    We make candles (really competitive business). You need to consider consumer product labeling requirements. I doubt this complies with all the requirements. Lots of information needs to be on the PDP (primary display panel), i.e. the front label.

    SERIOUSLY HEATHER, your step-by-step tutorial videos on your channel are so helpful and inspiring to watch! I've opened an Etsy shop BECAUSE OF YOU as I needed the hand-holding guidance of what to do and even how to price my products (regarding mugs). I'm now seriously considering opening up a shop to sell candles now, thanks to you. I really appreciate you and what you're doing for people. You're adding so much value and are providing such great advice!! I HOPE KARMA FINDS YOU WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT!!!!! *WARM HUGS*

      You can have multiples shops?

    • @blakdragn
      @blakdragn Před 4 měsíci +1

      We'll YEAH, why wouldn't you have different shops? I watched another CZcams video by another shop owner and content creator who explained that having just one shop that sells mugs, T-shirts, cellphone cases, candles, sweaters, blankets, coloring books, e-books, puzzles, etc, all under one store especially if you're planning to list hundreds of items would confuse the customers. Each store needs to sell a specific niche and only that niche. Yeah, it might be annoying to have multiple emails to check each day to check for messages, but it's worth it. Having multiple streams of income from different niches is the fastest way and more lucrative way of creating wealth.

    • @Adralba007

      What's $15 USD per store to set up when it provides me with organization and logic behind the niche specialty within each of my stores? It's only $15, not a huge deal to me. Why would I sell 200 random Tshirts alongside personalized golfballs and childrens coloring books? Makes no sense unless I call my store TraderJoesEtsyEdition. I prefer to compartmentalize each of my niches. For example, it would only make sense to me to have one Etsy store that sells coffee related listings such as mugs, coffee beans, coffee sipper cups, coffee machine, and mayyyyybe punny Tshirts with coffee slogans. It'd be pushing it to sell candles unless it's coffee scented. I'd have another stroe that sells framed wall art. Amd another store that sells kids stickers. I prefer to be niche specific to be as professional as possible. I'm here for the long run, rather than a hobbiest trying this out for shits & giggles.

    Wow thank you for that information. I’m new to candle making

  • @Kitcatmom
    @Kitcatmom Před 4 měsíci +10

    I am a candle maker, who gave up on selling candles due to the risk involved/insurance needed to protect yourself against buyers who do not follow candle care instructions, cause an accident, and then want to sue the maker. I am now getting into print on demand and have noticed selling candles is an option. What I am curious about is who does the liability fall on if a buyer wants to sue, the print on demand seller or the actual maker of the candle?

    • @northgirl77
      @northgirl77 Před 4 měsíci +5

      If you provide instructions and they don’t follow them should be on them and should not be able to sue you. Can you talk to a lawyer what kind of statement you can add on Etsy store so you don’t get sued just in case. There a books and other items that have some wording like “ the seller is not responsible for any damage or liability this product may cause etc”

    • @Kitcatmom
      @Kitcatmom Před 4 měsíci +7

      Not true. I have been making candles for over three years and am part of a candle making community and have listened to makers discuss these issues in great detail. They can sue you, even if you have warning labels on the candles that they don’t follow and they’re wrong. They won’t win in court, but you still have to pay to defend yourself in court. And if you aren’t an LLC, which I’m not sure many Etsy sellers are, they can come after your personal assets. People are complainers and sue happy. It’s a product I gave up on selling because it was too high risk and I think would require fielding tons of questions from the customers about what type of wax, what type of ingredients, they will complain they don’t like the scent they ordered, complain it doesn’t smell strong enough. Just not worth the hassle IMO. That’s why I’m getting into print on demand. It’s low risk.

    • @Kitcatmom
      @Kitcatmom Před 4 měsíci +2

      Edit to add: In court, you would also have to prove that you tested your candles and they are safe. Testing is documented during testing phases. How are you gonna prove the candle is safe if you didn’t even make it?

    • @itsheatherstudio
      @itsheatherstudio  Před 4 měsíci +6

      There is a risk with selling candles and I’m happy you commented because the concern is valid and should be talked about! From what I’ve heard from people who have sold candles, it is recommended to get product liability insurance if selling candles anywhere since they are flammable.
      Like another mentioned, speaking to a lawyer as well is a great idea to make sure your shop is protected(certain statements may need to be made on your descriptions) along with discussing if an LLC is right for you to protect your business and personal assets in case of being sued.
      As far as the answer about if a lawsuit can happen- I honestly could not answer this on who is at fault. This is a risk you take in being at fault with opening a business with anything you sell, not just candles. I’ve had someone I’ve met in passing who told me the story on how they sued a store for not having a ‘wet area’ sign after mopping that she slipped and injured herself. They received a very large payment from the company at fault from their lawsuit.
      Given, candles are higher risk and I’ve heard of people getting sued for selling hoodies, blankets and jewelry(allergic reaction issues with metals) so nothing is off limits and that’s why it’s good you are researching into this. I am trying to get a lawyer on the channel to ask these Qs because I’d love to give better help. If it concerns you to sell candles, by all means, I would maybe make designs for mugs instead(since designs/niches shown in this video are pretty easy to cross sell too instead) until you get more clear answers.
      I’d love to hear if anyone else sells candles and what their experiences are and any pro tips here that I can share with others in future videos!
      Legal disclaimer: I am not a legal professional and would recommend seeking legal help.

      Hi Heather! Thanks for your reply. I would definitely tune in for that video! I have so many questions swirling in my mind now - like should I become an LLC and get liability insurance even if I just do hoodies and t-shirts 😫. I really want to do this and have been working for a couple months toward opening a shop, but hadn’t thought of any of this until the candle videos triggered all these concerns for me.

    Are these candles actually selling though? That price point is insane af for a 9oz candle. I used to make candles & it did NOT cost that much to make them including the jars & labels & you know these companies are hella buying the supplies in bulk, something I couldn't afford and it still only cost about $3 for me to make 8oz candle.

      Sorry to hear that candles didn't work out for your shop! I began selling candles in my shop last year and saw some good sales per month with them. There are definitely so many niches to go into and it's a phrase-dependent type of product market. The more creative/punny, the more sales I've found with my own shop. I've had a lot of clients in my programs sell candles as well and have great luck with them. I've found the designs that sell on candles are great to put on mugs as well so if candles do not work out, maybe mugs could be another opportunity for your shop! Best of wishes and thanks for watching❤️

      @@itsheatherstudio I think her complaint wasn’t so much that candles didn’t work, it was that she didn’t have any visitors to her shop. It doesn’t matter how good or bad your items are if no one ever sees them. I am not a user of Etsy, so I don’t know how people find your items or store. If it’s like eBay or Amazon anyone can find it but new sellers are so far down on the list it could be why no one sees her store.

    • @itsheatherstudio
      @itsheatherstudio  Před 4 měsíci

      Hey there! I like using a mix of keywords rankings- those being high competition and also high search volume mixed with lower competition keywords. I’m in the midst of doing a training on my methods but I like to do the high competition and also lower competition keywords in order to ‘diversify’ my reach so-to-speak. Ive had listings get pulled up in search by ranking for lower competition keyword phrases that have helped pull up the ranking on the higher competition phrases. I’ve found the diversifying methods work and tend in helping to break through the competition. There’s more to this than just that though and it’s a future video idea I may make to further explain my method to the madness. Hopefully this makes sense and helps a bit!
