much most phone/PC can hardly handle 3 graphics. Overall, OG TDS is good in its own ways but sometimes there are ways that new TDS beats it in, not to forget the fun vibe it had compared to the VERY VERY VERY seriousness of it now. Well, Below probably thinks this old version of tds is NOTHING more that a cheap ripoff. So once he finds out this game grows, hes probably gonna kill it just like he did to that other game.
Solar Eclipse was my favorite tds update just because of the new structure of having to beat a night to unlock the next and the bosses were super cool and were difficult to beat. To beat night 1 you didn't need to spam 32 accelerators, neither did you have to chain commanders. You just simply had to come up with a simple strategy to kill Jaxe (i think that was his name). I wouldn't go back to 2020, rather late 2021.

Now we’ll get some skin crates every once in a while. I liked what they were doing with the game, and they were making it better. Now it’s focused on monetizing the game. The events, in my opinion, were better. I still like tds now, but I don’t think it’s as fun.

Absolutely agreed with you, Elite. I started playing in 2021 when there was the Frost Invasion event. And yes, that was fun to play even in 2021! So now we are waiting for a big update that developers said will come out at the end of the year.
Yeah i joined in 2019, i loved the game, i still loved it during 2020, the halloween update was amazing... all that fun ended when the eclipse update came out honestly. the matchmaking was so weird and too complciated. the last ACTUALLY GOOD event was probably the frost spirit event.

I can see you blame devs for ruining game but it isn't right direction. Imo reason why tds isn't as good as before is comunity. What made btd6 and old tds great was comunity what enjoyed game. Btd6 was disliked upon relase and that time was worst time for btd6 but when comunity find out what a good game btd6 was they turnedgame what it is today. Ninja Kiwi have so many interactions with comunity and that makes developing game and playing game more enjoyable. Old tds had also really nice comunity. Below joined game itself to play with players and touch with comunity was big. What about tds now? Comunity complaining how bad updates are (they are not that bad), how old tds was better, joking how game is unbalanced and grindy while below only can develop game more and occasionally cry in corner to see how his life project is falling down. That also lead to below lose touch with comunity (he don't join game anymore, only when he talks is leaking something or when he must react to situation). You can also see how devs tryed make players happy. After what failure hardcore update was they wanted make even better update than hardcore supposed to be but problem was it was to much for them especjaly matchmaking system which coding is extremely hard. To this day i don't see any game what added same feature in roblox which is impressive. This leads to long delay which was frost invasion (they didn't wanted make same mistake as hardcore relasing unfinished update earlier). Thing what really forced them to relase update was metaverse event and long time without updates and then they back to doing all stuff they promised. They were kinda to passionate about all stuff they promised because it was to much for them. After solar eclipse devs saw comunity complains in what abd state tds was so they wanted now calm comunity by doing what they wanted. Comunity mostly complained about bugs and balance so what they did is rework towers into more balanced state and fix major bugs. But comunity wanted more gameplay stuff so what they did is do duck hunt. Despite event being really good comunity called whole update bad because of engi price (they promised make it easier but still complained) and lack of event towers. Comunity then wanted permament gamemodes so what they did is readd polluted wastelands. Comunity complained as allways about smallest crap so with each gamemode they wanted make "fallen reskin" better than last one but they allways complained. Comunity wanted event again so what they did is xmas event. Another thing I fogot to add before is that update times where really quick because comunity wanted fast updates which lead to updates be pretty rushed. Best we could see with voilent night which we could clearly see it was rushed. Why? Because of comunity. IT EVEN COMPLAINED ABOUT FEW HOUR DELAY BECAUSE OF ROBLOX TRANSPORTING ASSETS FROM STUDIO TO GAME. Other thing comunity really wanted then is again balance and qol stufd like auto skip and keybinds so they did that. And I think this is moment when Below noticed that doing whatever comunity desired is bad move so what they did is they started cooking themselves. They started doing stuff on their own without listening what comunity wanted and occasionally to keep game allive adding skincrates. Because comunity was complaining how game was dry they said they are cooking something good and they gonna relase it near end of the year. Imo they did good because they might relase really amazing update which game lacked. Despite pvp and other stuff are not being relased yet, they are pretty much finished but most of stuff can't be relased because of one thing. Matchmaking isn't finished yet. Matchmaking is supposed to replace elevators and to this day elevators are still here which shows Matchmaking isn't finished. It isn't finished because devs didn't had time to do it. What they did is do what comunity desired just to be complained about smallest shit. the loading screen and lobby music alone brought tears to my eyes seeing how much the game turned into a dumpster fire and i loved the old lobbies so much and the little Easter egg at the beach with the hardcore door is so nostalgic the game is great i will defiantly be pouring my time into this game to get all of the old models not for use but MODELS its the best part about old tds and Electroshocker was actually accurate and useful
Old tds was better. I remember the egg event, the my first event and also the lobby, that was the most nostalgic thing. Honestly new yes is a downgrade and also there were actual updates. One more thing, towers were actually good like freezer but got nerfed to the ground because of accel.
Honestly I still find both enjoyable. TDSL was great to play, even though I never played in 2020, its an incredibly fun time. However, same goes for TDS. I still completely hate how its almost taken a year for a content drop, which honestly, i dont think should take that long, but its still a fun game in my eyes, and is changing a lot of stuff the players wanted, but just gets overshadowed by the fact we havent had a big update in 8 months. TL:DR: Both are good lol, TDS can imrpove, but overall I like both the same.

I played the old game and all it is if your a noob someone helps you win which is not as fun as today as you have to work to be better as you need good comunication for certain things to happen like beating quick draw or lost souls mode and trying to see how far you can get on hardcore is fun but tds can’t add more fun content as people want more and more they reused duck hunts no track design as it would make the game faster to update and is cool and unique and not just another track event but what do people do scream at the devs for doing what they want
Even though i agree with most of the things mentioned theres one morr thing i'd like to point out: tds died because it was popular for example, im sure you had matches with people and just chat while playing, communication might yave been what kept it alive, and then it became famous and a bunch of 6 yr olds started playing making it hard to actually have teammates that actually use the chat, making ppl bored of the game making long time players quit and people never helping new players giving the new players a bad impression and making them quit which continued until where we arr right now.

Agree, but with the bad impression on new player, i think it is because there is no elevator for limited amount of player, for example, you want to solo, you have to pray so that noobs don’t go in your elevator, but new players just don’t understand and go in anyways

woo boy time to write a book on how i personally think you wrong so i see some of your points but personally i do like the new visuals also to talk about something just generally in roblox, if you dont have good visuals theres more of a chance of your game dying. Think of All star tower defense (i don't really play it) it doess have a few different mechanics like instead of skins its crate rng (i can agree with too many skins) they have good (enough) visuals to actually stay up. Can't just make a anime game and let it be trash. TDS different for everyone but theres 1 fact that just stays up, grinding is hard and annoying but the fact you could get a multiple new towers playing 1 game for the first time in your life? no no no. people would grind the game out so fast it'd be atonshing. The grind for a platinum or golden too easyy. There are things i just like about new TDS but also hate. TDS has come a long way and I don't think we need to go back. I just slapped my forehead saying "oh my god" when i realised that below and raz could have had one of the best games on roblox if they just kept it simple and not invest too much time in detail and graphics. I don't care if a game looks like old tds or modern tds i just wanna play the one thats more fun. I seriously hope that the devs, especially below understand the fact that old tds was a roblox master piece and that he could have kept it.
While I personally never ever understood why people liked old tds(my opinion is just that they're blinded by nostalgia) I don't blame anyone for liking it. Though calling it a "roblox masterpiece" is just wrong, yes it has certain advantages compared to modern tds such as Normal mode being actually normal and Enforcer being a more unique tower but almost every other point in this video is either counterintuitive or just wrong, either that or it's promoting un-originality. First of all, I don't exactly think the old TDS towers usually being straight up copies of their TB counterparts makes them good, from a technical standpoint yes but TDS wasn't the one to come up with their stats, it was Tower Battles. I can appreciate the effort the devs are currently making to distance their towers from TB, while in some cases they blunder they at least bother to try unlike old tds. Also, old tds having more updates was because the game had more to add than they do now, there was a lot of tower archetypes the game had yet to fill in. That and the fact old TDS had much worse quality so adding new content was quick and easy. Modern TDS actually has a standard to uphold and there isnt many more tower archetypes for them to add, so they cant just pump out whatever they feel like within a couple months. Secondly, the whole point about grinding. Yes modern tds is rather grindy, but I think the larger gaps between towers allows players to familiarize themselves with the towers they get and the modes too, as well as making them put more thought into what towers to buy. But if you don't like grinding it's not like old tds is much better considering they had platinum skins to "add to the grind" as it's said in the video. You can't praise the lack of grinding in old tds and platinum skins at the same time, do you want to grind or not? Pick a lane. And while this *is* Elite's opinion, in *my* opinion the points he brings up about the tds lobbies are utter nonsense. The new TDS lobby doesn't seem cluttered at all and old TDS's lobby was bright yellow and rather straining on the eyes, the new lobby has colors which are much more easy on the eyes. It isn't just nothing but bright yellow bricks either so there's some contrast which makes it more visually appealing. Also, I have genuinely no clue what the video's point about "balance" was about, I don't think Elite has any idea how much of a challenge Polluted Wastelands 2, Badlands 2 and Hardcore are, likely because he has all the powerful towers and plays with people who have them too, but that's not the case for everyone and clearly he doesn't realize that. Also old tds didn't have more options, it has 4 main gamemodes and that's about it. Modern TDS has 3 main gamemodes, hardcore, and 3 alternate gamemodes, clearly more even if you don't want to count Normal. Also no, the alternate gamemodes are not just "reskins of Fallen Mode" that's just bullcrap, they take place on a unique map and each pose a different challenge and unique theming as well as an additional challenge that awards a cool skin(Quickdraw and Lost Souls). And finally, "The events were actually Tower Defense? Like the one we're used to" is a phrase that absolutely boils my blood, the video criticizes the Defend the Center gamemodes for being... unique???? Yes, Cold Ambush is very similar to duck hunt but that's because they're both the same kind of mode, but in terms of enemies and the boss they're quite different. Are you saying these unique modes that shake up the usual formula are worse than the bland and basic events that just take place on a specific map? This is just straight up saying that TDS shouldn't innovate and should just stick to the cookie cutter formula and I absolutely hate it for that. I don't even like modern TDS but these points saying the old version is better are straight up wrong. Variety is the spice of life, people, don't let this guy with his rose-tinted glasses who has no clue what he's talking about change that fact. Yes, I wrote maybe a bit too much, but I genuinely can't stand the fact that people are agreeing with this guy. Old tds has it's small strengths here and there but you guys are overselling it.
@@robowisanveithasung6022 It is unique in concept, the devs just simply didn't have the time to flesh out or polish the idea because the roblox community loves to rush their developers. While the TDS team can be rather slow it doesn't help that there's allegedly no time for QA testing due to how impatient the tds community is(though act 3's bugs are still partially the fault of the devs, a whole week of delay yet they couldn't fit a large bug, they should've just delayed it for longer). Plus, I was arguing against the complaint that Elite was making that the defend the center gamemodes shouldnt exist simply because they don't fit his narrow idea of tower defense
Here’s a idea for a tds event, bad name but it’s all I can think of: blast from the past (generic, I know) Basically a portal would open up somewhere in the lobby, if you entered it, you would be sent to the 2020 lobby, old music, old graphics, and all. You could only use the towers from 2020 in the lobby. There would be multiple elevators for the event. Once you enter you would be met with golden mode! If you beat golden mode, you would obtain the event tower, enforcer! Once you enter back into the current lobby, the graphics would be back up to date, including enforcer, new animations, but same ability’s, like spawning the swat van. I know this sounds stupid, but I think it would be cool.
joined tds in 2020, and boy did i enjoy it. it was so fun attempting to get cowboy, doing golden mode, and playing with other people. ever since the modernization of the game, ive just gotten bored of it and never play it anymore.
i have to agree like the last time i played with my original team was ages go and we all quit cause the game was just not worth it,but i do still play the odd one or two matches when i feel like it and i would say play it but dont make the same mistake i did and play way way to much because at that point it just feels like a chore
I mostly agree except 1 key factor burnout. When you work on a game for a long time you get lazier and lazier and even with new employees after a few months you dont wanna really work on the game anymore but yeah honestley its a lot less fun nowdays

I have some ideas, idk if someone already thinked it 1:Endless mode: It will have enemies of the 3 principal gamemodes and it could be 10 coins per wave. 2:Infected modifier:It will be a modifier when your troops become against you havng the same abilities (not counting farm) something like lost souls but better 3:Mystery rush:This will have only mystery enemies and boss mysterys but you will get a lot of cash like polluted 2
Old tds was fun because the modes felt like they were actually difficult and like they encuoraged u to play with others for example wild west had 2 paths wich wluod be hard to solo so u bring other people and The map was stylish
For now, even if you play old TDs right now, you won't enjoy it anymore because you are addicted to modern TDs. But yeah, old TDS was so enjoyable to play.
i joined during the Easter event and i agree with all of the points made in this video sure new/normal tds has better visuals and more features then old tds. old tds had way more updates and was a lot more beginner friendly and the hardest more was an actual challenge and updates didn't take 8 months to be released
do not ask for events its better for them to rework standard gamemodes event will be here only temporaly (and there are speculations that below do not want to fo events anymore) so it will be dry again after it its better to rework already existing standard gamemodes becouse that will make community not bored for longer

Old TDS was charming, I remember back in the day just returning home to school and rushing to my room to play tds, the intro also had so,e thing charming and also sometimes made me get excited, JUST the intro And what obviously make old tds more fun is the nostalgia, old models and graphics… just everything gives nostalgia The updates were frequent and almost no delays, that’s what made TB more popular than TB Old tank and Old Templar were also challenging and made defeat those waves relaxing Let’s not forget the old music, lobby and John Ahhh yes. That brings back so many memories I started playing just before the easter event 2020 and I remember playing it with my brother and sister. also, it was so good because i could play it on my phone anytime and now I have to play it on my pc because my phone just crashes (even my laptop lags now). Real, I started playing 2020 too but I didn't do the event since I would just grind, I didn't know that the event existed but man I remember how fun it would truly be, running around in the lobby, the graphics were super simple it had a charm that made so happy!
Yet after overhaul it made me so sad too see it going for graphics ever since then I see its bad, I have taken breaks that range from 2-6 months without playing it just makes you think what went wrong yk

Old TDS was mid and would die after a week if it were made today. Old TDS wouldn't cut it for todays standards and was honestly shit.
i first joined tds for the 2020 egg hunt, and i gotta say times were much more simple back then, and in my book simple is better. while today we have cool skins and towers, old tds just had a certain feeling to it that tds today cant beat. tds legacy is one of those games where i can still relive my memories in 2023. good times i tell ya

man, i remember my first match. the first EVER tower defense game i have played. i unequipped all my towers before because i was trying to place them in the lobby or something ( i didnt know i wasnt in the normal round yet). i unknowingly walked into an elevator and began my first round. it was molten on grass isle. i remember seeing a ton of things i thought looked so awesome, (mainly commanders). everyone there was so nice to me, and somehow tought me the basics of the game without me having any towers. i cant remember them very well now, since that was almost 4 years ago. but i will forever remember the way they were to me. now i am a tower defense addict, and im even making my own games now. without them, i dont know if i would ever have gotten into game development. thank you tds.
Its so reminiscent to see the game when i started playing it back in spring 2020, it felt so fun, and it was so sad to come back to tds in late 2021 just to see all the game so underwhelming and depressing, i gave the game the chance and hoped itll be better, but the game keeps failing to entertain me as much as it used to do

this is why I honestly switched to tbz. it has its flaws (last tower was 5 months ago) but the visuals are super simplistic and a team of 6 can sometimes not even be enough, as well as the grind being easier and more enjoyable than just gladiator farm accel and win over 100 times to get 1 slight buff to a tower (golden crate)

I started playing tds in April of 2020 (when lockdown started where I live) I am now a level 258 in tds, seeing this game gives me so much nostalgia of the 7 hour zoom calls playing Roblox with my closest friends. My only complaint about this game is it doesn’t have the 2020 lobby music. :(

I do not speak for everyone here but honestly, if you want me crucified go ahead. But I will say this. New TDS is better than Old TDS.
People who like Old TDS are mostly people that are blinded by nostalgia and can't appreciate changes (not directing to every single person but a huge amount.) But let's be honest. If Old TDS was kept till today, people would say that TDS is a Tower Battles copy.
The balancing? Old TDS also lacks good balancing! For example, Outlaw. Outlaw is honestly, MID! Ranger is better. Oh, and before you say "um but hd", Hidden Detection doesn't really matter when you have 4 other slots in your inventory. Plus, if you're talking about how New TDS is just meta, when were other towers really used in Old TDS? You used your meta too, so why complain about New TDS' meta?
New TDS balancing is miles better. For example, Engineer. Some people say that it's underwhelming, but I say that it is quite balanced. Maybe a slight buff could be made but not until it gets 450 dps. People really misunderstood Engineer, because she is actually a jack of all trades, not a DPS tower. This makes Engineer a viable option for every aspect in the game, making it quite a versatile tower in my opinion.
"Oh, but old tds has actual updates!" That may be true, but keep in mind, Below and the dev team are busy sometimes, and they have lives outside of just TDS. The reason they have been dropping multiple crate updates are to fulfill your "when update!!!" demands. Plus, they promised they are working on something big for the end of the year. So be patient.
"New tds is p2w" No, it is not! The definition of p2w is when something is bought to give a massive advantage over the users that don't buy the product, since the user that bought the product can use the product competitively against other players. When is this really a thing in New TDS? There's no PVP aspect! It's all teamwork. Instead, it actually BENEFITS the user and the people around it.
New TDS is also better in quality. Everything such as the animations, maps, UI, everything is superior to Old TDS. Not to mention, Old TDS ripped some soundtracks from other sources. Just sayin.
In conclusion, New TDS is much better than Old TDS. The people who love Old TDS to the point where they could not adapt to changes, are just blinded by nostalgia.

While I see your point and most people are blinded by nostalgia you also got to remember that Nostalgia can be good and bad depending on how much you intake. While I do differ than new TDS is better it also helps to think that it's was 2020 mid pandemic, so I see why the devs where updating like crazy no going outside hardly any school etc. But it seems like it's going in the same direction as actual Roblox going in a soulless direction just focusing on quality while it can be good but it excluded a lot of the community and just makes it way more complex and less of that fun vibe if you know.
While I know that you gonna say what about the tower battles it was going to go in a different direction you can see some of the concepts were considered better than actual TB, even by some OG players of TB they also added more fun things and added details that TB just didn't add to keep it professional, but now it seems TDS is going in that direction just like TB going too much towards the professional and less fun making it feel like a soul less game and more of a professional project and they ensure quality too much most phone/PC can hardly handle 3 graphics.
Overall, OG TDS is good in its own ways but sometimes there are ways that new TDS beats it in, not to forget the fun vibe it had compared to the VERY VERY VERY seriousness of it now.

man, i loved 2020 tds so much. when i first joined tds i spent like hours playing hide and seek with my brother in lobby, this was so fun
Solar Eclipse was my favorite tds update just because of the new structure of having to beat a night to unlock the next and the bosses were super cool and were difficult to beat. To beat night 1 you didn't need to spam 32 accelerators, neither did you have to chain commanders. You just simply had to come up with a simple strategy to kill Jaxe (i think that was his name). I wouldn't go back to 2020, rather late 2021.

Yeah i joined in 2019, i loved the game, i still loved it during 2020, the halloween update was amazing... all that fun ended when the eclipse update came out honestly. the matchmaking was so weird and too complciated. the last ACTUALLY GOOD event was probably the frost spirit event.

I can see you blame devs for ruining game but it isn't right direction. Imo reason why tds isn't as good as before is comunity. What made btd6 and old tds great was comunity what enjoyed game. Btd6 was disliked upon relase and that time was worst time for btd6 but when comunity find out what a good game btd6 was they turnedgame what it is today. Ninja Kiwi have so many interactions with comunity and that makes developing game and playing game more enjoyable. Old tds had also really nice comunity. Below joined game itself to play with players and touch with comunity was big. What about tds now? Comunity complaining how bad updates are (they are not that bad), how old tds was better, joking how game is unbalanced and grindy while below only can develop game more and occasionally cry in corner to see how his life project is falling down. That also lead to below lose touch with comunity (he don't join game anymore, only when he talks is leaking something or when he must react to situation). You can also see how devs tryed make players happy. After what failure hardcore update was they wanted make even better update than hardcore supposed to be but problem was it was to much for them especjaly matchmaking system which coding is extremely hard. To this day i don't see any game what added same feature in roblox which is impressive. This leads to long delay which was frost invasion (they didn't wanted make same mistake as hardcore relasing unfinished update earlier). Thing what really forced them to relase update was metaverse event and long time without updates and then they back to doing all stuff they promised. They were kinda to passionate about all stuff they promised because it was to much for them. After solar eclipse devs saw comunity complains in what abd state tds was so they wanted now calm comunity by doing what they wanted. Comunity mostly complained about bugs and balance so what they did is rework towers into more balanced state and fix major bugs. But comunity wanted more gameplay stuff so what they did is do duck hunt. Despite event being really good comunity called whole update bad because of engi price (they promised make it easier but still complained) and lack of event towers. Comunity then wanted permament gamemodes so what they did is readd polluted wastelands. Comunity complained as allways about smallest crap so with each gamemode they wanted make "fallen reskin" better than last one but they allways complained. Comunity wanted event again so what they did is xmas event. Another thing I fogot to add before is that update times where really quick because comunity wanted fast updates which lead to updates be pretty rushed. Best we could see with voilent night which we could clearly see it was rushed. Why? Because of comunity. IT EVEN COMPLAINED ABOUT FEW HOUR DELAY BECAUSE OF ROBLOX TRANSPORTING ASSETS FROM STUDIO TO GAME. Other thing comunity really wanted then is again balance and qol stufd like auto skip and keybinds so they did that. And I think this is moment when Below noticed that doing whatever comunity desired is bad move so what they did is they started cooking themselves. They started doing stuff on their own without listening what comunity wanted and occasionally to keep game allive adding skincrates. Because comunity was complaining how game was dry they said they are cooking something good and they gonna relase it near end of the year. Imo they did good because they might relase really amazing update which game lacked. Despite pvp and other stuff are not being relased yet, they are pretty much finished but most of stuff can't be relased because of one thing. Matchmaking isn't finished yet. Matchmaking is supposed to replace elevators and to this day elevators are still here which shows Matchmaking isn't finished. It isn't finished because devs didn't had time to do it. What they did is do what comunity desired just to be complained about smallest shit. Instead complaining how game is bad now and how old tds was better we should help devs make tds better than ever, which will be better for us and developers.

the loading screen and lobby music alone brought tears to my eyes seeing how much the game turned into a dumpster fire and i loved the old lobbies so much and the little Easter egg at the beach with the hardcore door is so nostalgic the game is great i will defiantly be pouring my time into this game to get all of the old models not for use but MODELS its the best part about old tds and Electroshocker was actually accurate and useful

Old tds was better. I remember the egg event, the my first event and also the lobby, that was the most nostalgic thing. Honestly new yes is a downgrade and also there were actual updates. One more thing, towers were actually good like freezer but got nerfed to the ground because of accel.
why did you think a tower like freezer should be on par with commander and dj? it costs less than 1k, freezes for a bot, it does its job.
Honestly I still find both enjoyable.
TDSL was great to play, even though I never played in 2020, its an incredibly fun time.
However, same goes for TDS. I still completely hate how its almost taken a year for a content drop, which honestly, i dont think should take that long, but its still a fun game in my eyes, and is changing a lot of stuff the players wanted, but just gets overshadowed by the fact we havent had a big update in 8 months.
TL:DR: Both are good lol, TDS can imrpove, but overall I like both the same.

Even though i agree with most of the things mentioned theres one morr thing i'd like to point out: tds died because it was popular for example, im sure you had matches with people and just chat while playing, communication might yave been what kept it alive, and then it became famous and a bunch of 6 yr olds started playing making it hard to actually have teammates that actually use the chat, making ppl bored of the game making long time players quit and people never helping new players giving the new players a bad impression and making them quit which continued until where we arr right now.

Can't just make a anime game and let it be trash. TDS different for everyone but theres 1 fact that just stays up, grinding is hard and annoying but the fact you could get a multiple new towers playing 1 game for the first time in your life? no no no. people would grind the game out so fast it'd be atonshing. The grind for a platinum or golden too easyy. There are things i just like about new TDS but also hate. TDS has come a long way and I don't think we need to go back. Of course u can disagree and say something like "your a clown" "this makes no sense" "your dumb" "p2w" My opinion still stands.

Ok this whole rant about "OLd TDs iS beTTeR" is getting annoying; here's SOME things you're wrong about:
1. "I would not care if TDS simplfiied the game for more features";
> TDS with simple graphics like in 2020 wouldn't catch the eyes of new players as much as the current graphics
> Roblox is too competitive without graphics innovation and making the game more visually appealing
> You are not the one to decide if the visuals should be simple or advanced, if you're so mad about it play your Bloons Tower Defense 6
> BTD 6 if I'm correct has a bigger dev team, also they need to make the visual changes to stand up on the front page + BTD 6 is a seperate game and isn't on Roblox, and Roblox is far harder to keep being relevant on.
2. "The events were more fun back then"

I just slapped my forehead saying "oh my god" when i realised that below and raz could have had one of the best games on roblox if they just kept it simple and not invest too much time in detail and graphics. I don't care if a game looks like old tds or modern tds i just wanna play the one thats more fun. I seriously hope that the devs, especially below understand the fact that old tds was a roblox master piece and that he could have kept it.

While I personally never ever understood why people liked old tds(my opinion is just that they're blinded by nostalgia) I don't blame anyone for liking it. Though calling it a "roblox masterpiece" is just wrong, yes it has certain advantages compared to modern tds such as Normal mode being actually normal and Enforcer being a more unique tower but almost every other point in this video is either counterintuitive or just wrong, either that or it's promoting un-originality.
First of all, I don't exactly think the old TDS towers usually being straight up copies of their TB counterparts makes them good, from a technical standpoint yes but TDS wasn't the one to come up with their stats, it was Tower Battles. I can appreciate the effort the devs are currently making to distance their towers from TB, while in some cases they blunder they at least bother to try unlike old tds. Also, old tds having more updates was because the game had more to add than they do now, there was a lot of tower archetypes the game had yet to fill in. That and the fact old TDS had much worse quality so adding new content was quick and easy. Modern TDS actually has a standard to uphold and there isnt many more tower archetypes for them to add, so they cant just pump out whatever they feel like within a couple months.
Secondly, the whole point about grinding. Yes modern tds is rather grindy, but I think the larger gaps between towers allows players to familiarize themselves with the towers they get and the modes too, as well as making them put more thought into what towers to buy. But if you don't like grinding it's not like old tds is much better considering they had platinum skins to "add to the grind" as it's said in the video. You can't praise the lack of grinding in old tds and platinum skins at the same time, do you want to grind or not? Pick a lane.
And while this *is* Elite's opinion, in *my* opinion the points he brings up about the tds lobbies are utter nonsense. The new TDS lobby doesn't seem cluttered at all and old TDS's lobby was bright yellow and rather straining on the eyes, the new lobby has colors which are much more easy on the eyes. It isn't just nothing but bright yellow bricks either so there's some contrast which makes it more visually appealing.
Also, I have genuinely no clue what the video's point about "balance" was about, I don't think Elite has any idea how much of a challenge Polluted Wastelands 2, Badlands 2 and Hardcore are, likely because he has all the powerful towers and plays with people who have them too, but that's not the case for everyone and clearly he doesn't realize that. Also old tds didn't have more options, it has 4 main gamemodes and that's about it. Modern TDS has 3 main gamemodes, hardcore, and 3 alternate gamemodes, clearly more even if you don't want to count Normal. Also no, the alternate gamemodes are not just "reskins of Fallen Mode" that's just bullcrap, they take place on a unique map and each pose a different challenge and unique theming as well as an additional challenge that awards a cool skin(Quickdraw and Lost Souls).
And finally, "The events were actually Tower Defense? Like the one we're used to" is a phrase that absolutely boils my blood, the video criticizes the Defend the Center gamemodes for being... unique???? Yes, Cold Ambush is very similar to duck hunt but that's because they're both the same kind of mode, but in terms of enemies and the boss they're quite different. Are you saying these unique modes that shake up the usual formula are worse than the bland and basic events that just take place on a specific map? This is just straight up saying that TDS shouldn't innovate and should just stick to the cookie cutter formula and I absolutely hate it for that. I don't even like modern TDS but these points saying the old version is better are straight up wrong. Variety is the spice of life, people, don't let this guy with his rose-tinted glasses who has no clue what he's talking about change that fact.
Yes, I wrote maybe a bit too much, but I genuinely can't stand the fact that people are agreeing with this guy. Old tds has it's small strengths here and there but you guys are overselling it.

@@robowisanveithasung6022 It is unique in concept, the devs just simply didn't have the time to flesh out or polish the idea because the roblox community loves to rush their developers. While the TDS team can be rather slow it doesn't help that there's allegedly no time for QA testing due to how impatient the tds community is(though act 3's bugs are still partially the fault of the devs, a whole week of delay yet they couldn't fit a large bug, they should've just delayed it for longer). Plus, I was arguing against the complaint that Elite was making that the defend the center gamemodes shouldnt exist simply because they don't fit his narrow idea of tower defense

Here’s a idea for a tds event, bad name but it’s all I can think of: blast from the past (generic, I know)
Basically a portal would open up somewhere in the lobby, if you entered it, you would be sent to the 2020 lobby, old music, old graphics, and all.
You could only use the towers from 2020 in the lobby.
There would be multiple elevators for the event.
Once you enter you would be met with golden mode!
If you beat golden mode, you would obtain the event tower, enforcer!
Once you enter back into the current lobby, the graphics would be back up to date, including enforcer, new animations, but same ability’s, like spawning the swat van.
I know this sounds stupid, but I think it would be cool.

joined tds in 2020, and boy did i enjoy it. it was so fun attempting to get cowboy, doing golden mode, and playing with other people. ever since the modernization of the game, ive just gotten bored of it and never play it anymore.

i have to agree like the last time i played with my original team was ages go and we all quit cause the game was just not worth it,but i do still play the odd one or two matches when i feel like it and i would say play it but dont make the same mistake i did and play way way to much because at that point it just feels like a chore
I mostly agree except 1 key factor burnout. When you work on a game for a long time you get lazier and lazier and even with new employees after a few months you dont wanna really work on the game anymore but yeah honestley its a lot less fun nowdays
