      The thing is, (in contrast with top bands like The Beatles or Stones) that they were thrown to the US garage scene (since the Americans wanted to "stop" the invaders coming from the UK, in favour of local bands) , so they did develop a huge solid live sound rather say easily from their standards in beat music, they evolved to a more punch punk sound mid 60s, just as their friends The Kinks... but people missed it bc they also were forced to be commercially ad hoc for the charts. What a shame, a top band if you ask me.

    • @MrSirMrSirMr
      @MrSirMrSirMr Před 2 lety +2

      Well, sort of. A lot of the bands used session musicians, songs by outside writers, or wrote songs that were just an 'evolution' of earlier songs - there was a lot of stealing from other musicians, not through sampling, but just rewriting older songs, usually by black artists. For example, listen to Going Up The Country, 'written' by Canned heat, then check out Bulldoze Blues by Henry Thomas. There were many great original artists, too, of course, just as there are now.
      Most of these artists would've been used to lip syncing on other shows too.

      I turned 5 that September, but I had six older siblings, three who were at least 10 years older and really into music. My dad liked folk music and listened to top 40 radio and my mom played classical music on the piano. I was around music from the time I was born. By late 63, soon after I turned three, I was already paying attention to the songs I heard on the radio and on our record player. The first two songs I remember liking were 'Deep Purple' and 'I'm Leaving It up To You' in late 63/early 64. Then The Beatles came along and my siblings started buying their albums as they were released, so I was a Beatles nut from the very beginning. My brother Tom was playing and singing folk music by 1964 and my brother Kevin started playing and singing in a rock band in 1966. I had no idea back then just how special those time were for music, it just seemed that's how things were supposed to be. So many great memories of listening to music and seeing bands play on TV shows, of hearing my brothers play and my mom playing the piano. 1964 was the beginning of a whole new era, which had been blossoming for a couple of years. So thankful I grew up with all of that wonderful music. I have a book called Pop Annual, it has listings year by year from 1955-1982 of every song that made the top 100 on the Billboard charts. It's fun looking through that to see all the songs that were on the charts back then. We were lucky.

      When I was in the 7th grade , just after my 13th birthday, the FBI came to my school and demanded that my band tell them the " dirty lyrics to 'Louie Louie' . We played it for them and then told them there are no 'dirty words anywhere in the song on the song we recited them and said them like they're sung. They did not believe us. We explained that were written to sound Jamaican. Example; ' " Me see Jamaican moon above . ." and that the singer slightly slurs the words as Fats Domino recommended, he said " you should never sing the words too clearly ". They still wouldn't believe us. I wonder if anyone at the FBI ever put the record through the thing that filters out the other sounds in a much later decade to once and for all solve this non-mystery. Hope they can sleep better. I wasn't allowed to go to any of the school dances, but I really enjoyed watching and copying the Shindig dancers on my secondhand tv in my room.
      My parents let me go to the back to school dance in the fall with a neighbor who was in my class. He was a sweet guy. Anyways, when we walked into the gym they were playing the popular songs on 45 rpm records. We were dancing a nice slow song and then the next song was Justeen! I made every move I had seen the girls on Shindig doing. I didn't know that everyone didn't dance like that! 😮 Anyways I certainly made an impression on all the kids who knew me as being shy and quiet. 😊 😂
