Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. From what I see I really like the consort yue She knows she holds more power than the empress but never uses it unless it’s for the good of the household. And she never disrespected the empress. Same goes for the empress she knows that the emperor and consort yue were childhood lovers but never fights for the affection. All three of them have a very respectful relationship with one another.

She's actually the first wife. She accepted that her husband had to marry Xuan Shen'an for political reasons, they all knew that marriage was political. But the true love is between him and her. So, she discreetly stays behind, but she's a stronger personality who takes no bs from anybody. And so sometimes she steps in.

Okay, can we give the script writers a resounding round of applause please? This is the BEST drama I’ve seem in a while. just amazing.
It's very hard to write a good story when all the top powers are on the protagonists side (that's why most other story would have the emperor or the concubine as evil) but the writers have done an excellent job so far. that's the most appealing and unique part of this drama for me.
And the acting!
Not only the script was a amazing but the best actors and actress to make it a complete success 😊 because u can have a good script it the actors are not so good but in the series everything was perfect 👍🏻 😊
@@happymaryjanedaniel9663 Exactly. Many good dramas have gone to a vain because of the execution and poor acting of the leads. Meanwhile, many great actors potential has been dumped into a garbage because of poor writing and dialogues. Both aspects are equally important to make a drama hit and the makers of this drama have done a phenomenal job to portray that. We can see the hardwork of everyone and how meticulously they created this masterpiece. Tbh, I didn't like the previous works of this fl because the ones I watched, the writing was sloppy and her characters felt too stupid and annoying for a fl. I was hesitant about this drama too, especially because of the start. However, I watched the whole episode because the witty dialogues and the charismatic personality of niao niao's mother. It's rare to find a woman who is soldier and has a family with her husband supporting her, especially in dramas. That twist made me stay for the whole drama and I loved how we get to see the growth of niao niao from being a childish girl with no knowledge of outside world from becoming so calm and smart yet not leaving her childishness and self-respect.
This drama made me realise the potential of this fl because the way she portrays this character is phenomenal and touching. If her acting has been off, niao niao's could have come out as annoying at times. Finally another Chinese drama that I cannot stop talking about.
Nirvana in Fire is way more engaging and even addictive.

...except Ling Buyi understands what he's doing when it comes to dealing with those in the palace and actually cares about the domino effects and political consequences of his actions. And when dealing with situations that can lead to political consequences, one has to be extra cautious and even secretive. You cannot just run around doing whatever. That's why he is the way he is. Shao Shang, on the other hand, just has an ego and doesn't like "being told what to do". She has little understanding of consequences and, sometimes, she simply _does not care._ she has said so herself. That makes her reckless and even dangerous(both to herself and to others). She's been like that all her life. She never thought about or cared about the consequences of her actions to her family, etc. If I was Ling Buyi, I wouldn't tell her things either.

she didn't say that she didn't care if the Crown Prince was worthy to rule or not. she just didn't care who Wang Long or his father was. and in her perspective, all she did was TALK to the Crown Prince because she ran into him outside the Empress's room. Shaoshang didn't deliberately go looking for him to offer him her two cents, she just saw the situation and offered the best possible advice she could. it was all so innocent to her, she could have never imagined the long-lasting political consequences. remember, she doesn't even know where the Censorate is. it's not rubbish because she "doesn't care" it's rubbish that she had no crash course on the history of the royal family, some base info she deserved to have that Zisheng never gave her. he expects her to do what exactly? keep quiet and be an obedient wife? he knows very well she's nothing like that, and that's one of the reasons he loves her so much.
As great as Shaoshang’s revenge was in this episode (with over the top assists from the Emperor, and Ling Buyi and his squad) my absolute favorite part was the Empress making her realize how deeply she hurt the Empress, Emperor and Buyi by not sharing her pain at being targeted by the 5th Princess. By keeping this from them she was treating them as outsiders as people she couldn’t trust with her vulnerability and this disappointed them deeply. Shaoshang realized she was wrong (finally!) And that she wished she had known all this before but now the damage was done and it was too late. But then the Emperor pops up to tell her “It’s never too late to learn how to love Zisheng” ❤️! Looking forward to some long awaited personal growth! ❤️
Niao Niao's revenge was just comical, the real revenge was from the General, who got to the heart of the matter. In the beginning I was impressed by her, but now I am finding her behavior ignorant ,boring and frustrating. The General always have to clean up her mess. 🙄 if she had basic common sense, she would understand that her way of doing things is out dated and will achieve nothing good. The husband is the protector, she seems to think that being rogue is her identity and doing as it pleases her. Yao was a puppet 🤣 that's why she was so enthusiastic to marry because he would support her childish antics. She likes yes men, a man that will obey her, no questions asked. There's nothing great about her, except her ability to create stuff. I'm totally fed up with her and disappointed that the General have to put up with her nonsense because of love. Her age is no excuse for her ignorance, she's just rebellious, like so many teenagers in the world. The best person in this series is the General, he's outstanding and worth watching 👀
I loved the Emperor for telling her it's not to late to learn how to love Zisheng. She needs to grow from that and understand it's not her against the world any more. There are people who genuinely care about her and will help her if she could just trust them. Her grandmother and aunt need some General Ling punishment for that. She did realize her mistake after the fact and hurt the General she will grow from this. I am just happy the scolding was done in a loving manner because she heard them.
The laws and rules of the Era …
as I am able to comprehend:
Children are to be filial. This included obedience, caring and helping parents, guardians and elders. If children were found to be unruly to the point of bringing dishonor, shame, and hurt to the family. The consequences could be and would be punishable by law. The Emperor was the final authority ( after a miscreant was investigated through proper ranks of authority ).
The Empress stated in the dialogue, how the princesses and ladies - (daughters of Officials and Royalty) - behaved outside the Palace likely was arrogant (we call them snobs) etc. The Emperor stated he would investigate the fathers and brothers of the girls for arrogance and shady dealings … looking for Officials likely taking bribes and oppressing the people and treating others cruelly and unfair.
So, over the top assists indicate the severity of the matter…
@@beverley1962ify I don't think it's entirely her fault...if you're on your own for 15 years you just learn to get by on your own, it would be absurd to think that in a few weeks she could shed that behavior just like that.
Honestly I would not share what happened either. And I'm older than the character is. 👍
Maybe it's a matter of pride, but I believe it's more about dignity at this point. Because without any proof how can she be sure they would believe her and not appear just like a brat blaming others. And even it they believed her, without proof it would be just her word against other and the princess may go unpunished and made her life even worse.
And they have no right to feel dissapointed. It's her choice to tell or not.

that entire scene with the fifth princess and when everything was revealed was just *chef's kiss* everyone did so well. i couldn't help rewinding multiple times just to admire and focus on a different actor every replay. and the background music that slowly gets louder and louder just added to the immersion.
Agreed so perfect! Only thing I would have loved was if they had ants crawling around her while she’s screaming/crying since she said Ling, Niao Niao and everyone else are like ants by comparison easily crushed and not missed

I love how quickly karma came for the fifth princess. She has a total disregard of anyone and only cares about herself and her desires. The fact she considers anybody's life and wants other then her own as nothing shows how much of a narcissistic sociopath she is. Her type of character usually ends up doing serious harm to the kingdom if she isn't stopped. I love the fact that because of her arrogance she ensured her own downfall. Every time she opened her mouth thinking she was right in her rant she dug her own hole deeper and deeper.
I know, she's actually suggesting to kill the fiance (who's the daughter of a loyal general who fought many wars) of a general's son who gave his life for the nation. 2 generals whom the emperor respects. The princess can't possibly get any madder??

The look on YS face when LB brought up the snakes, priceless. Qi always at his master's side. This was epic that princess got what she deserved.
I just feel sorry for those Fifth Princess' aides. They lost their lives because of HER arrogant attitude, foolish tongue, and malicious actions.
Then again, they were "feeding" her seditious ideas & attitudes. Maybe they actually got what they deserved.
This episode is definitely a lesson about thinking too highly of ourselves and overstepping boundaries. Hope Fifth Princess learns her lesson.

Don't get me wrong, he's one of the best characters in Chinese drama to date. But this scene precisely, he was so self-centred. Way to make Shaoshang feel bad about retaking her power from the bullies. No, he wants to own her revenge too.
Her mother treated Shaoshang so badly and made her feel rude and clumsy, but Shaoshang thrived at the palace. She was powerful enough to enact her own vengeance when necessary, intelligent and articulate when explaining her case so everyone could understand, she behaved honorably, and earned the love and support of the emperor, empress, consort yue, and others, which carried her through several politically volatile situations. She was much more suited to life among the royals than in her own family, where she was beaten down and belittled.
Consort Yue fascinates me a lot. She is smart, patient, knows how to deal with people and has a very good observation of the people around her. She even gave a warning (kind of) to Miss Luo.

Ling Buyi and Naio Naio, they’re relationship is so relatable. Who gets along with their significant other all the time? No one. Feelings get hurt and disagreements arise in every relationship and I appreciate the writers putting these moments into the script and plot.

Yuan is jealous of Niao and Ling Buyi 's relationship 😌 but on the other side he always stand with him for her help and protection ❤️
Love how Consort Yue could clearly see through miss luo's scheming, her servant spread the news, meanwhile when shaoshang was pushed into the lake she was witnessing everything but didn't help her ...there is more to come
OMG. This is what you call REVENGE. General LBY is indeed capable, he’s someone you shouldn’t mess with well except ofcourse if you are Shaoshang. These couple fights of them are just ways for them to know each other more and strengthen their bond. Thank God his and her majesty is there to guide them specially Niaoniao.

He ment that she shouldn't bother taking revenge because he is the one supposed to protect and avenge her.
That is precisely why Shaoshang was so mad. He made it a big deal to manipulate her into trusting him and relying on him, which she didn’t mind doing ultimately because she loved him. However, he never returned the sincerity. He never trusted her or relied on her with his secret. He acted alone and even chose death rather than implicate her. She was willing to give her everything, even her life yet he wasn’t willing to face the consequences with her.

I’ve seen it. I really feel for him, do jaded by his parents dysfunctional marriage that he can’t trust love and marriage but still feels compelled somehow to help look out for Niao Niao.

But General Ling Buyi Zishing saw her first and was very intrigued by her “fearless” (or gutsy-but-foolish tactics) for justice.

This time around, I didn't feel like NN was being untrusting of LBY when she didn't tell him or feeling like she was on her own. She does trust him but she also does stand up for herself, naturally and irrespective of him. So, to me, this was just her standing up for herself.

I get why Shaoshang didn’t tell BUYI, she didn’t want to rely on him too much cause he was consuming her and she was afraid to yield a big part of herself. His comment on how she treats Lou Yao differently shows that. She is afraid of her feelings for him and for someone who’s been sheltered for so long, this detail in the script was perfect.

Episode 37 could be titled Shaoshang’s revenge and the Crown Princess’s true colors. The 5th Princess ruined the Empress’s birthday banquet by creating a scene in which she framed Shaoshang and the 5th Prince for meeting secretly. That night we see Shaoshang leave her room and by her posture, gait and history we all know she’s about to get revenge for being pushed into the lake and framed for being unfaithful. That morning Shaoshang arrives early at the Empress’s palace just before a screaming, wet, beaten and ash covered 5th Princess arrives screaming death threats at her! I loved when Shaoshang asked her why would I do this? And the 5th Princess can’t help but blurt out, “Because we..” All this was the beginning of the end for the arrogant 5th Princess. I really appreciated Consort Yue’s slap to the 5th Princess who had been arrogantly disrespectful of her, the Empress and the Emperor. And how Consort Yue blamed the 5th Princess for framing Shaoshang and ruining the Empress’s banquet. “But there’s no proof!” Screams the 5th Princess. Here’s proof! Replies Buyi with his usual perfect timing! ❤️ Apparently he’d been busy himself the night before. Although the accomplice fainted under pressure from the 5th Princess, the 5th Prince is happy to recount the truth about both events at the lake. With the 5th Princess blurting out herself that she had thrown snakes at Shaoshang while she was struggling in the water! The Emperor punished the 5th Princess with a day in the mausoleum followed by house arrest. Consort Yue forces jealous Miss Luo to punish her maid who had announced the “secret meeting”. Consort Yue knows that Miss Luo is not the innocent she appears to be. Later in reply to the Empress’s question of how the Emperor will punish the women that helped the 5th Princess he replies that he will investigate their fathers and brothers to see if they are behaving in the same entitled and bullying fashion. Ling Buyi, the 5th Prince and even Yuan Shanjian team up as the righteous hand of God to rain down retribution upon the top 7 officials who were also apparently involved in bribery! When the last official accused Buyi of fearing power (5th Princess) his reply was a kick breaking his leg! The 5th Princess has already been taken care of. After a day in the mausoleum the still arrogant 5th Princess arrived home to begin he house arrest only to find the bodies of her aides neatly arrayed in her courtyard. She screams in anguish as the head eunuch conveys her Father’s words that if she doesn’t repent these aides would not be the only ones to die. And in the ending scenes we see that the Crown Princess is making the Empress feel worse and that she is as she described herself, jealous and filthy. 😢

I might be the only one thinking this way and that's okay. I understand Ling Buyi being angry for her not confiding in him with exactly what happened on the night she was crying. But when he starts their conversation out in this episode 22:16"Did you cry asking me to hug you that night because you were upset that they bullied you?" I asked myself, as a general who has aways been extremely sharp at picking up on the clues he really wasn't that night. I think he was more distracted in his mindset coming into the room of wanting to be close to her and missing her. He didn't pick up totally on the clue when she was asking for him to teach her in the future ways to react if someone was bullying her. He responded to her "with me here who dares to bully you?" Her immediate response was "But what if you aren't here?" To me that was a red flag telling him she had been bullied, he wasn't around, that is why I am crying, that why I am telling you I miss home and what can I do next time. She even gave a short demonstration of how it started with the push from behind. He did still give her a chance later to explain further which she chose not to. Her actions that night by asking him to hug her showed that he had come a long way in becoming her safe place, someone she could trust from where she had been. I can also understand Shaoshang being reluctant to tell all because the Empress birthday banquet was the next day, and she probably was afraid of how he would react. Shaoshang apparently had the Empress's birthday banquet looming in part of her head as they were gazing on the bed with each other as the promise he made her proved to be him playing at the banquet. She was all about protecting the Empress's birthday before she took out her revenge. With his revenge that followed the next day, she may have been a little justified in choosing to wait until after the banquet, but she should have told him after it. They both need to work on not hiding information from each other.
I agree. Some people's comments are so biased. They say she is arrogant, selfish, and thinks she's right etc. But no one is willing to see her improvements. They compare the main characters' commitment to their relationship. But they have forgotten what she wanted in the first place. She never wanted to marry him. She wanted to marry a normal person and have a free life. He is the one who forced her and her family to a marriage. So it's not right to expect her to share her life with him immediately. He should tolerate her faults because he is the one who proposed to her even though she told him her faults. Once she realised his place in her life, she decided to treat him her best. She came to the palace and learnt everything she never wished to do. She changed her lifestyle too.
She couldn't bother him and Her Majesty by complaining and she didn't have any evidence to prove the bullying. Everyone says that he is concerned about her but they don't think that she could think of him too. She had reasons not to tell. But if he thought about what she said while crying he could have easily figured it out. Both of them are clever and quick-witted. People say that she doesn't share her life with him but in the end, you will get to see who has not shared the secrets. She hid nothing compared to what he has been hiding. He is doing that to protect her but he was trying to get his revenge too. If he couldn't give up on his revenge for their safety he should not have asked her to marry. I can not blame him for trying to take his revenge because if I was in this situation I would have killed every sinner by myself. But he dragged her into chaos along with him even though he didn't mean to hurt her. He should have known that as her matters are his matters, everything he does affects her too. She had to go through a lot because he couldn't give up on her while he could.
She can not be expected to appreciate his effort as she didn't want to marry him in the beginning. But once she realised how protective he is towards her she determined to change her whole life. You will get to see what I say in the upcoming episodes. When she trusted him to the core he gave up one her.

Okay . So a point comes in everyone's life when they realise that Now it is time to grow up . Same goes for Niao Niao ... She was a rebel and always did things her way . I can understand why her character is like that because she is a 15 year old girl who was never protected and had to survive on her own. But after this ... She really grows up and devotes herself to LBY .
We all know teenagers can never be controlled by nagging, comparing or punishing them . Their minds needs to be nurtured with love , care, understanding. By doing so you can win them over and mold them .
Empress did the same with Niao Niao , that's why she is so devoted to ber Majesty. Same goes for LBY , he was patient with her . Because in the starting of their relationship he committed the mistake of controlling her . But with time he changed and became patient with her .
Their relationship is really amazing. Real ups and downs which a normal couple faces . Not able to fully trust at the beginning of the relationship. Not able to share your problems. This series really showed how trust is built between couples after they go through hardships and many up nd downs.❤
