Otto made a branch timeline in that exact moment to save her. So in that timeline alone she will live. He did not affect the primary timeline, his long speech while walking to the tree basically detailed how he felt about the valkyries and Theresa, he loved them all and used means of force to make them stronger and nurture them. He wanted to make them hate him specifically because he needed it for his end goal. The GOAT of fiction villains if I've ever seen any.
you should react to the Honkai Impact animation of brilliant bright, i promise you it would make you happy when you watch it, its an old anniversary animation honkai released but took down in the past years
"How does this affect the timeline"
It was mentioned you can never truly change the past because the imaginary tree will not allow it.
So my understanding is this, Otto's plan in their eyes was that he would erase the present, to make the event 500 years ago the real present, meaning nothing in the past was changed cause there was nothing after that in the first place. No butterfly effect cause nothing ever came after Kallen is saved, and nothing after that ever existed.
But everyone was deceived by that idea,. Otto's real plan was to use Kiana's void powers to sever Otto's "bonds to the Imaginary Tree's laws" and for him to truly tap into the imaginary tree. Still, he won't be able to rewrite the past, but instead, he was still able to make the events from 500 years ago a SECOND present reality. So somewhere, Kallen is living in a world running simultaneous to our own.
Please correct me if I'm wrong or shed light if there's a better/true explanation. (I just finished Kolosten myself after not playing for a year).

@@Carsu12 He probably became a better person since like Otto became how he is because Kallen died due to his actions on trying to save her from execution, that memory tormented him for years.
@@MishMashi I don't know if this was actually true. Pretty sure it was just the current Otto dying in that timeline. But it didn't matter given Kallen couldn't be revived in that timeline. Thus creating a branch where she did live. He went back into Kostlen in time to directly save her. So, what of the Otto in that timeline? Who knows... He should be alive because nothing was said about him deleting his existence entirely from other timelines.
Am praying those two will actually talk it out this time.
@@MishMashi I'm not sure if that's true, but instead of alternate versions of him, I heard that the clones were embodiments of all the sins and fails he committed in his whole life, that's why they all turn into the giant Honkai beast that killed Kallen, since he was the one who released it

What Otto did was create a new branch on the Imaginary Tree which is creating an alternate future where Kallen survives. But in doing so his life dissipated so yeah he's pretty much dead. This chapter was the conclusion to Otto's story. In the end he was able to saved the woman who he cherishes the most in the whole world.
I hate that he costed us lives of people we cared about but at least it all wasn’t in Vain I guess

Otto is both the antagonist, a villain, a protagonist and pretty much the writer of the whole story if HI3, without him, we wouldn't have HI3's story. For better or for worse, it's thanks to him we got HI3's story as a whole, and seeing him finally succeed his lifelong goal is both sad and exhilarating.
All I can say is regression is one of the best songs known to humankind hoyoverse cooking the best tracks in that studio

Based on the current chapter story, the cutscenes, and the next gacha, there is a good chance of a new cinematic, and it looks like that'll beat all of the others.

Dude is the epitome of a side character the world did not deserve but needed, he only saw Kallen as the main character of his world. His time began to stop when Kallen died and yearned to once again perpetuate the gears of his clock. Man chose hard mode to revive Kallen so she can be "herself", a heroic Kaslana, once again.
Otto could have gone the easy path and picked one of any number of bubble universes in the Sea of Quanta where Kallen wasn't dead and went over there. But he wanted HIS Kallen to have a true timeline. And for that, he had to infringe on the power of god.
Actually, it's stated he did try that but no matter which world he saw or whatever he did, Kallen always died. Those clones that he fought were versions of him that failed to save Kallen in other bubble universe
She died in every other bubble universes iirc, what he did was alter the 'cause', which means he created a new branch in the tree meaning he created a new future for her where she didn't die instead.
4:08 I was saying the exact same thing while watching this almost a year ago. Im glad he actually pulled it off because I'll actually start to hate him if he messed it up. RIP Otto, the story hasnt been the same since he vanished.
edit: just to clarify some things. He actually didnt save her, in his timeline, at least. He just made a new world where some kind of force prevented and save Kallen from dying. He vanished from his original timeline and popped out in a new one. Sad thing is that Kallen of that world wont find out what actually happened and what Otto of the original world had to go through just to prevent her death there

An interesting thing about 'his timelime'. Don't know if you recall but it's vivid for me as a returning captain who just recently finished this part. In the dialogue leading up to the animation, Otto refers Kiana and Durandal's timeline as 'your world' and that he would create a new future for 'my world'. As some people said, Otto's world, time, essentially his life stopped when Kallen died. After the animation, he also mentions "that is the story of how I went to the future..." when speaking with Kallen.
It really doesnt matter at least to Otto, so long as she lives thats all he needed to say:finally i can rest now

I don't really hate the guy tbh even when I used to play HI3 back then and even now I kinda like the guy more than I use to at least. I mean given the chance we might also do the same thing as Otto.
When I played this, I was wholly prepared to see Otto go. I was expecting and I have steeled myself to not shed a single tear for him. It was going all good for me, until the final walk came. It was hell enduring through that, but when he started talking about Theresa I just couldn't held it in any longer.
He was a clown. He was pathetic. His whole life was nothing but a joke that went for way longer that it should. But he was nonetheless worthy of respect. His dedication to his single goal is something that a scatterbrain like me could only wish for.

Otto is a very well story-written villain that's hard for us to hate him. We do love him especially his appearance in Cooking With Valkyries. And also one of the events where Otto cooks for Theresa when she's sleeping lol. And we should thank Ayanga for being the voice for such an amazing song.

Ik this video is a year old but I’d just like to point out Otto was never evil. He was a villain but never evil. The was no malicious or ill intent. He did it for her, for the one he’d loved so dearly. And this brings up the question of the true gray of morals. How there’s no good and bad. Just good people doing bad things and bad people doing good. There’s no dark without light and no light without dark. And it all comes back to a middle ground. The gray morals

he didnt change the future, he made a new timeline where in that one kallen lived instead of dying when she saved that kid and instead of getting stabbed by the honkai, otto changed it into her just blocking the honkai's attack

Otto made a world where Kallen Lived, which implies that no other branch of time had this happen. In Honkai star rail Loucha might be a derivative version of Otto, similar to time variants from marvel. Where the equivalent of otto, Loucha accepted the death but didn't let go of his memory or love for his beloved, and chose not to make the world aroud him suffer for his selfish desire.
It's more likely to be an expy as those are canon in the Hoyoverse, and well...
My wild theory is that he is an Otto with his Kallen in a planet whose setting is similar to Kolosten, but something happened and lost her Kallen, yet instead of chosing the regular Otto path, he is mourning her death and in a sort of way, using his abilities as a way to honour his beloved one's wish to aid and "heal" other people lives instead of the standard Abundance freaks (this is from a recent chapter where he admits hes not like many others who took the path of Abundance who are obsessed with life and immortality).
The coffin may refer as something related to a tragic event in his past, and considering someone in a text mentioned it to be a "sin", it must be cause of something Luocha did, hence that (something that can be reinforced thanks to a mention Jingliu did about him).
So your assumption of him not letting go, yet not making the world burn may be right.

2 things that otto did well but fans of the game failed to realise:1 he did all this to give kallen the life they stole from her despite her being their savior, 2nd he also tried safekeeping her daughter(and his) guess who is their daughter K423 is their biological born daughter only named K423 to keep her safe while the other from K1 to K422 are dopplegangers, I mean why ia there no K424/425 and so on? cause K423 is real and not just a robot or whatever

@@colt1903 honestly if you don't mind playing a bit of mob fighting in story mode, you can actually read the story without actually fully playing all of the game's content save for some other story that's in other game modes
You can pretty much just read the VNs and manga, but that's about it, your limit.

Through diving their own world's Imaginary Roots (not the actual Imaginary Tree because they would be nothing but even smaller than a atom in the face of real Tree) Otto created new more roots with infinite future just for her, he didn't use their own world by cutting it's timeline and connect it to 1700s but instead just branch out different worlds for her.
Thus, not disturbing the earth we know.
the craziest part is that he had no intention of surviving this. If bringing her back cost him his life, he would use it.
So far, it seems like theyre going the different timeline route like DBZ did. The main timeline we've been in will continue to be as if kallen had died and Otto did everything up until now. However, there is a new timeline where Kallen survives, and by extension I assume Otto never goes fuckboi villain either.
I would imagine that this is the timeline that leads into Honkai Star Rail, but I honestly still havent even finished APHO 2 to see if THAT sets it up or if Star Rail is just some rando timeline lol.
He had no choice really. After years of searching for a solution, will of honkai revealed that sacrificing his own life is the only way to allow Kallen to survive via other timelines.
I'm pretty sure Otto would not Exist in the other Timelines since he sacrificed his Existence here and not just a life. I think?

I don’t like Otto character and I don’t understand why people started to sympathize with him after chapter 28. didn’t do anything except create a new world for Kellen to live and it’s true he did help humanity to fight the Honkai but he put Kellen revival a priority and above any thing else and that’s priority he’s created a lot of damage to humanity and Kiana was just a byproduct for revival. Because when I say he was a great villain the words “Villain” or “SIMP” trigger people on me like I did something horrible to him.
I tried to understand this sympathy for his character in the source below but it didn’t give anything except what i already hated about Otto, that’s when i realized its not the character problem but the people who simp for him.

Yeah, the dude wiped out an entire city, used human beings to his own convenience, but hey... his determination... for just one woman... oh boy, so cool... looks like for the majority of HI3 players, dictators and genocides only need to use a woman's love as excuse and that's it. "I did it for her". Yeah sorry, but nope, I hate and I will hate Otto no matter what, he took the long (and his own) way, instead of sharing Kallen's vision of the world.
If you played honkai let me quote Bronya's line to Kiana at the HoDom Arc.

This is refering to Sirin and her crimes against humanity. Its true that Sirin deserved death for all the crimes she did but that doesnt negate the experiences that turn her into such a monster which was something thay you dont want something to happen to anyone.
The thing is though, without Otto's experiments and his manipulation and scheming, humanity was doomed to be obliterated by honkai. Yes, everything he did was aimed at finding a way to revive Kallen, but all along the way he was creating Valkyries with the strength, heart, courage, and dedication to destroying honkai and paving the way for human civilization to survive. Yes, this came at an immense cost, and thousands suffered and died as a result, but human death and suffering on an even greater scale was all but guaranteed in the absence of those actions. Think about humanity's prospects for survival in a world where K-423 Kiana doesn't exist. Where Theresa doesn't exist. Where Durandal is never sent to the stigma space to learn her true identity and become Palatinus Equinox.
Honkai Impact 3rd seems to be a game that wants players to struggle with moral ambiguities and gray areas. We are tasked with adopting shifting perspectives, by playing as Captain, then as Kiana, then Mei, Bronya, Seele, Veliona, Sirin, Fu Hua, Senti, and eventually even Otto and Kevin, where we literally walk in their footsteps and experience the game/the world from their point of view with the opportunity to hear their thoughts and learn their motivations, fears, and experiences in a way that changes our black and white views about the world and the people fighting for it. Otto and Kevin aren't trying to hurt humanity or civilization, they just have very drastic ideas about what needs to happen in order for human civilization to survive Finality. It's honestly brilliant.
