      What about hilary Hahn?

    • @aidentheabsurd
      @aidentheabsurd Před 2 lety +13

      @@kaikirr technically flawless, yet too robotic. Lacks the subtle hints of musicality that Kerson presents to us here perfectly. Apart from that, Kerson has a broader and way deeper sound. Though, I must add: the latter observation is merely a matter of preference.

    • @aegeanenjoyer668
      @aegeanenjoyer668 Před rokem +3

      @@aidentheabsurd I've noticed the same. Hahn lacks musicality and the technique to play Ernst at the proper tempo. Leong does a wonderful job with his rubato, perhaps the best in this piece alongside Feng's and maybe better, while Hahn just plays at a slow tempo like a robot since she doesn't have the mastery to play in any other way. Jansen would be far better for example.
      It's a pattern rather than an individual observation.

      @@aidentheabsurd I normally love Hahn's playing, but not for this piece. Her rendition is too slow and too measured, which is strange because she plays other pieces with much more passion. Maybe I'm listening to an older recording too, and she'd play with more nuance later in life. I certainly think she has the technical proficiency for it. Additionally, Kerson's instrument is PERFECT for this piece. In general I prefer a Guarneri to a Strad anyway for its richer tones and slight darkness versus the sweetness of the Strad.
