We have found that reducing everything by 1/2 makes a perfect game. (two guns for an arty battery, 2 stands for inf & cav regiments) Large enough to get several brigades on the table and involve 4 to 6 players. Small enough to look impressive on a 4x6 foot table. Also, your figures go twice as far. We even made rulers marked in 1/2 inch segments. We just continue to refer to inches but we're actually measuring half inches without any confusion. Works a treat!

I love the models, I *love* the models. But when I realized you would need three starter boxes and a 20-foot board to play the smallest scenario from the ACW box (plus the unending hell of trying to paint Confederates), I lost a lot of steam.

I’m still struggling through my ACW army build and paint. I like the way one can field unpainted armies (red and blue). Attention challenged will possibly take longer to complete a painted army but depending on your paint style each figure of a strip on 10, can take “almost” as long to do as an individual 10mm or 15mm figure!! Bottom line…well done Warlord Games!!!

Going to sound like a broken record here but warlords missed a trick by the width of the number of figures .....if they had put a 5 or 6 man frontage then I'd say others like me would have bought this and happily gamed other rules with other club members but heyhoo. Great video though and the guys seemed to enjoy their day and that's what it's all about.

I’m retired. I have a lifetime collection of 1:72 Napoleonic figures. French, British & Prussians. Hundreds of figures. Artillery, Infantry, Calvary. Prussian, British & French commanders figures as well. I also have the La Haye Sainte 1:72 Waterloo set. I’m going to paint & base them over the next couple of months. What rules can I use to play a table top game with them? When basing them I will use Canadian pennies ( no longer legal tender) as individual soldier bases & will then make a penny indent into thin styrofoam larger squares. Should I mount them in 2 figures by 3 figures or 2 figures by 4 figures? Should they be in 3 by 4 groupings?
I’m excited about the project. I’ve a friend who’s going to help for the first couple of weeks. Hopefully we will get a game in before he has to head back home.

      Hi Kevin,
Black Powder is the perfect system for this kind of wargaming! The 'classic' is to have 5 stands of 4 figures each (two-by-two) make up each battalion, but it's really up to your preference, so long as the overall frontage is the same on each battalion!

@@warlordgamesVery helpful. Thank you. I’m getting a BlackPowder Epic… package with miniature commanders, casualty markers & rules I believe for the 100 day campaign. The scale of the package I believe is 15mm for the command figures. Not a problem as all my fighters are 1:72. Rules of play to best use when measuring distances of movement & fire would be 15mm rules rather than 28mm rules?

So I'm confused, is this actually a smaller-scaled black powder, or "normal" black powder but with 15mm (13.5mm?) figures instead of 28mm? What I mean is, does it require the same gigantic tables and such that the non-Epic game has, or is this designed for smaller tables? Is it functionally the same game or are there tweaks for the smaller scale? Table size/space required has been the biggest factor for me getting into Black Powder, without having to do some modifications and stuff myself.
