The Most Uphill First Half of a parkrun? Running a Very Hilly Beacon Hill Country Park parkrun

- Wow! This is a tough parkrun! I headed here for event 68 as I needed this event number to take my Wilson Index over 100. We headed down to Leicestershire to check out this parkrun and stumbled across a parkrun gem! This is definitely a run of two halves with an incredibly tough start but an extremely fast final 2 kilometres.
I can't emphasise enough how much you'll miss out on if you do not stay and explore this incredible place after parkrun. The parkrun route only touches the surface of the beauty of the country park and without a walk up to the rocks and trig point at the top then your visit is incomplete.
Huge thanks to Fiona and the whole team at Beacon Hill Country Park parkrun for a fantastic day. This is definitely a parkrun that should be added to your list... but maybe do some hill training first!

The mixture of relief and excitement in your voice when you said "The cows are in a separate field" made me chuckle. Nicola's kryptonite
Urgh... Just went through a cow field on my run today! 😳😳😳🙈🤣
I did that Parkrun last year Nicola. One of my favs - but as ever your comprehensive guide shows so much more. Keep them coming, love your vlogs. 👏👏
Thanks Paul 🤗 I hate it when I have to dash off after a parkrun. Exploring the place and getting to know the community is such a big part of it for me 😃
That looks like a pretty good parkrun Nicola, would love that downhill finish!
The second half is pretty epic! 😃😃😃
Nice to see that my First Timers Briefing didn't end up on the cutting room floor
This made me laugh 🤣 Of course it didn't! 😃😃😃🤗
And thanks for volunteering 🙏🏻😃
Another cool run! It is pretty funny hearing you talk about the highest points in that county. I used to live in the midwestern part of the US and that was about our high points too. Now -- it's about 11,000 feet here in the mountain west. Definitely some thin air up there. That walk in that tree maze was really cool. The ParkRun looked pretty challenging as well but that path was well groomed. You always go to cool places and love the weekly content! Can't wait for the next installment.
Thanks Eddie, maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to live near some real mountains 😃🤗 I'd absolutely love that! 😃
Beacon Hill is one of my locals ones, was my closest before Sence Valley started. A great parkrun and a great country park, they do the "Rise of the Pheonix" run round there in June, which is 8km round Beacon Hill - safe to say, the parkrun uses the less brutal of the inclines - think it's mentioned in Danny's Beacon Hill profile that they tried a number of different course options but they were too brutal. In the past those cows have been allowed to roam freely in the public areas of the park. Thanks for mentioning Bardon Hill, took a group of joggers and walkers up there last week and then enjoyed the magnificent views. Notice how you also mentioned Whitwick, actually pronounced Whit-ICK - those pesky silent W's :)
Great video and you captured the essence of the parkrun and the park.
Thanks, ooh interesting about the silent W 🤣 Spot the tourist! 😳🤣 Thank goodness they chose the parkrun route that they did!!! 😱
Loved the video Nicola. Beacon Hill is my nearest parkrun to home but I can't remember the last time I went up to the trig point and rocks at the top. I'll make sure I'll have a venture up there soon. Thanks 👍
Thanks Paul, you're lucky to have it near you. I reckon up there on a sunny day is a pretty spectacular place to be 😍
Sounds very similar to Mount Edgcumbe in Cornwall; that's uphill for 2km then downhill with some spectacular views of Plymouth Sound at the top
Ooh that sounds lovely! 😍 And tough! 🤣
This looks lovely. Another added to the ambition list!
It's such an incredible place! 😍
Looks a lovely place to run
It was so nice, a really beautiful place 😍
Love a good labyrinth! This one reminds me of the one at Cragside.
Ooh I love Cragside 😃
love watching your videos hope poppys knee is better now like you i love park runs so much good fun
Thanks, and yes Poppy's knee is much better now 🤗
@@NicolaRuns going to be doing a 10k at Marsden on 1st August at 6.45 with Grim Up North events love their events
This is on my to do list. I definately want to do Beacon Hill at some stage. I was up in Leicestershire three weeks ago & checked out Belvoir Castle’s winter course. I love exploring parkrun courses to see what else is there. I never understand people who do the runs & head straight off although I did that yesterday as I had already explored Staunton Country Park at Havant back in 2020 when parkrun was suspended. I loved the labyrinth & the viewpoint in your video. I didn’t know Leicestershire had a volcano !!! 😆
Yeah... It's funny isn't it as it's so flat! I'm with you, I think people are missing out if they don't explore 😞
Ran this one yesterday!
Hope you got some good views at the top! 😍😍😍
@@NicolaRuns Certainly did! Being local means I can visit the park outside parkrun too, it's so beautiful ❤
@@Ryan-1704 awww you're so lucky! I'd love to run around here 😍
I miss running with you and seeing cows!!❤❤ 😂 🐄
You don't love me anymore! You love the gym 😜🤣 I'm here to shield behind you in cow fields anyday 🤣🤣🤣
@@NicolaRuns yeah soz...😜😜😜😜
More uphill than Holyrood?
Definitely a longer hill than Holyrood... I'm off to compare the Strava trace of each!
Just compared and yes, a longer hill and a higher total elevation gain! Plus trail not tarmac which makes it harder too 😳
@@NicolaRuns yuck! Good wee leg tester. Need a sober night before it.
@@virtuocitygowf7272 definitely! 🤣🤣🤣
That looked like a tricky one , did that poor kid get his phone back intact ? Just winding down after the car boot , another financial disaster lol but i always enjoy selling at it , have a great week kiddo 😉
He did bless him. One of the other runners picked it up and gave it back to him 🤗 I'm pleased you enjoyed yourself nonetheless 😊
