It is funny the West could neglect the slaughter in Gaza instead focusing on the delegate war in Ukraine😢
On the contrary, Putin’s support for Hamas makes the invasion of Israel a second front in his Ukraine invasion.
Wouldn't it be then correct to say it's Avdeevka now?
The US has helped to reduce Western Europe to a state of weakness and dependency on US energy. The de-industrialisation of Germany is going to castrate the financial strength of the EU. The populations of European countries are going to be subject to severe recession whether they want it or not.

How did this happen when russia (according to the Telegraph) ran out of missiles last year???
Ukraine did indeed have the advantage and initiative for a good part of last year, but the misguided offensive plan, the Russians’ stubborn defense, and the Russians’ leveraging of their manpower tipped the scales. From there, the Ukranians mistakenly turned appearances into military priorities, and the Russians exploited this repeatedly.

My question is for Francis. Why is the $91 billion package from the US Congress not a loan? During WWII, when the UK 🇬🇧 needed aid, the US Congress came up with the Lend-Lease format. Shouldn't aid for Ukraine be as a loan that has to be paid back?

Trump aside, the fact that there are so many members of NATO NOT spending 2% on defence in the current climate is outrageous. Over the last few decades it has also contributed to the lack of stock available to freely pass on to Ukraine in their time of need.
Why "Trump aside"? Trump was the only one who had the balls to speak out about this obscene position, and to get it fixed. So why not acknowledge that and say “Thanks Mr Trump”? Even the head of NATO was too weak to force his own members to pay. Maybe he hadn’t noticed that they hadn’t paid. Either way, that’s no way to rum a military force. Give praise where praise is due, stop being so mean spirited and narrow-minded.
@@charleswhite758On most issues and in particular this instance Trumps delivery was poorly constructed. On February 17 the Russian Armed Forces captured the strategically located town of Avdiivka in the disputed Donbas region, inflicting extreme casualties on Ukrainian forces in the area which reportedly peaked at approximately 1,500 daily. Drone footage released by the Russian Defence Ministry a day after the retreat began showed ground forces fleeting the town, with large numbers of Ukrainian Army soldiers withdrawing on foot leaving behind significant quantities of heavy equipment. This pullout notable began a day before forces actually received orders to do so, raising speculation that the order to withdraw may have been given to cover for the fact that forces had simply retreated on their own initiative. The footage also notably showed retreating Ukrainian forces continuing to be subjected to artillery bombardment and air strikes, with multiple Ukrainian military vehicles shown to have been taken out.
Western sources have widely blamed the United States’ freeze on arms transfers to Ukraine for the Russian victory, with Ukrainian forces having suffered from increasingly crippling and extreme shortages even when American arms were flowing into the country. These have worsened considerably since. Personnel interviewed near the front lines have consistently reported that positions are increasingly at risk of collapse, with severe personnel shortages after a year of tremendous casualties having left frontline units undermanned, exacerbating the strain imposed by munitions shortages. A number of Russian and Ukrainian sources have reported that when withdrawing from Avdiivka the Ukrainian Army abandoned a number of injured personnel while pulling back, with the Ukrainian government having acknowledged that several personnel were captured during the retreat. Videos aired by a number of Ukrainian outlets showed injured personnel reporting having been left behind, although broad estimates for the numbers abandoned currently vary widely depending on the sources.

One important takeaway from this episode is the fact that so many European officials still give Trump the benefit of the doubt based on his conduct during his first administration. I addressed this recently in another comment section, but I think it bears repeating. A second Trump administration is going to be far worse than the first. Trump and his people have been completely open about their intention to pack his next administration entirely with Trump sycophants. None of the rational, moderating voices will be there the next time. Those people were responsible for keeping Trump's worst excesses in check. Europeans need to be clear-eyed about that.
Yup. First time he didn't have a plan, nor much clue. Now he's had 4 years to organize his power grab. It's incredible how the US public is sleepwalking into a dictatorship..
So Mike Pence, John Bolton, Nikki Haley are rational????
Europe needs to be clear-eyed and prepare for an absence of the US. This shouldn't be a problem if we plan well and realise how much capacity we actually have.
@Paulus8765 I agree totally. If I were European, I would want to be independent from the U.S., especially the America I see taking shape today.
