Shinko 700 Dual Sport Tires: First Impressions - Yamaha XT250

  • Hello Friends, The Shinko 700 Dual sport tires have been my favorite addition to the bike so far. The improved road performance has increased my confidence and allowed me to take the XT250 more places. Although I've lost a little of the gutless off-road experience, the change has been negligible, and I can still tear up gravel roads to my heart's content.
    I hope you enjoy, leave a comment below with your thoughts!

    I think I'll try these out. I've been running a 705 on the back for the last year but the TW80 Continental dual on the front is worn. (From the PO.) I need something good on pavement as the TW80's vibrated me to death at speed. I live on a gravel road and I really want something on the front that'll plant my KLR firmly. When the 705 wears out I might try a 700 there also. I'm mainly commuting on gravel 30% of the time and 70% on pavement (blacktop). Thanks for the review, you've tipped the balance into me wanting to try out the 700's.

    I've been super impressed with this tire on the rear. I have a CRF 450L and when I wore out my D606 I wanted to try something less aggressive for fun. Tried this tire as it was really cheap and it's been amazing which was a bit of a shock. I live in the desert next to Cascades and was expecting it not do well in certain areas but whether it was sand or snow and this tire performed much better the anticipated, sometimes I was quite surprised with the traction. With loose gravel, not great if you have to put power into it. Other then that, I would recommend it!
    On the front I have the MT21 which is also wearing out, not sure what I'll try there though probably the same.

      I've had them for about a year now and they've performed excellently in all road and weather conditions. Lots of versatility. I'll never go back to the knobby Kenda tires that were on before.

    Which kenda tires were you running before?

    How heavy are these tires when compared to stock?

      Sorry for the late reply, unfortunately I don't have a good answer for you. I bought this bike used after the owner had already swapped out the stock tires for a set of Kenda's. Most of the XT250s I've seen at the dealerships look like they're running Bridgestone TW301/302 tires with a tube in both wheels. To compare, the Shinko 700's have a thicker sidewall, the front tire is a quarter inch wider than stock, and in my case I'm not running a tube.
      All-in-all they're probably slightly heavier than stock, but I don't feel a difference in weight.

    The tyres are tubeless but surely the wheels aren’t? Or do you have a converter in the wheels?

    • @NattyRides
      @NattyRides  Před 10 měsíci +3

      The rear wheel is a tubeless spoked wheel stock from factory. "Tubeless" is stamped on the wheel itself. I beleive this is unique to Yamaha and the XT250 platform and that some options come with a tubeless front wheel as well.
      I'm not 100% certain that the front wheel of mine is tubeless but I've been running the same tires since this video went up and haven't dropped any pressure.

      Are you sure ? I’ve a tubeless rear on mine and it’s completely different. Mine comes from Japan and the spokes don’t go through the rim at all, there’s a centre rib where they attach. The only time I’ve come across a tubeless that looks like a conventional tyre is when there is a conversion kit fitted. I bet you have a tube in there.

      @@NattyRidesnot true the xt250 never came with tubeless wheels..the stock tires are tube type and the shinko 700 are tube type.. some one may have put the tubeliss system on it.. it's a budget air cooled bike and does not come tubeless wheels ever

      Tires matters for even small bikes lile the XT. Aggressive knobbies on them can make riding above 45mpb terrifying on pavement and not enough knobbies can mean youll be laying her down often in sand. I know because i have this bike.

    • @NattyRides
      @NattyRides  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The old kendas on this bike were great for the mountain trails but horrible for the highway. I think these shinkos have a good balance of both. No more wobbles at 55mph... or at all.

    • @BlackwaterAquatics
      @BlackwaterAquatics Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@NattyRides are you refering to kenda 270? Iafter i remove the deathwings i put on the tusk dsport and i was ripping down the trails at 25-35 mph pure FUN! Then i took it on pavement and took a corner at 45mph a i had the wobble mid corner and it gave me the shitter. Now i have the shinko 244 on the front and tusk dsport on the rear and the mid corner wobbles are gone but i do get slight wobbles above 65mph if i dont lean forward and press down on my handle bars. Im doing alot more road riding now and i regret not getting these shinko 700s

    • @NattyRides
      @NattyRides  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The Kenda 270's are the ones. Not much better than the "deathwings" as they're called when it comes to road riding. At the time of making this video I lived off of a forest service road, now I live next to a hwy and need the extra street performance. Dont get me wrong, the kenda's kicked ass on those backroads, but the pucker factor on street put myself and others at risk. Hope you find a set a tires that work for you, Thanks for watching!
