Jiří Bělohlávek was receiving offers to return to the position of chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic for many years. According to him, David Mareček, however, was the first CEO willing to listen to him. The year 2012 marked the beginning of their professional and friendly relationship. Under Bělohlávek's leadership, the orchestra once again conquered the world's most prestigious concert halls and made a number of highly acclaimed recordings. 🎶
In the documentary film, he describes his collaboration with opera singer Karita Mattila and he also reminiscences together with ,,his most successful student and great friend’’ Jakub Hrůša on their first meeting, during which they played the piano duet. With his wife Anna, they reflect on life's greatest obstacles and the growth that overcoming them has brought.
By the way, can you imagine a birthday cake with marzipan figurines of all 130 Philharmonic musicians?... Watch closely. 👀

Thank you so much for this. I have loved the Czech Phil since hearing Supraphon recordings from age 5 ( i am 75 now). I grew up with all the Janacek opera recordings and the symphonies of Martinu and many many orchestral recordings. My favourite Czech conductors are Neumann, Ancerl and Belohlavek ( as well as others). I visit Prague at least 3 times a year mainly for the wonderful opera performances and also for numerous concerts by the Czech Phil ( and also the Prague Symphony in Municipal House). I loved this documentary . I wish there could be one on Ancerl too . I visit his grave up in Vysehrad whenever im in Prague.
