- Here is a little animation I did in Procreate, and How I did it.
If you want to learn to Paint, Draw and Animate in Procreate.
I have two big Procreate courses on Schoolism:
schoolism.com/instructors/nik...
Almost a weeks worth for a 7 second animation, we truly MUST appreciate artists and animators! Amazing as usual Niko
I'm an animator and clients aren't very understanding of how much work it takes, a lot of times they ask for stylised long videos in a very short period of time and get mad when I reject the comission.
@@smji5269 One time a client called me lazy because I told him I couldn't animate over an entire new 50 min podcast every week XD
2D Animation especially deserves more spotlight these days. I love both 3D and 2D but the film industry made a mistake replacing nearly all 2D Anims with 3D.
This makes me happy. Thank you for noticing and i mean it I’m not just being nice
I am just now learning procreate, and I did a cartoon of a loved one recently. I couldn’t believe how powerfully the brushes and the smoothing helped create the final product. But watching this was simply magical. It makes me happy knowing I can learn these skills and apply them in my own way for my own needs. You’ve given me such insight into key frames and animation. I will look into your program.
making the background was impressive
impressive
Very
Very impressive
I found everything impressive
The fact this was all done in Procreate is crazy impressive
imagine how hard old school animation was 20-30 years ago with no computer program assisting :P
@@benhartart9487 you do realize they had computer programs for animation in both 2000 and 1990 right...?
@@benhartart9487 czcams.com/video/-vSGIrFwKKw/video.html
Thank you very much guys and girls for all the support and great comments❤️❤️! 🥳Painting the background took about 5-7 hours, and the animation took almost a week😁
Can u please tell me how did u animate the snow?
DAMMNN
A lot of people don't realize how much time animation truly takes.
@@seolmirae5207 he tells you how he does so in the video. Please watch. It’s pretty ingenious. I especially love the simple work flow of creating random lines first then duplications then flipping
@@anisomniac5931 yeah! So truth!!
holy crap that was so cool and you just presented it so casually, im in awe of your talent and i hope my skills can one day reach that level. you’re truly an inspiration!
Same, man
I’d love to see how ur layers were organized after the whole process, this would really help me understand the background and silhouette etc
Exactly what I’m thinking from scratch
I enjoyed each second of that video ❤❤
Same
Yeah
You drawing is also best
THIS IS SO UNDERRATED THIS BEAUTIFUL
programs ?
"I was inspired by Klaus, not that this looks like that"
Oh dude completely!! I was thinking the background and character design reminded me of the concept art I've seen for that film. Incredible work!!! Thanks for such a good video
Also. I'm really interested in how you placed the snow animation on top of the existing layers. How do you layer separate animations on one another?
That is exactly what I thought when watching the clip!
i can't believe you made this on Procreate, like, how in the world the app didn't explode after all those layers?
A newer ipad runs procreate super smooth
@@cheesecube420 he was not using the M1 in here though, and i have the 2020 ipad pro and procreate has some limitations in layers
@@Mayeru not if you get the 1tb version you get more Ram even on a non M1 version
I'm assuming he made several files and put them together in a video editor
@@kotor1357 yeah, that's exactly what he does, he actually generates different parts on different files and then merge and transport finished parts into the main one or the "parent" one, but that is like a WHOLE process
I can’t believe this was done in Procreate. Amazing artwork and animation!
Amazing!
Thank you!
Everything about this was impressive. From background, to character, to snow
That is so amazing! You took that to another level with the small details like the reflection on the bottle!
Love this idea of keeping your character next to the anim to trace/ stay on model. Definitely giving this a try!
Holy cow! That was nothing short of amazing.
man the composition of the shot is so satisfying. The cold colors really set the mood and make me feel like I'm in winter next to a fire. Also the Animation is really professional. I love this so much.
@Jake Folk ... to watch netflix right?
Wow, this looks so great! I love all the different elements, the atmosphere in this entire animation is so strong. I've been wanting to try my hand at small animations but it's hard to figure out how to do environmental stuff. Seeing the way you did the snow, for example, is so useful and interesting. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you and you are very welcome :-)
Whoa this is incredible!! Like literally everything about it is so cool, the style, the color scheme, the character design, of course the movement and glow of the actual animation. You are such a talented artist, how do you now have a million subscribers yet?? Amazing work man, keep it up!!!
Thank you very much!
This is crazy! Just a few short seconds worth of animation, yet so much work investing into it all! Makes you have a greater appreciation for the full length movies we used to watch as kids where it was ALL done this way
Hehe, yes. Animation does take time!
I'm so glad to find that stuff. Learning from masters it's what I've been looking for.
Thank you for this Nikolai, just amazing to watch it all come together. I'm stunned how quickly you back out 3 am environment together. Working directly with value to create diapers and then push them all to a color range is a good tip. Most images don't need more than 2 colors to really work, gotta keep that in mind for myself when working with color
gorgeous as it begins to really pop and come to life. Thank you
Your talent is so absolutely astounding! I'm so amazed and in awe!
So a joy for the eyes to watch. Thank you for sharing! Really inspirational. Magnifico
I never knew that jesper would have to face this situation ever. 😢 Claus you shouldn't have left him alone.
So masterfully shifting between the values and colours, such style and class!
Man, I learnt more from this 11 minute video about animation than from decades of watching cartoons and anime! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 love it, thanks so much!
you are so underrated, sir. your artworks sre really amazing and i'm always looking forward to them! i love your works 😍
Wow! It's very interesting to see your process of work! Thank you so much for share, this has been very helpful!
That is some insane work, seeing the attention to detail and processes is amazing!
I really love the color scheme, lights, and darks. ❤️
Absolutely love it! I recently started learning animation on procreate and just me writing my name in the most basic way with butterflies around took SO LONG. Hands down to you my man, I know this took a crazy amount of patience and effort 👏🏽
Hehe, thank you. Animation takes time, but is very fun when you can play it in the end
Absolutely amazing talent buddy love the work, as well as the dedication it takes to show us your entire process!
Thank you very much :-)
You've done fantastically well with this! Loving the background as well.
This is absolute magic. Especially watching how the snow was created. Seriously inspiring!
Thank you very much :-)
I’ve been using Procreate and FlipaClip this past month and really enjoying this , and then I’ve just seen your work and realise the full potential , quite frankly mind blowing! Truly inspiring work !
Same i find animating in flip a clip so tiring tho T-T
@@k3n972 it seems there is no free decent alternative for ipad for... anything. Relying on apple is horrible :(
@@HannahAgra ToonSquid is good, not free but it's only £10 :)
You are soooo patient ! 64 frames must have taken forever to draw ! Thank you for sharing, it looks absolutely amazing ! Great job !
Thank you very much. Yes, animation does take patience :-) but very fun to see the result
@@nikolailockertsenhow many weeks it took you to make this? Please reply.
@@akhilnarayan5392 Thank you for asking. I spent many short hours over a very long time. So abit hard to tell. But if I did it in back to back workdays, I quess 2-3 weeks
@@nikolailockertsen thanks man... I'm looking forward for making animation...I know sketch and drawings but have zero knowledge about any softwares...can you suggest a free good software for pc..and do I need a tablet too?
@@akhilnarayan5392 I do all my work on the iPad with Procreate and Procreate Dreams. That is really the combo I would reccomend. You need to buy the iPad + Pencil, but the software is just a one time buy of 35 USD all together! All updates are free!!
This is soooooo good coming from procreate ! Thank you for this ! It’s sometimes difficult to put the animation in that you want and work with the layering altogether 🥴 it’s great to have people who explain it !
I have no words. Amazing job!!
You are my fav Procreate Artist, you make it so easy and creative
he will not even reply you

@@kakapostudios6691 “reality is often disappointing”; he is telling the truth.
@@jomare66 Well he did see their comment, so no need being negative!
Thank you :-)
Incredible!! Thank you for sharing the process. I took your Schoolism course last year and learned a lot from it! Did you duplicate the file and do the animations across separate files, or did you actually have enough room for all the layers in the one file? I am always astounded by the amount of work that goes into a short animation clip like this. So good!
This is so good! Thank you for sharing the making of... I love seeing animations come together like this how it was created and all. Awesome job! nice coloring.
I have no words, this is so amazing, you’re very talented! I learnt a lot watching this!
This was absolutely amazing!!! I was looking around for the best tips on how to animate in procreate and you were by far the best. Thank you so much. Although, there’s still so much I have to learn in knowing what to use on the app lol. I would love to study under you.
Thank you very much. I have two very good courses here schoolism.com/instructors/nikolai-lockertsen
This guy’s incredible! Kudos! Good job! Liked and subscribed!
Everything just so smooth and creative! Learned a lot! Thank you for making these outstanding videos!
Wow! This video was so good! The time and detail you put in is incredible. You’re so talented it’s so enjoyable to watch. You inspire me. Thank you for this! 😊
this is quite literally insane.... the fact that you can just create this is amazing dude. you are incredibly talented
Thank you so much :-)
This looks amazing! I just made my first ever animation. All I have is Procreate, and it was hard sometimes. I had a hard time comprehending how you made all these layers work in Procreate - that must have been a lot of merging in the end! Really amazing, the animation is so smooth!
That was AWESOME!!!
Straight to animation ... i love these kind of videos
I absolutely love this!
It was wonderful to not only see the development from drawing concept to the final illustration along with seeing the framing process of the animation.
Wonderfully done I’m so happy I found your channel, looking forward to going back and seeing more come from you.
this was so beautiful-
You’re amazing! Thank you for this insight friend. Your dedication and patience is incredible. Lots of love from New Zealand❤️
Do your classes cover any sort of camera movement, I have never seen any procreate tutorials for camera movement?
In rough animator u have that
@@quesodecabra9937 ohh what a nicely timed reply, I just downloaded enough animator and am having a lot of trouble figuring it out, but I’m super excited about figuring out that camera feature, it is confusing me though and I don’t see any good tutorials
@@Dandydust397 its very intuitive but be careful beacuse sometimes crashes and u can lose the work, duplicate each project every time u advance in them just in case
Camera movement in Procreate is not very doable. But I use LumaFusion to composit my backgrounds and animation from Procreate if I want a cameramovement. I got a tutorial for it here gumroad.com/nikkos_tutorials it is the one called "making a painting into a movie.
Hey Nikolai, this animation is beautiful and just so realistic! Just wanted to know the time it took you to complete this entire piece
One week.
5-7 hours to color the background alone
Beautiful. Inspirational.
Love it!! I haven't really seen people get into environment animation, and this is something I'm definitely gonna try out!! : D Thank you for posting this, and well wishes for 2021!! : )
I‘m only a beginner when it comes to digital drawing and I always wondered why artists keep filling their objects with grey before colorize them? I‘ve seen this everywhere and I don‘t get why they keep doing this.
I could be wrong, but usually for masking, a method that allows you to use layers for your drawing. When I use the grey, it’s usually to allow me to see where I need to colour on next. But I am only amateur so I could be wrong!
The real answer to that technique is for having a good read of values (light & shadow) for the scene. So when he’s done with it he can colorize without changing values. I hope it makes sense!
They fill their objects with grey so they can basically quickly select that block of grey and make a selection without having to lasso the shape every single time. It’s a real time saver! Of course, you can use it in other ways too like the ones mentioned here.
The commitment level is.....very commendable. 🙏
That’s so beautiful
Incredible stuff! Thanks for sharing & commenting through your process
This is beautiful
This is the coolest thing i’ve ever seen
Omg this was amazing!!! Im sooo impressed!
