My love Conchita, thank you for being SO sincere and honest with us, for trusting us, for opening your thoughts, but the one thing I wanna say now - that you can be even more sincere, honest and deep in your music and songs. And in my humble opinion you don't need such 'tough' interviews, you don't have to explain something at all, seriously! You just should be who you want to be, enjoy it - and show us it in everything you do! We need no words or explanations, we will feel without words when you are happy, when you follow your own way, when it is really YOURS! Because if it's really YOURS - you will shine brighter than any Golden Conchita, you will be Diamond Conchita, you will always stay Goddess, even being edgier, in more casual outfits, looking different - and you will dazzle and drive us crazy! And that's what I wish for! I want to see you singing and shining on stage, I want to see you happy and feel your delight and happiness in the air!
But in this interview you hardly looked happy, to be honest. I'm sorry, I don't know how to describe, I just looked into your eyes and I felt worried, sad, uncomfortable, even though you said everything right. I understand and accept everything you say, but you know, tough questions for you turn out to be even more tough watching for me. And I don't like this feeling... :( There is enough topics in this world that you have to discuss without smile, and no need to create one more from a friendly conversation with your own fans, where you could relax, have fun and smile every single second. In such moments I just ask myself - WHY is it necessary to make you answer something hard instead of just letting you fly, dream, create, sing, love, fascinate, radiate joy and answer all the questions through this?
I know that you can enjoy life like nobody else, and it's so inspiring - then just do it! Show us your real spirit in all its depth, your breathtaking beauty in all its bloom, your amazing talent in everything you do, your unique personality how you want it to be! Make everyone forget about Old Conchita, because New Conchita is much more fantastic and powerful! Make the hair on your chest disappear for people who don't like it because they literally will forget everything in your engrossing fire! You can do it, YOU CAN! And your main power is music, so sing, sing, sing! Make concerts, tours, perform wherever you can, sing us via Instagram or Facebook, show us drafts of your new songs, perform covers from the 'Golden Collection' of the world hits, but don't leave us without your music! Your voice is a pure magic like the voice of Little Mermaid... :) Never forget about it! You have a gift from Above, and maybe your main responsibility is to share it with people, to light up their lives with your music always!
I would love to watch more conversations with you, but may they be more pleasant for you! And please, don't waste your energy and time for hard interviews on tough topics, because you have much more impressive arguments in your creativity, and you just need to use them in all fullness! Dear Conchita / Tom - thank you for an honest and thoughtful interview. I must tell you a little story: In March I was in Sydney to see you perform at the Sydney Opera House and by coincidence, I saw you on a street in Sydney as Tom, without a wig, false eyelashes - and so one - just Tom hanging out with friends. So far so good - but my problem was that every time I subsequently saw you on TV or act in some context - I could only see Tom - at the time I wished that I had never seen you privately. I felt that I had lost my Conchita ... with all her glamour - beautiful dresses - perfect makeup. Until then I had only seen a bearded lady - a drag queen and never thought so much of the person in this character .But to see you privately was an eye opener for me.
And fortunately as time went on - I discovered that in fact I had seen the real person behind Conchita. I suddenly realized that there was so much more in you than just being Conchita. No matter how much work you put into the figure Conchita - you can't - as I see it - keep everything back which is also in Tom. So this interview made me understand why you want to change Conchita - perhaps in a new direction. I'll give you a quote by the Danish philosopher Soren Kirkegaard: "To dare is like losing your footing for a short while - not to dare is to lose yourself"
Do whatever you want to have a happy life and do not hold anything back - I'm sure your fans will understand. I do.
Marianne Nygaard I can understand that you felt that you lost conchita. Yes it must have been like waking up out of a wonderful dream and facing reality again. Maybe sometimes an illusion helps us to take our lives easier , to live in a bubble. Conchita is also like a bubble. She is a bit a figure out of a fairy- tale. Yes but she's also a very normal person like you and me. And if you take a deeper look at it it's actually wonderful that conchita is in her soul as normal as we are. She's just one of us - and we are like her. I am so excited about what the future conchita will experience. And she will take us with her on her journey ! ☺️❤️

Hi Tom, loved interview. I will be 74 years old in May. Started watching your videos on CZcams several weeks ago. I am so happy to see your transition from wings and all that goes with it. Fascinated by both but feel your performances have a new edgy quality. You seem very happy. I'm not gay but still love watching you sing. I love the way you look now more than after eurovision... The golden Conchita is a brand. Why do you think it was the peak for her? She would always surprise people by her beauty and personality. You were more beautiful than real women, that's why your fans have fallen in love with you. You as a glamorous diva could achieve much more than as an ordinary guy with an androgynous look..

I understand your point. But I think, she´s on a briliant way, focusing more on songwriting and singing than on her look! :-) Of course it´s the whole package, but as long she´s happy, her fans will be as well - especially when they get to hear some awesome new music!!! :-)
Thank you Conchita - Tom - and André for this insightful interview. You gave us unstoppables so much to think about. You talk so wisely, clearly you have weighed your thoughts and analysed your artistic life deeply. Several points were very thoughtprovoking to me: I always wondered how you could cope with that brutal rhythm after your ESC win! Really, I was afraid back then that you would burn yourself out, I mean those endless interviews in sophisticated drag (tucked and all). I understand completely why you would not want to do that anymore. But I never noticed that you were bitchy as you said. Sometimes you looked a little tired and my heart went out for you. Another thing; the fact that you are not proud of yourself brings tears to my eyes. Have you misunderstood that concept maybe; because being proud of yourself is not the same as being selfish and arrogant, it is more like being satisfied with yourself, approving and respecting yourself - loving yourself. Clearly you still do not completely understand how much you and your art mean to many of us. To say that you were not the best singer at the ESC 14 is rubbish, because you were! And the best interpretation was yours, have no doubt about it. I have so much to say but I'll stop for now. I love you.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts so openly with us (you seem to have done a lot of thinking over the summer 😊). But you don't need to justify yourself for anything you do. You have to be happy, you have to feel comfortable, that's what counts. I loved 17-year-old Tom, I love Conchita, and I would love any other personality you wanted to be, because I love your character and inner beauty ❤️ People who criticise your change of appearance fancy an image, not you as the person you are.
As for Eurovision, you won the contest by winning the hearts of millions. That's something you can be proud of (well, #theunstoppables are megaproud of you anyway 😍). It's not an effort, it's a gift. And it's the only way of changing something.

Very interesting.
I saw Conchita beginning to change quite significantly at the beginning of this year, and I must admit to being concerned about where that would end.
For me, Conchita was such a unique character, not primarily because of the look, but because of her decency, politeness, manners and message.
There are plenty of singers who behave badly, and don't have anything meaningful to say, and Conchita was so different.
Since ESC 2014, those of us watching from the outside have been on an entertaining journey, and it's a huge tribute to Tom as a drag performer that some fans are nervous of losing the Conchita they've come to love. I'm sure it's this nervousness which leads to so much concern and comment about 'her look'.
At the end of the day, Tom gave us Conchita, and he must present her as he wishes, and if fans fall by the wayside, so be it.
He is only obliged to please himself!

I'm always happy to watch your interviews, and you've frequently said how much you like to talk, but wasn't this a little too personal?
It looked difficult (or is it just my overly developed need for privacy which makes me slightly uncomfortable).
If you were happy to do it, that's fine, but this year has seen less smiles and you shouldn't have to bare your soul to strangers.
We just want you (Tom) to be happy!

Personally I just loved this episode, this new kind of interview, and I'd love to watch more of things like that. It's very important and interesting for me to learn more about what you actually think and feel about yourself and your character. But somehow it looked like it was kind of tough for you to talk about this. So, you asked our opinion - I adore your honesty and your deep thoughts, it makes you even more inspiring in my eyes, but if it's hard for you or you feel uncomfortable during these interviews, I believe we all can happily live without such videos. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Anyway, thank you and André for this video! It touches my heart that you're trying to be closer to your fans and create more and more new amazing things!

We're happy that you have gotten rid of things that caused you pain, like corsets etc. We just want you to be happy, that's all. We love the bearded lady but most of all we love who you are inside. And of course you were the best in Eurovision, that's why we all voted for you, that's why you won. :)
We know for a fact that there are so many fans from teenagers to grandmothers who you're so important to, and who you've helped so much in their lives, in ways you can't even imagine. Anyone with some extra money can build schools, but very few people can do what you do, be as special and unique as you are, and interprete music as you do, in fact we know only one :)

Liebe Conchita, lieber Tom... Du willst also keine Frau mehr auf der Bühne darstellen, hab ich das richtig verstanden? Mir ist das auch egal, weißt du. Denn ich höre dich sehr gerne singen, das ist die Hauptsache. Mir war das schon klar, dass das irgendwann kommt, dass du dich weiterentwickeln willst, das gehört zu dir einfach dazu. Ich brauche keine Diva, obwohl du die natürlich unglaublich gut drauf hast! Ich habe dir immer ins Herz geschaut und nicht nur in dein wunderschönes Gesicht. Du solltest allerdings nicht so viele selbstzweifel haben, du musst mal mit was zufrieden sein können. Glück gehört immer dazu wenn man erfolgreich werden will. Dieses Glück war dir beim ESC hold!! Nimm es an und freue dich einfach darüber und spiele deinen Auftritt damals nicht herunter, von wegen hätte besser sein können... Es war so wunderschön. Es ist für mich zu einer Hymne geworden. Du hast so viel Talent und ich freue mich auf alles, was noch kommt. Bleibe einfach du wie du dich fühlst und sei glücklich.
Jetzt auch ganz ehrlich und direkt gesagt, mich haben in meinem ganzen Leben (und ich bin fast doppelt so alt wie du) nur eine Handvoll Menschen in ihrer Gesamtheit nachhaltig gleichzeitig
beeindruckt, berührt, fasziniert, inspiriert und sich einen Platz in meinem Herzen gesichert - und einer davon bist Du! Dabei kenne ich DICH im Gegensatz zu den anderen Personen gar nicht, wobei das ja wiederum auch nicht stimmt - ich habe ein Bild von dir und damit meine ich jetzt nicht eines der zahllosen Fotos, die von dir im Umlauf sind, sondern eine Vorstellung. Um nicht
missverstanden zu werden, die Liste derer, die ich im Laufe meines Lebens für irgendetwas bewundert habe, ist natürlich viel länger, (angefangen von Martin Luther King, den Geschwistern Scholl, Viktor Frankl, und, und, und ... bis hin zu in der Öffentlichkeit unbekannten Menschen und Berufsgruppen wie Krankenschwestern, die ihren Job mit Liebe & Respekt ausüben) ebenso jene meiner Freunde, die ich sehr gerne habe und den Grund dafür oft gar nicht mehr weiß, aber dieser oben genannte Mix aus Bewunderung, Faszination, Inspirationsquelle, Berührt-Sein ist auch ausnehmend selten für mich. Das obige Interview gehört für mich zu den besten, die ich von dir je gehört habe und Sprache & Körpersprache im Einklang tun ihr übriges. Den ESC hast du mMn mit deiner Personality gewonnen. Inzwischen berührt mich total, wie du Musikalität umsetzt und ganzkörperlich interpretierst (abgesehen von einer beachtlichen stimmlichen Weiterentwicklung), zu ESC-Zeiten war es vordergründig nicht deine Singstimme sondern deine Persönlichkeit (die sich in vielen Interviews zeigte), die meine Aufmerksamkeit erregte und seither nicht mehr losließ. (Tom bei Starmania war mir angenehm aufgefallen, aber nicht stark genug, um den Karriereweg weiter zu verfolgen und die laute, trashige Conchita war mir "wurst", manchmal lustig aber dann auch nervig) In meinen Augen hast du seit ESC2014 (seit ich das verfolge) als Kunstfigur viel weniger ein anderes/zweites "Bühnengesicht und -verhalten" in der Öffentlichkeit als wohl die allermeisten anderen Nicht-Kunstfiguren, obwohl sich das von der Optik her andersrum verhält! Diesem absoluten Zu-dir-Stehen, dieser glaubhaften Authentizität ist mMn auch ein (Gut)teil deiner Faszination geschuldet. Die "goldene Conchita" war hinreißend, für mich ist der Tom´sche Teil, der jetzt in den Vordergrund drängt, ob seiner noch größeren Authentizität (in Optik, Gestik, Körpersprache) und so ziemlich ohne jegliche Ungekünsteltheit noch attraktiver - wobei das aber eh "wurst" ist. Du bist optisch immer schön, egal wie du aussiehst, aber das Besondere ist wohl eindeutig, dass dein Innenleben deiner äußeren Schönheit in nichts nachsteht. Mir hat die Vorstellung mit den damit verbundenen Schmerzen für die perfekte weibliche Illusion (wenn es keine Einmalaktion ist) noch nie besonders behagt und ich mag es, wenn ich das gute Gefühl haben kann, dass das was mir so gefällt zum An- und Mitschauen beim öffentlichen Leben, beim anderen nicht mit Schmerzen und Unannehmlichkeiten verbunden ist. Eine (eh nicht so unbekannte) Aussage von dir hier, die mich richtig glücklich macht, ist: "Ich will für den Rest meines Lebens Musik machen!" Und ich will dir für den Rest meines Lebens dabei zuhören und unbedingt auch zuschauen dürfen. Ob in winzigen Locations (selbstsüchtigerweise!), Clubs, bei TV- und anderen öffentl.Auftritten oder in großen Hallen.
Keine Ahnung, warum aus simplen Bindestrichen hier ganze Zeilen durchgestrichen sind. Bitte nicht beachten!

Als ein weiteres Thema für die Interviews würde mich sehr interessieren, welchen Stellenwert deine Fans für dich haben, wie du diese leidenschaftliche Bewunderung, Treue und Fanliebe empfindest, welche positiven bzw ev auch negativen Erfahrungen du im Verlauf deiner bisherigen Karriere damit gemacht hast und ob dir das manchmal auch zuviel wird oder Angst macht. Wäre auch sehr interessant, den Vergleich zu ziehen zwischen Tom/Starmania und Conchita/heute. Danke!!! 😘😘😘

I'm crying... Three years ago I fallen in love with this girl. I know, it's silly to fall in love with an Illusion. But I believed her, when she said that Conchita is a part of her... She was everything for me, and now I feel pain. I miss my girl..
Loved this interview! I had this feeling for quite a while now that the male/Tom side of Conchita wants to come through, or rather that Tom and Conchita blended in together more and more. I personally find this androgynie very interesting, but I also wouldn't mind to see more of Tom, or maybe even another new character. Like Conchita says, the only constant thing in life is change and I agree with her that Conchitas peek was during the Eurovision time. Whatever she will decide to do or not do anymore, I'm looking forward to it.

The last days I was reflecting on your words and there`s something I wanna say: That you were the best at ESC is a fact. We all recognized that your talent is outstanding like everything about you. Also your voice and your look were already outstanding at that time - even though since your winning you improved them in an absolutely fabulous way. My mother is a classical singing teacher and from Eurovision times on she´s a really big fan of you. Together we went to your concert in Berlin on Mother`s Day and after that she was grumbling about her students, they should come and learn some things from you. I guess what you would say now...and we Unstoppables love you for your humility as well. But as Sirkka Laitinen wrote: being proud of yourself is not the same as being selfish. I am so damned proud of you!!! I´m proud of you ´cause of this video, too, proud of your forthrightness. I´m nearly at your age and if I imagine there were so many expectations about my person, how I would have to look like and to behave for the rest of my life, I would also feel restricted. To disappoint perhaps some of the people who like us is much harder then to say we don´t care about people who don´t like us. But losing yourself is even the hardest. You´ve got such a good sentiment and intuition for what workes and in every way. You can trust on this furthermore. So feel free, beautiful firebird, and spread your wings - sing, live and love. I love you.
Nora, thank you for quoting me. And I was in Berlin too! That was such a wonderful day, such an unforgettable concert at the Admiralspalast, to hear that voice I had loved since the first time I heard it, to hear that voice LIVE was almost too good to be true. I loved every second of that show. And her jokes and stories and her warmth towards us during the Fragerunde. She was so hilarious, warm and funny, oh I cannot describe how much I love and adore Conchita - and Tom inside her.
Dear Sirkka, I´m happy that we share these unbelievable memories. Every word you wrote makes me say: YES! Oh I will never forget this evening when we first met and Conchita was joking about my Samsung. :-D I was very excited, because I never saw her live before. And I can hardly explain what I felt when she entered the stage and sang the first few notes of "Where do I begin". Maybe it was like if my heart was jumping to the moon and back... Just like two hours later when another dream came true and I listened to "Rise like a Phoenix" live for the very first time... For me it was the best concert in my life so far! And when we came home I couldn`t stop asking myself: "Oh...my...god, ...did that really happen???" It did! We are so damned lucky to be on this planet at the same time like Conchita - and Tom inside her.
Nora, everything you say makes me say YES. :) Where do I begin was pure magic, I loved the arrangement, the sound of the band. And then the whole concert pure bliss. Rise Like A Phoenix; what can I say, I was stunned and gasping to hear it LIVE, at last! The last high note gave me such goosebumps, OH M.Y. G.O.D.!! I'll never forget that night. (And she hugged me, that was almost too much to bear, I was dazed for days, smiling to myself and walking into walls. ;) )
As I see, dear Sirkka, you`re a real unstoppable soulmate. And I got a crush on your last sentence... This is so cute! Because "walking into walls" describes it all...

I did fall for your look at the very beginning but it is your behaviour, your character that has made me STAY in love with you. And honestly speaking, I've enjoyed all of your interviews, gigs, full concerts....so far simply because I love you and the way you are. Your look can change in any way but my love for you WILL stay the same.

one of the basic meanings of drag is to express the freedom of being yourself whatever that may be. you don't have to be cinched and tucked and gowned. or if you are all that, you don't have to be beardless or completely hairless. i feel like now is a time when more and more people realise that they can be whatever they feel like being and that looks are something completely open for interpretation and something that we should indeed play with and not stick to rules. perfection means not being a certain type of whatever. true perfection can only be achieved when you allow yourself to completely be yourself, when you do it the way you feel it. your own category, one of a kind.
