Excellent video! Having had my 2003 F150 XL since it was new, I never thought a cabin air filter could be installed. So after 260K miles, it now has one. Just as the video shows, there is a plastic insert that can be cut out with a razor knife to give you full access to the ductwork AHEAD of the heater core in order to install the filter. A word of caution - be careful using the razor knife as the heater core sits immediately past the opening being cut out. The core could easily get stabbed with the knife if you're not careful. All in all, a good project to give you filtered outside (or recirculated) air! Thanks again for the video!
About to do this to my 2001 Lariat. Very helpful video. Thank you kindly sir.
Thank you! Very clear, smart and helpful.
Thank you so much for that tutorial. I had no idea there were such a thing as a cabin filter. What's next, blinker fluid!!
Worked great Sir.I used a dryer lent cleaner(brush)to clean inside where the coils are.
Thanks so much! This video helped me do the same modification on my 2000 Expedition.
Great!
Awesome video! I had bought a filter for my 99 f150 lariat and it did not have one from factory. Going to do this mod this weekend. I got a ATP brand FA-10 Premium filter made from coconut shell based activated carbon (helps eliminate odors).
thank you, it worked perfectly and now i’m gonna get an air filter 👍
Sweet I just did it to my 99 f150.. thanks for the help
I didn’t even know some vehicles didn’t have cabin air filters. I just ordered one not knowing I would have to modify. That’s so dumb!
Ford actually has a kit (Part# F65Z-18D477AA) intended to allow for the installation of a cabin air filter. Not sure how easy it is to find, but it exists. It includes a template to know exactly where to cut, and a bracket with corresponding screws that can be installed to hold the filter into place. The kit isn't a necessity since, as this video shows, if one knows where to cut, the filter will pretty much hold in place. But an official installation kit does exist. It'll fit first-generation Expeditions (97-02) as well as some F-150s (not sure of the model year range).
Where can I get that kit.?
@@santiagodavila1426 i cant find it.
What size cabin air filter? Think link is broken
@@MrAlternationbest bet is check a junkyard or the dealer
Great Video...Just what I needed.... Thank You!
Great video! Thank you! 👍😊
Thank you for watching
Thank you sir going to see if mine has that option 😎
Thanks for the video even though it's over a year old. I like your humor as well. Super awesome video thank you again. 1999 f150 base model 5.4 long bed I have w/ 249k miles 2nd owner but been in family since it drove off the show room floor. Grandpa & grandma owned it first. May they rest in peace. Thank you again.
You are welcome! I still have it and its still going strong. Your Grandparents had great taste.
@THE NEXT ADVENTURE I still have mine as well. Awesome truck it's been.
Going to be doing this to my 02 lightning thanks!
Great video - I’m doing this on my “Margaret”. 2003 XL F150
I tried this on my bicycle. I must of did something wrong because it doesn't have a dashboard. It bursted into flames and burnt half of the trailerpark down. Now my parole officer is looking for me as well as the fire chief. Thanks man!
I just purchased a F250LD and I will do this Mod. Thanks !!!!!
Awesome Video!
Great video, thanks
Great idea. Thank you.
You bet!
Thank you so much 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great job my friend!
THANK YOU !
Great video bro keep dat Ford on da road💯
Oh yeah!
Thank you so much 🤝
Man I Love Ur Truck
Wow this helps bro
Did this and a good amount of air was blowing past. Have to forcibly press the filter up to get it to not blow past... May have to bend a little bit of steel and make a bracket with the screw holes nearby
Thanks for that I am just wondering, what is wrong with my truck I don't see the place where the filter goes
thank you
Good video
Just did mine on my 97 F150. Had to clean the coils before putting the filter. I used a hose and pressured wash the coils that are inside where the filter goes, facing the cabin. Now it blows more air.
Washing the coils was a great idea. Congratulations! Enjoy the "COOL" summer
can you send me a picture of what hose you blew water into please. thank you.
Funny asf reading some of these comments unexpected bonus .
I know this video is about 2 years old and most replies 1 yr old. My 1997 5.4L XLT just flipped 420,000 miles. I bought used in 1998 with 90,000 miles on it. My truck air seems fine, no smell. I have a urge to change the filter and now learn it may not have one?! Thanks for the video.
Mine is 23 years old. Hoping it has a crusty old filter in there, but this will work.
Dudes goofy as shit lmao love the vid man
Thaks bro
Used this video and worked great. Cut out the insert with a power cutting tool. Note: Lots of trash was in the plenum. I used a small brush to scrub inside and leaves and dead bugs fell out.
Thats Awesome!
Good video but if you never had a filter the evaporator core probably needs to be cleaned after sucking in 18 years worth of dirt!
Weird but we never know thanks alot
Thanks for doing this video! Quick question: doesn't this cause the water from the AC evaporator to leak all over the floor? If not, where does the water go?
I have not had that issue.
Of course not only air flowing through this compartment .
@@fishfire_2999 I believe he was asking about condensation dripping from these evaporator coils.
@@wittydisplayname1761Ah yes live and learn ,i put a screw through one mounting a small amp under a dash 30 years ago middle of summer in Florida. Not one of my best memories .
@@fishfire_2999 Ouch!
I wonder if this will work on the f 250...
We get it, you got a good credit score
Just saw your video and it explained alot when I went to the cabin filter and there was no spot. Lol. I have that smell that begs to have one installed. What was Ford thinking not installing the hole? 😅
They were saving themselves some money.
Interesting I’m gonna look I’ve had my 2003 for 5 years now , never new there was a filter.
So it doesn’t come with an air filter but you can install one if you one ? Since you have to cut and do all that I assume that didn’t come with factory air filter???
You are correct; From the factory there was no filter.
Can you post a link to the air filter?
Update on my install - I have taken my box knife - new blade -cut -cut - cut - no go saw zall. No no no - grinder wheel , NO DONT USE - ha ha. Plastic welder just made holes BUT. I HAVENT GAVE UP
I have a 2000 Ford F-150 XLT Extended cab with 123K miles. No rust, best Ford motor, 4.6L , 2 valve. Since you have over 285K, have you ever replaced your fuel pump? I like the idea of a cabin air filter, but to me if it was an option by Ford, you shouldn't have to go thru all you did to modify it. I question whether it was an option by Ford. Remember early cabin filters started by being placed below the cowling (the plastic vent between your hood and windshield. If it was an option, I would think that would be the location. My truck has a musky smell when A/C is first turned. I'm looking at CZcams videos for solutions. Thank You
Thanks for the comment. I have never replaced the Fuel pump (I have to knock on wood now). I had the same smell, but after having the filter for a month now its seems to be gone. When I first put the filter in after cutting the hole for it leafs and things fell out of it, I am sure this is your issue also. GOOD LUCK!
Ford has a kit to install the filter in the location he installed it in.
How big is the air filter?
😂😂😂 Changing my wife cabin air filter also. 1999 😂👍 in 2020. Not sure of mileage speedometer broke at 400,000 miles. 2nd engine and trans
Why did my mouth actually start to water when seeing it😂
Love your name!!!!!
Did you notice a reduction in your air flow after installing the filter?
I did not. It seems to be great!
What size filter? Link is broken.

Do you hear it blowing by the filter housing?
I have not listened for it, but the first filter change showed the filter was dirty.
His wrench looked a lot like a pair of chan locks ..😮...
Here in 2024...was it worth it? Does it comtinue to smell good?
I sold the truck a year ago. It seemed to help.
Does this work on a 2009 Ford Ranger?
I have no idea. Sorry and good luck.
What filter did you use ?
Not sure. I got it off Amazon and I put it somewhere in the video
Man I need some pointers. I can’t get the damn filter to slide in there. It’s getting hung up somewhere. So frustrating.
I had the same issue st first. I just had to make the hole a little bigger. Hope this helps
Take your time, work it in back n forth
I did the same to my 02 f250, not for an air filter but a place to hide my drugs.
😂
Thank you now it's time for you to fix those crusty leather seats keep the wife happy
I do need some good seat covers :-)
sorry to break it to you but thats NOT what it looks like with trucks without the option, you had the option, it just wasnt already in there, you couldve used an actual filter, which i bough but figured out i couldnt use lol
i do not have anything that looks like that, just some crappy insulation essentially or cheap cotton filter stuffed in an open space
4 hours later. 🤪
Jesus H Christ, the first two videos I watch on this the camera is pointed nowhere near where he’s cutting.
Part #?
Premium Guard PC5384 is what I used but other brands will surely work. I ordered it through Amazon. Good Luck!

Idk if it was worth all that damage just to replace an air filter for your lady. Not that anyone's gonna notice the difference down there by the passenger side. Hopefully shes a keeper bro kudos to you though. Happy wife happy life lol
But who the fk design this not to put in a cabin air filter 😒
Lol.... why bother. Some guys here seem terified of their wives.
The wife doesn’t know that an air filters to be replaced ,really not a need for a filter.😆😆
Talking way too much... Just shut up and get to the point.
