Just like any tourist trap town. They get too expensive for the locals to actually live there.
If all the locals moved out or quit their jobs the remotes couldn’t live there because they won’t work and couldn’t afford their overpriced houses on local pay rates. End sarcasm.
Why are you showing Mt Shuksan to be close to Chelan ? It’s a 5 hours drive !!! That is not anywhere close!
My granny lived on Pertemann Gulch road (near Echo Valley). Up until her death a few years ago, I spent my 40+ years of my life visiting her 60 acre home each summer and on holidays. I've seen Chelan transform from a sleepy town in the 80's to an overpriced playground for the wealthy. It's been sad and nostalgic watching this happen. I loved that area. I miss Judy Jane's Bakery, now a Starbucks, go figure.
Thanks for your story, Pertemann Gluch is a cool area. Thanks for watching and the comment!
i remember Judy Janes!!!
The downtown historic group and chamber of commerce focus only on tourism at the cost of regular folks. Not much money is returned to the residents, who are getting priced out of the home and job markets. I wrote about this over 10 years ago. The fact is, if you didn't own property before about 2005 or so, you can't afford to live there. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth, but like Vale, Aspen, and other resort cities, it has been taken over by the rich. And Washington's quest to be California just makes it worse.
Thanks you for watching and the comment. I have heard others compare Chelan to those areas.
Having lived in Chelan since 1994 I have to agree. For any one seeing this video let me assure you this lady is not exaggerating. It is 105 % outside right now today is sunday July 14 and the town is packed with tourists and we have been breathing lots of smoke from the fire 30 miles up lake since it started a month ago. Make sure you do your home work before you decide you want to live here.
Thank you for watching and the comment.
I grew up in Whitefish Montana. Tourism was the economy, and jobs paid low. Trades have done well, but it's filled up with wealthy outsider buying all the homes. My house that we bought in 1991 for $49K would sell now for $500K as a tear down.
This seem to be happening all over the world. With so much remote work, it's easier than ever to live where you want. Whitefish is a beautiful area.
The People Who BUY IT are the real PROBLEM, if those Selling Crap for half a million Dollars would NOT SELL ANYTHING - well, then they will KNOW that NO FOOL is going to just Give them MONEY for Crap.
Like I hear of England
@@LivinginNCW is there people talking on CB radios and HAM radios in that Lake Chelan area in Washington State ?
I lived in Whitefish in the 70’s. My teacher was Mrs. Paulus. It’s unrecognizable now.
Surrounded by 6000, nosy wine guzzlers? I'll pass 😂
But the people watching is so good! 😂
@@LivinginNCW lol 😆
wino's.
Washington may not have a state income tax but they tax everything else. Sales taxes, property taxes and taxes on just about anything else you want to do from painting your house to just putting up a fence
I feel like everywhere is like that these days. Too many taxes.
Worst of all, it's in Washington.
@@hardrockminer-50top state to live. Tops Forbes list.
Oregon is also like that very beautiful but they tax on everything and those who have moved here with more money have pushed the original ones out practically
@barbaramitch7818 True. I was born and raised in Oregon. I agree with what others have stated, it's going on everywhere. It's like someone open the floodgates.
Chelan used to be a beautiful place. Over the years with all the development it’s just not what it used to be
If you dont like tourists dont move to a tourist town. You have been warned.I lived at North Shore at Lake Tahoe In the 70s and 80s.Us locals would complain about them constantly even though they were are bread and butter.Cant have one without the other.
👆 so much truth here! 👆 I think its all about trying to keep balance. Thankfully Chelan has a cap on how many vacation rentals can be in the area. This really helps with housing for the locals.
Right.
I remember that ..
Cave Rock in the 80s..
TOURISTS!!!
FLAT LANDERS!!!
But my mother was a Cocktail Waitress for years,
So......
HAHAHA
Like you said, if you don't want tourist central, don't move there..
Tahoe Crazy now during holidays, but worth dealing with if you want what is there.
Tahoe is still worth living in if you can afford it, but requires strategy and timing to beat the madness
The first “scenery” picture is Mt. Shuksan up in Whatcom County. I stopped watching right then. What the heck?
I noticed that too. Chelan is on the east side of the state, Mt Shukstan is on the west. One is dry, the other wet.
I live in the Cle ELUM area can relate to a lot of the cons
I lived in Cle Elum 1997-2022, the places has definitely grown! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
I love Chelan and the outdoors, but public camping and outdoor access is the worst in the PNW. And the locals top Seattle for the cold shoulder towards outsiders.
Probably fed up with outsiders. Be honest; would you open up to a just got here short time transient as much as to real freinds that you've known for years, and will know for years? You don't know where they've been, and they'll likely be gone before you can get to know them, so why bother.
Not outsiders liberals😂
@@damonfoster3974 Naw, it's everyone
Chelan used to be a wonderful place to visit and live. Now it has been over run by people from Seattle and priced most residences out of home ownership. I saw a house there in 2000 for 48k that sold 4 years ago for 1.3 million.
There is definitely a housing boom. It reminds me of lake sammamish. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Most of the drinking crowds I saw in Late Chelan are fifty somethings acting like they are still 21.
You say that like it’s a bad thing
The " road around the lake"...id like to see that!! Haha..you can only get to the head of the lake 3 ways: boat in...hike in...take a small plane..i used to love Chelan...before the wineries and development and wildfires...
Thanks for watching and commenting. I guess I should have said the road around the bottom of the lake.
I spent quite a bit of time there - 1956 - very small town... My most vivid memory as a 9 year old boy is 6 or 8 drunk adults partying on the lakeside (my parents included). About 11pm they all decided to go skinny dipping. As they were all wasted and obnoxious, they ran off a board pier and into the dark water... totally irresponsible... one fat old woman screamed as she jumped off the pier and they all were laughing. She kept screaming because she had popped something in her knee and was screaming in pain... I watched as 3 naked guys carried her 200 pound slippery nude body out of the water and laid her on the grass. "Party's over people!" I just wanted to find an occupied bear's den that I could crawl into and hide - safe from all the embarrassment of my childhood. 🐻 No reflection on the community, but I've only been back once... to the casino.
Ah the memories
That sounds traumatic.
You can't unsee that!
What a story! Thanks for sharing.
Washington state has a SALES TAX, except on food. Chelan can absolutely count on wildfires in the summer. I wish Chelan and Manson had not filled up with weekenders. It was such a great place before.
Chelan is seeing the same downsides as all resort towns. The ability to work remotely, rising crime and prices in the cities, and growing numbers of retiring Boomers are increasing traffic, crowds, and running up housing costs.
I see the same thing across the nation from Cocoa Beach, FL to New Braunfels, TX to Coeur d'Alene/Sandpoint/Bonners Ferry, ID.
My first comment is "how can you do any piece on the north central Washington area and not mention it being the "Apple Capital of the World"; Yes grapes and wine has greatly increased in dominance in the Chelan Manson Valley but Apples is still the #1 dollar return for the area. By the way your first few seconds of video show my wife's father's property on the north end of Wapato Lake (that is not Lake Chelan). In addition your video shows Schuksan Lake with Mt Baker in the background (a far distance from Lake Chelan). My Grandfather bought my family's property from Wapato John in Manson(adjacent to Wapato Point) back in the early 1900's. My father and father in law as well as my wife and I (and our siblings)are all graduates of Manson High School more than 60 years ago. After High School I worked in the saw mill in Manson and then the US Forest Service before going on to college while our families worked in the local fruit industry. Both my Grandfather and Father-in-law were President of their respective Grower Co-Ops. I am not writing this to tell you about me, but to tell you that I believe that I have a perspective that new comers may possibly not have. The "old timers" did not come there for the lake (although an important aspect); but for the opportunity afforded them to plant, grow fruit trees and produce a good income for their families. The Manson Irrigation Project was in it's day one of the first of it's kind in the entire nation and monumental in scope. Then the Holden Copper mine was one of the richest in the country, The Manson Mill and Box factory employed hundreds. And yes the Apple/fruit industry is still the number one employer in the area. But most assuredly times have changed and for us old timers, not necessarily for the better. The home or property values that you mention are lake front or near lake front homes. There is an abundance of properties available off the water that can be had for great deal less. I would also take exception to the "harsh winters". The climate is a Four Season climate. Skiing has grown to be an important factor in the area. We have not had a winter in the area nearly as cold or snowy is we did 60-70 years ago. I took photos of the lake freezing over the winter of 1949-1950 and the Howe Sound Boat Company Barge had to run up and down the lake daily to break the ice so that the ore from the Holden mind could be brought to Chelan were it was trucked to Falls and put on rail cars. Tourism is very important to the area now, but don't feel offended if the growers and old timers are not quite as respectful to those tourists (the drunk and party goers that you refer to). Most people go to Lake Chelan to leave the "hustle and bustle" behind them. They like it so well that they decide to move there. Then when the "hustle and bustle - niceties" are not there; they complain!
A recreation activity you did not mention is the fact that this is a world class hang gliding site
Yes! Was I talking with you about this a business afterhours a few months ago?
Your City Council and Planning Department should take a lesson from Jackson Hole where tourism and seasonally empty second homes have made the town unaffordable for locals. Look for the recent article in The Atlantic about Jackson Hole.
Chelan still was a nice little town 40 years ago, when our family used to camp and hike in the area. After long years of absence, we revisted 2 years ago and found its charm almost totally obliterated by poorly regulated over-development. I've seen it happen to nice, formerly attractive tourist towns all over the West. Unfortunately, it's the way of things now. Once the money starts flowing, it's impossible to stop.
Colorado!
Exactly. Work from home high paying jobs have ruined nearly all small mountain towns.
I live in northbend its gotten horrible
Way to many yuppy seattle people..its not even fun like it used to be..the people ruined this slice of heaven
@leestamm3187 There is a lot of truth to that. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Don’t expect to earn a living there, bring your money with you. 🤷🏼♀️
It doesn't matter where you go, if it's beautiful and popular, then it's crowded e.g. Bend, Oregon (the smoke is worse, met ppl moving away bc smoke) . Maybe I missed it, but did you mention mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, and mountaineering? If I was rich I would live there. Cheers!
Good call-outs! Thank you.
Your picture at 14 was not a picture of Lake Chelan but of Artist Point near Mount Baker Ski Resort in The North Cascades North Unit. Lake Chelan is in the South Cascades Unit east side of Washington that is dry and hot not like the west side where Mount Shuksan is which was your second picture which is mild and a lot cooler. All these areas are beautiful though and I would not want to live anywhere else. I live on the west side and I like visiting the east side but yeah I wouldn't want to live there full time but it's better than Seattle.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing. A lot of your points sound very similar to our town, Homer AK. We're not dry or hot at all, but winter is challenging. Thanks for sharing.
This happens to any small town that has something something beautiful about it. The developer's start coming in and property goes nuts and it just destroys it.
Many of the photos are from nowhere near Chelan.
Very informative video - great job ! I went there a couple years ago for a golf vacation , and enjoyed it . I met a few different people ( separately ) , and each one of them ( from Seattle area ) , said they were investing in property to build on for investment purposes- ( rentals / b and bs’ ) . I can understand why locals would be frustrated with the growth . You should make this same video in Coeur d’Alene , Idaho . I’ve lived here going on 43 years , and growth has ruined the small town feel - overrun with transplants , and any piece of property available got snapped up by investors and developers.Us locals are getting priced out of here - mini version of Lake Tahoe , and the pay scale here is about 20% less than what Washington pays ( for the most part ) .
I have family who live close by and most were born and raised. Bonners Ferry and Newport.
I was born in Chelan, decades ago. Wish my parents never got rid of that tiny little bungalow where we lived.
Great Job! Thank you for all your information!
Pros and cons are so helpful to anyone contemplating making a move😎
I live in a nearby town. We are also losing our town and culture to a lot of wealthy outsiders. We are retired, soon we are going to have to consider moving because of ridiculously inflated property value. The traffic sucks without the relaxed attitude there used to be. Cars go by our house in what is marked a 35 mph zone at 50 and 60 mph. I hate to even go to the market anymore. These folks don’t realize they are ruining the things about this place that attracted them in the first place and driving up everyone’s cost of living substantially including their own. Some of the most beautiful trails are ruined by hundreds of people trying to park and hike at the same time. They leave poop and toilet paper etc., right next to the trail. Personally I’m rooting for a real pandemic with teeth this time around. Something’s got to give. There is an epidemic of people and it isn’t good.
If I were the police patrol officer I give tickets to those who violated the 35 mph and If they not obey the traffic rules and the law of Chelan they shouldn’t and not welcome to visit Chelan. Tourists should respect locals rules and regulations. And if you ask me how can we do it will hire more police patrol officers that focus on patrolling the community roads and hiway and other areas concerned. Chelan is a lovely place and needs respect.
Thanks for watching and commenting. On the property taxes - if you're over 61 you should ask the county for a discount or a freeze on the valuation.
I agree, Chelan is lovely! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I was turned off watching your video right after you showed Mt. Shuksan that isn’t even near Lake Chelan. The stock photos used were so distracting and irritating, I couldn’t even watch it.
Loved the ski video clip supposedly of Echo Valley. The hill in my backyard is steeper than Echo Valley. 😂
Her summation on the scenery and everything else was spot on.
@@Ken-wv2wg Really? Because Mount Shuksan is next to Baker. That's a good six hours from Chelan. It takes just as long to drive to Schweitzer in Sandpoint!
@@keithhunter3910 she describes the scenery, water, economics, people exactly how I see it. I don’t have my kids in the schools there but I’ve heard other parents speak well of the schools. I guess she didn’t personally take those pictures but her description of Chelan scenery is spot on.
I thought that background looked familiar... Definitely not from Chelan😂
Cost of Electricity is VERY low due to PUDs low rates.
Spending a week at Campbell's on Lake Chelan every summer has been a family tradition since well before I came along in '78. Obviously we love the area, so naturally we began talking about the idea of buying a vacation place over there. It was fairly serious at first, but after weighing the pros and cons, we decided it needed to continue on as the special place that we always look forward to going to, to escape the norm. With politics being what they're like in WA these days, purchasing property or a vacation home the Coeur d'Alene area is looking very attractive!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Except for the weather ditto for Sequim.
I was raised on the Eastside,M.I.,I moved back to WA.four years ago,for a long list of reasons,Im now rethinking it.
Ummmm. Some of your images are nowhere near Lake Chelan.
The first photo you showed of "stunning beauty" is Mt. Shuksan near Mt Baker about 35 minutes from my house. Why did you choose that for Lake Chelan?
It's just a stock photo of the cascade mountains. The north side of lake chelan is the North Cascades National Park. Funny enough it gets a lot of comments.
Have to agree that if you’re going to do a piece on a certain location, show some integrity in your work by featuring those locational features. That’s just laziness and disingenuous. Admittedly, I liked your article, just not your photo selections.
@@LivinginNCWDeception at it's finest.
We purchased a fixer upper home here 15 years ago then retired 4 years ago sold the house in the coast an moved to Chelan and we couldn’t be happier 😎 my grandparents lived here and in the summer we would visit and I never wanted to go home.
Yes it’s changed with people moving here but it’s still a great place to live.
I agree! I personally love the area. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I was raised in Kettle Falls, Wa. It will never be a Chelan because of the US Park Service. They own all the water. There are a few cabin leases and when I was in HS in the 80s they came along and poured fuel on all the docks and burned them. Locust grove used to have an amazing 4th of July celebration and swim area. No more. And in the 60s they had a floating barge with fuel and burgers and shakes. I played on the skeleton as a kid in the 70s at Ricky point. We could have been a really cool summer destination. Instead our little communities stay afloat with the timber industry, ranching and mining.
Huh?!? Breathtaking Scenery at 0:15 is Picture Lake with Mount Shuksan in the background. It's miles away and hours away from Lake Chelan.
I thought that looked out of place!
I dont think any of the promo pics are Chelan. I grew up and graduated high school there. Still visit to fish.
She also mentioned the 'Emerald Blue' waters. I've never seen any blue emeralds.
How many of the new construction are 2-4-10s?
Two people, occupied 4 weeks/year, 10,000+ square feet.
I've heard many folks state, "Never move where you go to vacation, it can quickly loose it's beauty, you go there to get away". When you live there, you get to deal with the same problems you left behind, along with the extra issues of Tourists and seasonal everything. Generally, everything is more expensive, from the basics to the extras. You also get to deal with folks showing up, acting like fools, because they don't care, they don't live there and they paid to be there. Regardless of the tourists income bracket, many behave like the Bankers Son from an Old West flick. I live in such an area, I stay at home on the weekends and I now go elsewhere to vacation.
Dito! You definitely learn to live around it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Very confused how Picture Lake with Mount Shuksan is considered Lake Chelan to you. Not even the same side of the State.
This is a well done video.. No nonsense, just the facts... Chelan sounds beautiful.
I’ve been to Lake Chelan. I’ve climbed most of the major peaks in Washington and Oregon. I can guarantee that the shot of Mt Shuksan you showed is impossible to see from Lake Chelan.
With all the fires and congestion, I have to wonder if our elected officials and local folks regret approving all this development. There just seems to be a constant refrain of complaints from Chelan these days.
As a WA resident no state tax but in addition to the other taxes you listed there is high property tax, vehicle registration, and almost every town/county has additional bonds and then the high gas taxes.. Then don't forget about the idiotic carbon credits we pay on gas (it is not a tax just ask the governor) No one has been able to tell me how much carbon I have purchased yet or where I can collect it.
Lol, thanks for watching and the comment. I have always said the state should be audited!
We vacationed and camped therein 60’s through 80’s, recent visits not at all the same, over run by tourists and over developed. Currently Pioneer fire burning and smoking up the area. Check for air quality before visiting.
Washington State does have a state income tax, it’s called B&O tax and every self employed person or business has to pay it to the Washington state Department of revenue.
Well done. Thanks
Thank you, Let me know if you would like to see more videos about the area.
Con. Fires every summer, many smoked out days, poor air quality.
@roncedad7032 - There is so much truth to that and it now impacts everywhere you live on the west cost.
My uncle bought land and built a house near the end of an air force runway, then complained about the noise, STUPID
Washington has a sales tax on most items except many food items. You called it an income tax.
The father of my coworker came upon a sasquatch while hiking in this area. This was probably over four decades ago, but maybe they're still in the area.
Sounds miserable! We travel to nice places off season, early spring or later fall. Pack a coat. No crowds!! Good luck to all.
Off season is my favorite time to travel too! Chelan is a great place to live, but during the summer months It's packed with tourist.
That’s like one winery for every white woman in Kirkland.
@wm9346, LOL you make me laugh. Thanks for the comment.
So the first image you choose to show us is a picture of Mt. Shuksan in my back yard 121 miles from Chelan?! Your credibility meter plummeted. You've never been near the place!
@awen777, Thanks for the comment. Im not sure why I would spend the time making a video about an area I have never been to let alone service. I sell Real Estate in Chelan. However, finding stock footage can be challenging for the area.
@@LivinginNCW I was in the Tetons Park at age ten and in the tourist shop their best seller was a huge picture of Mt. Shuksan. The caption under it said "One of the Grand Tetons"! You aren't the first! Chelan is very picturesque and has no shortage of splendid natural beauty. Show that!
Posting Mt Shuksan an hour northeast from Bellingham, WA discredits this video. And if you thought you could get away with calling it Chelan - that’s even more wild. Mt Shuksan is the most photographed mountain in North America.
Oh, real estate agent 👎
Spent a lot of August days in Chelan back in the 70’s. Not sure why our families picked it to begin with, but it started as soon as we moved back to the Seattle area after years away. My dad’s best friend, with his family and a few others went every summer. Stayed at the little motel on the non city (south?) side of the bridge. Don’t know what it’s called today. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Sounds like some great memories. Do you still come to the area?
@@LivinginNCW We took our daughter there about 12 years ago, and some fun was had. Rented a boat, rode a jet ski, but the vibe has changed. Not a place we think of when deciding to go somewhere. Still, it will always be special for me. Cheers.
Same here. I remember going there as a kid. Now everything is booked up before summer even starts, it's gotten expensive and it's too crowded.
My suggestion is don’t move to Washington unless you love crime and high taxes and liberals. If that fits you then by all means move to Washington state.
@@fatherguidosarduchi5204 eh, it's all about perspective and where exactly you move to & are moving from.
Washington state has ZERO income tax, and things like groceries are completely tax exempt. The price you see is the price you pay, no tax on groceries.
I came from Kansas City, and we had to pay State income Tax + Kansas City Income tax (on top of Federal Income tax of course) and then grocery shopping you had to pay Retail Tax + Sales Tax + Grocery Tax. Yup, grocery Tax. You get taxed 3 times over just buying groceries....and thats on top of being triple income Taxes. As far as property taxes in Washington, it is not too bad depending on where you live. Even compared to Kansas City. And with the money you save by having no income tax and cheaper groceries it is more affordable. Higher wages in Washington help as well. Property can be expensive, but rent is really not all too bad for the most part. Rent prices are bad everywhere in the country. But it is certainly far worse in most other places.
As far as crime goes. Well that depends on where you are. In rural Washington, crime is very low. Even in Seattle, violent crime is *_very_* low compared to most major cities & medium sized cities. Seattle is mostly a property crime & drug crime place.
Compared to Kansas City, (AKA "Killa City") there is SIGNIFICANTLY LESS murders in Seattle even. And Seattle has a way bigger population ao thats saying something. Kansas City is top 5 in the murder capitols of the USA. Drugs have completely infested the city and are quickly spreading into the rural outskirts, where I was from.
My high school in KC was surrounded on 3 sides by cow 🐄🐮 fields and a farm in front. It was not a urban area. But it was on the outskirts of the city. The town and highschool have now become infested with drugs, and murders have become commonplace, property crime was on a huge rise. Gunshots were heard almost every single night, often multiple times.
And even worse.....almost every single night there was burglary in the neighborhood. Just Terrible.
Meanwhile rural Washington doesn't have these problems. It feels safe here.
I do however dislike the gun laws in Washington. And obviously Seattle does have its own justice system - policing problems. But compared to Kansas City, even Seattle feels quite safe.
I'd say, move to Kansas City if you want high taxes and even WORSE crime than Washington.
Emerald blue? Sounds like a great name for a cool pup.
lol, thanks for watching and commenting.
First “Breathtaking” pic of “Lake Chelan” that you added is actually Picture Lake at Mt.Baker. About 250 miles away…😂
There are 295 school districts in Washington state. Chelan is #112. I wouldn't call being in the 38 percentile (38th place out of 100) as "great". In fact, on a bell curve...it would be....."average".
Thanks for the comment. See you at the next video.
Years ago was told " Its A beautiful place to Starve ,"
This is actually one of the places in Washington that I've made a point to avoid. The area around there is very nice. You don't have to go into Chelan to enjoy it. People buying up houses like crazy, drinkers all over, crowds. It's the next 'it' town. Driving around up in the hills above the lake is a lot of fun.
Had family who lived there. You hit it on the head for chelan!
@NWcpl, Thank you for the comment. Chelan has a great community and great people live there.
At 4:15 she mentions a state income tax. Washington doesn't have a state income tax, there is a sales tax.
Well that was 100% spot on!
Thank you! see you at the next video.
I work with the homeless community in this area and the drug use is bad in this area
Lived in the City of Chelan mid 80's to 90's, owned property until a couple years ago. City Council full of small town politics, everyone is in everyones business. Fires were a problem back then, worse now! So glad when I left. Summers Hot and dust dirt gets into everything, winters freezing and ice covered. Echo Valley has many times very little snow cover. Purpose of video? Market someones business .
No city. No sirens, no garbage trucks at night. No thank you. I'm a city boy and I love cloudy, rainy weather. Chelan would be a nightmare.
I graduated from manson. Worked there for over. 13 years . Left as soon as I could. Lol hate going back it's just another lake to me. As a high schooler beer on Friday and Saturdays. Don't forget the ones that don't drink are pot heads!! Lol
Where are you now? Thanks for watching and commenting.
Don’t move to Chelan. It is deceiving. Brutal winters, few amenities, and it does not have a good local community- everything is about making money off the tourists. ☠️
With the low salaries coupled with the cost of homes in WA, it's another unlivable area. California has ruined everything in the PNW. Having grown up along the I-5 corridor, the gray weather I can handle.
Thanks for the comment.
Calif has not ruined everything. High home prices are driven by corporate rentals and airbnbs which have taken more then 30% of available homes off the market, driving prices up
Why does this town remind me of Dantes Peak ....I'm getting shivers 😮
I lived in Wallace Idaho, the main filming location for the fictional town of Dante's Peak.
Eh, I'm still alive.
You said no state income tax, but then referenced the state & local income taxes… I think you meant sales taxes. And did you comment on property taxes?
@michaelregan , Thanks for catching that. You are correct I meant to say sales tax. I will go into property taxes in another video. I appreciate the comment!
And hang gliding! Chelan is one of the best spots in the world to hang glide. There's even an ultralight/hang glider manufacturer there.
Lake Chelan area is experiencing wildfires right now!
Way to many homes built in Chelan and manson the traffic is complete nightmare .
Nice Lake but very cold water
I agree, It needs to be really hot out for me to jump in.
At about 4:18 you said there is a state and local income tax. I know you meant sales tax. I live on the west side of the Cascades and in my county it totals up to about 9.1-9.3% by the time they pile county and local on top of the state's base sales tax rate.
Thanks for clarifying, I did mean sales tax. Yea, Seattle's sales tax is at 10.2%, Chelan county is at 8.8%. Thanks for watching and commenting.
What about Sasquatch?
Chelan in the summer is a freaking zoo. Never would live there. But the Lakeview burger joint is amazing.
For sure, thanks for watching and the comment.
She is the picture of Mount Baker lol😂
I love that lake.. When I win the lottery, i'll probably just buy a yacht and live on the water.. *Nice to know about the farmland- I'll need a place to keep my pet cow
I know this area rather well and it's my opinion that it's now a place for RICH DRUNKS ! That's too bad because the entire area was Beautiful. Not so much now.
Thanks for watching and commenting. See you at the next video.
I've lived in western Washington by the Olympic Peninsula for almost 50 years, and you couldn't get me to live anywhere in Eastern Washington if you paid me.
Most of these pictures are not from Chelan.
I lived there for 10 months.
Note: the still photos used aren’t all from Chelan.
Thanks for the comment.
Hmmmm you are talking about Lake “breathtaking scenery” while showing a photo of Mt Shuksan and Picture Lake that could not be any further from Lake Chelan :)
That's funny, the very 1st breathtaking scenery is not in Chelan, it's from the ski area at Mt. Baker looking at Mt. Shuksan. 😂😂😂 that's like 60 miles as the crow flies from the very west end of the lake.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Especially
All the kids get to go to college, the benefit of small community. The negative their are no jobs, once their college educated so their is an absence of 18-32 ish year olds. The ones that don't get out continue making poor choices.
I feel like that happens in a lot of smaller towns. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The cons seem to out weight the pros.Chelan only seems good to visit for a day trip at most lol.but 4 myself seems like a place I'll just avoid all together
Thanks for watching and commenting. Where do you live now?
Chelan and Leavenworth are expensive tourists locations (traps). Locals are priced out of their own homes, restaurants, etc.
@wm9346, Thank you for the comment. Tourism is always a catch-22 situation.
No thank you.
