    remarkably good footage:11.14 for foxy hiding under the wall while hounds go over the top of him, and then doubling back. It would take a lifetime of untin and camera-work to catch a sight like that.

    Amazing footage capturing wonderfully unspoilt countryside and skill of the riders. Esp great to see ALL the women riding side saddle and jumping as well as the men (if not better!).

    Think the first horse ‘over’ the wall at around 2.20 was the inspiration for the tank! Demolished it and carried on. It’s knees must have ached that eve bless it! Am thinking this could be the Beaufort country!

    Docked tails, old fashioned hunt seat, ladies sidesaddle... Wow! And the beagles and other hunting dogs look quite different than the breeds today.
    And of course the property destruction and threat to life and limb of all concerned, hunting a native species to near extinction, it's SPORT!!

      Bcgrote--the reason the beagles look different from the breeds of today is that they are not beagles; they are English Foxhounds. The foxes are nowhere near extinction and are real problems to farmers, who invariably lose lambs, chickens, and other livestock to the vulpine predator at considerable monetary loss. You don't sound very informed, nor do the other critics I have listened to.

      @@kenken8765 The problem is, you using a bow and arrow or even a gun isn't natural. It doesn't let the stronger and healthier animals to survive. On the other hand, hunting with dogs allows the healthy foxes to survive, and the weaker ones be killed. Natural selection.

      Foxes are allowed to breed in Covers..Plus, if foxes get your chickens, your fences are clearly not fox-proof. {our Aunt kept horses and chickens and ducks...but her enclosures were such foxes couldn't get her birds. Plus they were checked every day. She died this year aged 101, and always said no excuse for foxes getting in to a hen enclosure, but it means putting effort in to making good strong fences, and shutting birds away in coops at dusk.

    Such bad seats those riders had going over jumps!! It's a testament to the horses that they could clear the jumps at all. Caprilli's forward seat must not have made it to England from Italy at that point.
    Some terrible riding on display, bumping down in the saddle whilst yanking on the horse's mouth, no doubt a lot of people weren't regulars. Things have improved since then. Have to say I really like the English hunt seat.

      They would have been regular..Beaufort is/was an expensive hunt to follow, and these people would have hunted regularly, but the forward seat is far, far better for a horse as it follows the movement far better than the oldskool style .

    Interesting to watch, but boy! I wonder what the locals thought of all the damaged fences and hedges! Were there rules about where these people could go, or did they just go anywhere the fox went?

      Then, as now they would have needed the permission of the landowners and would make good the fences. But this hunt is owned by the Duke of Beaufort who is also major local landowner so not likely to be a big deal.

    Perhaps it's jealousy.
    Do they condem all sports? The deer hunters, & rabbits, badger. Do they attack puppy mills. Or dog/bull/ cock fighting? Or jail pet owners abusing their pets. Or condem slaughter houses. These are horror chambers.
    Fact: so called sports people shooting an animal, only injuring it. To crawl off to die a slow painful death
    At least within seconds a fox is dead. Not slowly bleeding to death in pain.
    Ok let's outlaw all hunting. Then turn to humans killing each other. Where bleeding hearts side with the killer. Screw the victim.

      @@lindaross4331 The chicken owner is to blame...Our Aunt farmed and kept horses and chickens and had good, stout coops and secure free range runs for them. Of course foxes will kill, it is up to the chicken {or rabbit} owner to ensure the animals are safely kept. which means proper fencing angled at the top and that goes underground.

We know poultry owners have a responsibility towards their stock, so spare the highbrow lecture that detracts entirely from the point, shifts the blame to the poultry keeper, and once again fuels the illogic argument of fox protection and Disney style ethics. Foxes will also take numerous other stock including lambs, geese, ducks, piglets, even sheep, anything in their capability. And while we're at it, no I don't hunt, I care for animal welfare and I keep poultry, so please, no assumptions, I'm done with this.

      alan roberts my grandfather worked for the Duke of Beaufort, and the whole estate was created for the benefit of hunting, so the countryside you see in this footage is because of hunting. All damage would be repaired as it is done today.

      Whether you agree with (Fox hunting) or disagree, the truth of the matter is, Foxes wouldn't have been so numerous if it wasn't for hunting.The land has been shaped and designed with coverts planted for foxes and has benefited much of the countryside also. The Duke of Beaufort did more for hunting than any of the animal-rights organisations of animal -rights nutters have ever done. In fact the antis created a wonderful own goal due to everyman's hand againts foxes nowadays and especially using certain indiscriminate methods of control, i.e. Shooting, snaring, trapping and even the vileness of poisons. The true vandals of the countryside are the antis themselves.How wonderful they must feel!
