I hope you will check out the other performances from this concert with BTS or even watch the whole concert, it's such a fun concert to watch. I believe BTS performed like 7 songs with him. Yes, Seo Taiji is 50 now and he was 45 in this performance. One of Seo Taiji's songs was actually in the 90's movie 3 Ninjas Kick Back (he performs it with RM and Suga during this concert). I watched this concert for the first time last year and I knew I recognized one of the songs. Who knew I was exposed to kpop for the first time as a young kid in the US during the 90's.

Read many comments, some of them said that the choreo was similar as the original band video from many years ago (20 years ago or so!!!) there is also a video on the backstage of the concert... really cuteeeeee, and BTS rendition on Come back home...... a song from Taeji.... Enjoy!!!!!!

Taeji is a songwriter who writes all songs(+lyrics) for his album. Although he had debuted as a dance group with other two members, his origin is more like rock-based. He was the youngest base guitarist of the greatest Korean rock band before his debut. And since his debut as Taeji boys, he was a sensational of K-pop in 90’s. Taeji is a pioneer and it is really meaningful to have him and BTS on stage together!

Before the emergence of Seo Taiji in the 90s, the Korean music industry was completely disconnected from the present to the point where there was almost no connection. Then, with the emergence of Seo Taiji in the 1990s, and the emergence of several great artists one after another, the K-pop we know was finally born.

Thanks so much for adding the pronunciation. I always think the transliteration for Hangul is sometimes awful - eo being one of the worst. It's not easy to be precise with defining a short "O" in romanised letters though - I tend to describe it as "o" and in an English accent "on" or "from" as opposed to low or flow, but that can fall into a trough of confusion in an American mouth! 😂. If you bear in mind that Seoul is made up of eo and oo,(and actually should be pronounced with two vowels, maybe that can help ... but it's just one of my niggles, sorry

to be honest, at first, I only planned to watch the performances where Seo Taiji was with the boys....but after a while I got really into his songs and was impressed with how he performs! I mean he's like BTS himself! he can dance, sing, rap, play guitar and groooowl!! I ended up watching his 2 hours+ concert in full! he's amazing, and it this age??!! c'mon! you'll be mesmerized with how good his vocals are when he sings his melodic songs / love songs, then get hyped with his rap songs and THEN get blown away when he performs his face melting metal / rock songs!!! like I've never seen such a diverse artist like him other than BTS! so I really do think that he is THE GODFATHER of KPOP, I mean if he were the same age as the current Kpop groups, I would even dare to say that he would be at par with BTS in terms of talent, musicality, fanbase and stage presence. Aaaaaaand just like BTS, his songs are also very deep with lots of realism against socio economic situations and messages of loving yourself and standing up against oppression. So yeah, hope you react to the other performances with BTS and maybe even watch the whole concert at your own time :)

Seo Taiji and The Boys are considered the pioneers of Kpop. In Korea Seo Taiji is called Cultural President.
That concert was in 2017 celebrating the 25th anniversary of Seo Taiji and the boys' debut; he invited some artists to share the stage with him in 2 songs each. Months before, as a tribute, BTS made a cover of one of their songs, which earned them to be invited and participate in 8 songs.
The good interaction between them and how well Seo Taiji expressed himself about BTS, was seen as the postage pass as kpop icons (and it was fulfilled).
    I share some links:

I‘m a Korean born and raised in Europe and heard Seo Taiji and Boys when I visited the family in Korea in the early 90s! I think I was 11 back 😅then.
For Korea they were the „backstreet boys“ but soooo much more advanced. I made sure to get every new album send overseas (albums: Seo Taiji and boys I-IV) and with every album they got crazier and wilder. It was like the perfect mix of pop, Beastie boys, Cypress Hill and rock music. They matched perfectly to my developing Grunge, Punk, Metal taste when I grew up in my teenage days.

That was his band 25th anniversary. Taiji was like JK, the maknae of the band. I watched an old video and, it's awesome, BTS is dancing like the backdancers did in the past!!!
They have a lot more of performances together in this concert... Comeback Home here is legendary!!! Please, react to more!!

    Saow Taeijee
is how I believe his name is pronounced. Like a lot of Korean letter sounds the actual pronunciation is somewhere in the middle of English letter sounds.
So for instance Saow (as a phonetic spelling) would be with pronunciation of the (a) and the (o) as one vowel sound that is partway in between. Taei would be like the first syllable in Taehyung but with a slight short i sound blended into the vowel at the end. And the final syllable pronounced with a long ee sound like in the word see.
I hope that made sense. It’s hard to explain Korean letter sounds because they are often a blend of our own letter sounds.

Seo Taiji was basist of top rock band when he was 17-18 and band age was finished. Management doesn't make rock album anymore. So he made black sound for his 1st album then put rock sound for 2nd album, bit more for 3rd. fight for rivial of rock age, this is the origin of Kpop sound. Bad thing is he was totaly new for black music so he needed to bring source from somewhere, that makes many argues.

Before becoming an idol, seo was the bas guitarist of a metal band, which was one of the legendary in korean rock history.
When he started as an idol, he couldn't put that influence right out to the audience. But later, because he was so famous and influential(even called as 'the president of culture'), he openly put metal sounds in his music. Experimental songs came out(hybrid of metal, traditional korean music, hiphop Etc.)

I had been meaning to suggest Seo Taiji as he sings metal amongst other genres. This was such a fun concert. Seo Taiji is the father of modern K-Pop. Before him songs were censored before they could be issued. Taiji was 45 when he did this concert. He’s 50 now. Reading about his life is very interesting. There’s a behind the scenes of them getting ready for this. BTS were in awe of him and thrilled to be working with him. They didn’t know what to call him to be polite. They had so much fun.
