If you can't boot off of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM like you use to for the last 20 yrs, this is why. And this is how you fix it. And its not the Boot Order in the BIOS. Just like in the past when your CD was not a BOOT CD, your CD is not a UEFI Boot CD by Default. Switch to Legacy CSM boot. - Věda a technologie
had the same problem as you couldnt get it to boot from a cd was very frustrated spent hours on youtube til i found this video thanks man you explained it so well
You're a genius! Selected UEFI in settings then my CD started working. Thank you !
5 years later from when you uploaded this video and this is still relevant for toshiba laptops. thank you very much for u[loading this
I don't even get to see the "boot mode" menu 😭
tried other method which has worked 2 yrs ago before, except not this time. seeing your video reminded me of UEFI then proceeded with the password resetting. Thanx for reminding me
Thanks... I'm happy that I stumbled across this video! I was about to give up on installing from DVD after a total system failure/crash. Now, all is well. Thanks again!
You rock man. I've been trying to solve this boot order sh*t for over a month now. Thank you!
Same here.
Aaah... this is so helpful, man. This had me stumped, and now I'm all sorted. Thanks a million.
Thanks for watching and supporting my channel, much appreciated
Very well done, kudos to the poster of the clip. A lot of people were unaware of this including me..and it has helped to understand and trouble shoot booting problems. Thumbs up.
Glad you survived the Roswell crash, trying to boot up the computer on your Spaceship, any luck?
Omg thank you so much...I bought a recovery boot program and could not get it to boot from disc...have tried for weeks...saw you on here and did as you said and right away it did it..ty ty
You welcome, very glad I helped out in some way.
Thank you for sharing. I switched UEFI mode to Legacy mode and it works! I appreciate it
you sir are a genius. Thanks so much for shedding light on this "problem" drove me insane that I was living with my Toshiba HDD for so long and couldn't boot off of my 500gb Crucial SSD. Thanks again
Thank you for putting the video up. I had been trying to fix a laptop but it wasnot putting just like you explained. Thanks
I have to say that Ive looked and looked and everyone had all this tech shit about removing this and that and renaming shit in Bios and yours was the simplest and easiest way to fix it. I just followed your simple ass instructions and wala..im booting from my DVD. Thanks so much!!!
Thanks bro, i thought i was going nuts until i saw this video. I wanted to do exactly what you are doing in this video so thumbs up.
excellent vid, been scratching my head for a few hours, be cause the disk would not run, thanks for this very useful video.
Thanks bro this video helped. i was quite puzzled for a couple days.tHANKS FOR YOUR HARD WORK.
omg u the best... god was looking forever to solve this issue. i diskaprt then struggled ... u saved me thank you big time god bless u
Wow!! 1,102,348 views, an obviously need hack and fix. THANK YOU, there are still some people using older computers and needed this.
Now, I hope you may have learned some more tricks. I have a Dell 7200 and the CD/DVD do not appear. I ran your Life Hack and it worked perfectly,
but I have a multi-boot system and even when I went back to UEFI I can't see my GRUB Menu, only shows the Windows Main Boot option. I needed to access the DVD to run
Boot Repair, and it won't run on legacy mode, so I used your solution to at least see the DVD. But I still can't run Boot Repair in Legacy Mode to add my other installed Linux distros. By the way, when I left UEFI, my only option was ODD, which allowed me to run your hack. I enjoy working with vintage machines, so, yes, I know I can buy an new computer, but that's not how I fly.
Thanks again for this ingenious idea and hack.
u saved my life, thank you very much ! really appericiate it! liked and subscribed!
rjNr10 thank you, much appreciated, every subscriber counts
thank you very much the tutorial was helpful for me since yesterday Im trying to install new Win7 on Crucial mx200 I just Find the way .
+Sid'Ahmed MOHAMED LEMINE i got a BX100 500GB. Aren't they so much nicer than spinning drives? Glad I found this video too!
believe or not your vid helped me to USB boot Lubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 11 - Thank you!!
Thank you! I needed to turn my old laptop into a file server :D
Thanks for your great help!! Greetings from Albury NSW, Australia!!
The Compatibility Support Module (CSM) is a component of the UEFI firmware that provides legacy BIOS compatibility by emulating a BIOS environment, allowing legacy operating systems and some option ROMs that do not support UEFI to still be used
my man, you are fucking amazing. i literally just spent the last 8 hours trying to figure this out/researching/forums and was going to give up b/c it wasn't something i needed done this second, and apparently most people are unaware of the uefi issue. I found this video right before i quit. thank you.
If others are wondering, cd's can boot if they are uefi enabled, usually with a efi folder.
That's true for bootable flash drives, but it's a little more complicated for optical disk drives.
Thanks, this is the solution for my problem
With windows 10 I could not start with my boot CD but the video gives the answer
Thanks for the explanation. Unlike Alfred, who only spent half an hour thinking he was in "stupid mode," I've spent a couple days wrestling with this and gradually unraveling the mystery. Even after learning about UEFI vs CSM I just couldn't bring myself to accept that this was normal behavior and was ready to contact Toshiba and blame them for using a defective BIOS. Turns out this is the wave of the future. Hopefully someone will figure out a way to make CDs and USB drives that will boot in UEFI.
Thanks for this info, I was trying to boot Linux Ubuntu off a flash drive, I could set the USB as first boot device, but the Lenovo laptop would just default to Win8.
I can see why it's being done this way, to 'save' us from wrecking our PC's, but it's annoying to blocked out of doing something fairly simple.
OMG thank you so much for this video solved half my problem ^-^ now I just need to upgrade my harddrives MBR or something
Thanks man, help me alot. I have been trying now for 4 hours..
Thanks, i wasnt sure if the UEFI or Legacy would make the difference, but you just confirmed it. Was cloning my old drive with new SSD and i couldnt start Acronis up. I thought my CD was broke ^^, ..
Also works for USB for anyone who is curious. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the help. It came just at the right time...
my toshiba couldnt "see" my bootable usb , and now it does... thnx!
Mannnn Thanks a lot I was going crazy but your video help me
Thanks for that! I already found the menu option to disable secure boot, but I'd forgotten about the UEFI boot mode; turned that off aswell and bingo, now installing Win7 ok on a SkyLake laptop. 8)
Oddly, with the boot mode set to UEFI, I was able to boot from the Win7 disc but after maybe 2 mins it would lock up. All ok now though.
Thanks! This video really helped me!!!
Best bro worked more me 100% , i used a flash to boot up {thumbs up}
THANK YOU!!!!
I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't honor the boot order...
Going to do this now so I can clone the SSD and put a larger drive in...
... but nope - secure mode was off, and even after changing to Legacy (non-UEFI on my system) it won't boot the USB DVD-ROM despite seeing it.
it helped me so much. thank you !!
Nice work... great video!
You've helped me alot, thank you so much
The latest Acronis True Image 2015 works fine as a UEFI boot CD and it will clone GPT partitions. It warns you if the copied image will not be bootable, which happens sometimes, but can be overcome easily enough with a Win 8 boot CD.
Jean-Pierre White i do have the latest and greatest true image. using a w540 (from friendly china), i did disable safe boot and uefi all together, your bootable image (once written on an usb stick) would not boot. why do we even allow china to see their crap in here (and that includes apple devices)
Thanks !! You saved my day !!
Omg thanks! Couldn't boot from cd rom to save my life!!
At 2:51 already had the solution, thanks man. (y)
My BIOS is so old that apparently it doesn't even have the Secure Boot option :-) But, I know I have booted this machine from CD in the past and I have no idea why it won't do so anymore. I have a blank/unformated HD hooked up and I wanted to boot from a Linux .iso disk and install it.
well done, excellent, worked, so good. thank you
Thank you! FOr me it was CSM - you put your finger on it!
You sir are my lord and saviour

Hello I'm currently trying to downgrade/clean install my laptop to windows 7. Now when I go to bios I could not find the option to change boot mode to csm which is required before I could boot to a cd. my bios version is F.26 and my laptop is an HP Pavilion G4. please help
For your HP Pavilion G4 try the Boot Order and choose "Legacy boot order". See if there is such a thing in your BIOS or in the Boot Screen.
Hi sir, glad that you could fix your bios issue and love your tutorial. Please could you tell me how to replace UI by CSM and desable UEFI on a HP Pavilion 17 e105eb. I plan to install Windows 7 pro soon and my PC having been bought in January 2014 is programmed for Windows 8.1 and superior boot system and I would not want to be blocked in the process of installing my Windows 7 pro. Thank you for your help.
i dont have boot mode and boot secure!!! why?
He has UEFI BIOS, but you probably have Legacy BIOS
try replacing your CD/DVD Burner
You are my hero!!!!

Solve my problem on bootable USB, thanks!!

Also, you might have to set your BIOS to "legacy" in order to boot from a CD.

How did u know about disabling Secure boot and then choose csm boot instead of eufi boot? Trial and error?
Thanks brother you deserve a subscribe+like

so look
i try to open BIOS mode but everytime i chose it to open..it shows a black screen with a dot in the corner and Boom freeze out and the only thing i can do is to shut down the PC
what can i do?
Thank you so much!
It keeps redirecting me to the hard drive/os boot manager when I tried booting from the CD, even with the cd drive in the top of the boot order, and legacy on/secure boot off.
Thanks man!
In my case, when I set back to UEFI, I can't edit the boot order and I can't boot from USB :(
it works, thanks...

A Friend Told Me That The Windows That The Other Owner Installed Was In On Drive D Not C. Could That Be it?..Please Help!
Thanks Bro
Perfect!!
This CSM and secure boot thing we have been landed with with UEFI instead of BIOS is a real pain. I still don't really understand what's going on. My boot drive, a PCIe M.2 just stopped booting and nothing I do seems to fix it. I can't even reinstall windows on that or any other disk. There are no instructions anywhere. I am so pissed off. I haven't had my pc working for three weeks.
