Defending in a deep block is a football tactic used by most teams at some point. Some teams will utilise a deep block more often such as Burnley or Atletico Madrid.
In this video we will take a look at some of the key characteristics involved in a deep block. We will take a look at two examples, one from Canada and one from Juventus.
We will then take a look at the deep block in more detail on the tactic board and explore how a deep block can be organised with the help of the five zone pitch setup.

Well explained and clear. I learnt a lot in this short video...
Thanks for the feedback!
I had no playing experience as a child and only became a fan of club football in my thirties so videos like this one are really helpful in gaining a tactical understanding of the sport. Thank you.
Hi Robert! I'm glad you found the video helpful! Which club do you support?
@@CoachReese I’m in Florida so I support Inter Miami in MLS, but I’m also a big supporter of Chelsea & RB Leipzig, primarily because of Pulisic and Tyler Adams.
@@RobertDouglasLW what are you thoughts on Pulisic?
@@CoachReese I keep hoping he’ll stay healthy enough to establish himself as a regular fixture in CFC’s starting XI. He’s outplayed the likes of Zyech & Werner when healthy, IMO. He’s going to be asked to be the primary goal scorer for the USMNT in the upcoming qualifiers. Our next 3 opponents are sure to lay in a low block and without a traditional #9 that can hold up the ball or win physical battles for possession in the box, Pulisic’s quality with the ball will need to be relied upon to break down defenses.
It's really clear and understandable
Thanks

Thanks! I'm glad you found it useful! How do you think the Everton season will go?
I use e 4-1-5 and counter with a 4-3-3
I think chelsea used the same tactic against man city in UCL final..Am i right ?
Hi Akhil, Yes they did. The thing will blocks. So high, mid and deep is most teams. Especially the stronger teams will use all 3 during a game. And it will depend on the game state. Teams who primarily focus around a deep block tend to be the weaker teams within the leagues. A good example within the Premier League is West Brom.
@@CoachReese Thanks coach for explaining. Your videos are really helpful to understand the game better.
@@akhilpm2577 No problem I'm glad you found it useful. I do have a couple of football 101 videos about the high and mid block if you need more information
