What do YOU do to your mixes? Let me know by commenting below!
What do I do to my mixes? Try not to mess them up! ha ha. I have a Wes Audio Prometheus I like on my 2 buss and it has stereo/dual mono/mid side modes. I'll have to try this! I also like running mixes through my Otari mx 50 50 with Ampex 406!
I put every channel through the Brainworx SSL 4000e strip and adjust the THD screw to taste. This is a way of controlling how hard you are pushing the console in each instance. Sometimes I take all the THD out. A piano for instance. Sometimes I crank it all the way. This work particularly well on lead guitars.
But, a lot of plugins have m/s. So...How do you "stack" m/s plugins on busses and maybe the mix bus. ? Thats my big Q. Just trying to work it out...
I found a limiter plug-in the other day that brought my previously mastered track (alternative punk/rock) to a place that sounded much more fun to the ear. The drums sounded fatter/more chaotic, guitar sounded more intense and vocals slightly improved. Fooled around for an hour, rendered it and the next day it did not sound as good as I thought. It's interesting what your mind/ears can do while in the moment and had I backed off 15% it probably would have been great. Is there such a thing as "mastering" tracks different depending on their genre or is it purely personal preference?
This is so cool !👍 thx for sharing it!
Love this guy. What a kind-hearted and generous fella.
Yes, he certainly is!
He’s like the older brother giving advice in life

T levels not so high tho

When Marc explains; I listen. Really enjoy his lessons, tips, tricks etc.
Possibly the clearest explanation of creative use of M/S technique I’ve heard. Love the 15% rule caveat!
Agreed
Wonderful Steve!
@@LocaliLLocano fantastic!
Love Marc’s videos. It’s not just his calm, cool explanations but the music used for examples are amazing!
I wish this guy was my teacher when I studied Music Production. How can somebody learn so much in only 9 minutes? Thank you so much Marc and all the staff from Produce Like a Pro for giving us the opportunity to keep learning day by day.
Don't you just love the Marc Daniel Nelson video's. they like bedtime stories!
Man, this is something a true master of his craft does, this made it perfect. That is exactly what the song needed I think.
A little bit salt. A little bit of pepper. Love that!!!
I have nothing to say, genius. And somehow for some reason the music give me motivation. Thank you very much!
Marc is fantastic. A top chef with a fine palate - that keeps us from throwing all sorts of ingredients onto dishes, and make a gigantic mess.

Marc's got some great ears. His brilliant mixing techniques bring my own ears to life. I appreciate that Warren! More please. :)
Marvellous!
Thank you Marc ,For sharing your wonderful tips ,it's very helpful
love the quality of the lessons of this guy. Awesome stuff is very nice to ear easy to follow. Great Job thank you
I like doing this with fat synths as well when they’re overlapping vocals. I dynamically reduce the overall level of the synth in the midrange in the centre channel, while still making it poke through on the sides.
These are such things that separates a pro from a new one. What a spectacular video !
Marc Daniel Nelson = like +add to favorites. Now I can watch the video 🙂
Love your videos, great explanations. Thank you!
Yayus! Been too long since our last MDN vid!
my gosh, I may not know much about you but your music mixing science is phenomenal. its like simple things you do are so subtle and those simple subtle things make a huge difference. It shows i have a long way to go to being half of pro mixer of this caliber.
Great video! Thanks Marc!
Thank you, this is a great lesson that even helped me to lively up a techno mix, even with a mono track and a stereo track that only allowed me to use the eq in stereo mode and not in mid side mode. But even that way it just made the track sound better. thanks again!
I JUST LOVE THE GUITAR SOUND FROM THE INTRO
I've never clicked on a video so fast before, awesome tips!
Thanks for the tip, Bradley Cooper!
As always great stuff!
wow awesome ... love this song and the sound with these tiny little moves... awesome.
Much love from Burundi 🇧🇮
Thanks for this video... I already did this before but it helped me to understand better. I love m/S processing and even recording, cause it is so wonderful mono compatible.
Excellent tip !!! Thanks Marc !!!
Always wondered what M/S was all about - first time I’ve heard it described so succinctly!
Same here, that was a great example to watch to see it in action. All about those little touches
That was super helpful. Really great techniques shown here. Really clearly explained.
😊 Thank you Marc!
Loved it! Thanks a million.
I love M/S learning to get the best out of it, thx for this valuable lesson!!
There is so much to learn ... Thank you for this ❤
Great advice! I have overdone this and really appreciate your attention to detail. Great warning at the end. I say “Have fun and do good work!” You are getting it done… Thank you.
Thanks ever so muc
Wonderfully explained, on a fantastic track and mix. Thanks.
Always appreciated advice!! 🔥
I really like the fact thay you actually mix and use real music to demonstrate different techniques. That, to my ears, is far more pertinent than to put 24 compressors and distortion plugins on an already dull , dead and soulless and distorted snare... Well done, Sir :)
So good. Thank you Marc.
Excellent Tip, keep up the good work.
Thank you! this finally do the trick for the music im making! You got a new sub!
Wow a truly amazing talent, Marc.
Awesome awesome trick thanks for sharing!!!!!
Nice to see your contributions MARC: someone with incredible talent and humility sharing simple tricks that travel around the world connecting and beautifying the Music. GRACIAS!
P.S. : Atticus is ELVIS

Man!! This is gold!
Thanks Pablo
Awesome. Thanks! Trying that out today--
Marc, you are a brilliant producer. The tricks you teach work like heaven, and I use them on all of my mixes.
I dream of having a series of private lessons with you. But I guess that it's not possible, because you are busy.
Anyway, all the best to you, you are brilliant.
"A little salt and a little pepper." Oh - and "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down." j/k As usual - Marc Daniel has bestowed some useful knowledge. Thank you!
Thanks Marc, a very valuable tip.
Whoa... I'm going to use this. Thanks!
As always, thanks for MDN 👍👍👍
Thank you! The video was super helpful
Awesome. I actually never knew how M/S eq worked. Definitely want to try this now, with the 15% rule in mind of course. Thanks for an excellent video as always. 👍
Brilliant!
Marc is the best!
Excellent as always. The song almost sounded flat with the MS stuff removed. Another great trick to add the 'glitter'
I'm mastering an album tomorrow and will be sure to try this out!
i love this man
Such a great tutorial. Thank you :)
an explanation as clear as the mix
(in the positive way of course)
I've been having a hard time trying to understand what mid side is for this was goo I get it now. I'm retracking my song HORRIFIC right now so these few days you guys and mixbus tv have been helping me as I work on my project. Cheers mate

I didn't know this trick ! thanks
Great info! Noticed the 2nd time watching you do it on individual tracks as well
love this video!
Thanks
Sounds great!
Thanks ever so much
I've had a problem with lush stereo mixes sounding tinny on tablets and phones.
The mid side EQ on the mix buss solved that issue quick smart.
Watching your demo on a tablet I heard the issue appear and resolve.
Marvelous
Great technique and excellent explanation!
Thanks Steve
Good advice, Thank you!
Thanks ever so much
Please, more videos by Marc!
Very good lessons.🙏
