Im just here for underrated velocity support...
You've come to the right place!🤣
Hahaha hahaha
Love it!
😂
Great video, good performance. I think they would do what they need to do
Really love these 10mm tests. Not because I have a 10mm but because Tools' rants are awesome! 😂 🇺🇸
😆😆😆
The headstamp thing makes sense. Most small ammo companies use/import 3rd party components since its almsot always cheaper to use off the shelf parts. To develop a bullet is crazy expensive (prototyping is an expensive bitch, believe me!), and also white-labelling brass is another expense.
Theres a ton of things in play with that. Scaling and volume plays a huge part in it. Its possible they only white label their brass on their best sellers becuase they can justify the cost, and use pre-made generic headstamps on test products, or ones they're risk-averse on (thinking it may not sell as much).
What it comes down to is whether or not their powder blend of herbs and spices can push a projectile into its butter zone of expansion/penetration. If you reload, we're looking at a result of commercial-scale load development.
😎👊
Some calibres just dont get loaded properly and i dont know why
10mm and 5.7 seem two big culprits
Truth
It would be super interesting to put some hotter .40S&W rounds against some of the 10mm that call themselves 10mm but fall really short. It would be entertaining to see and maybe it might spur some manufacturers to up their game if their 10mm can't outperform the .40S&W.
Some really are that weak.
I have tested .40 S&W 180 xtps at 1150 fps. With the right powder you can absolutely do it. Makes these 10 mm loads seem like weak sauce. These manufacturers need to up their game. If I was paying for 10 mm I’d want more speed too.
@@massltca handloads, Custom, American Gunner or Black? My guess is handloads since you mentioned powder type.
@@alm9951 I used longshot, even at the maximum charge it’s within safe limits. 33,000 psi approximately.
@@massltca i see. Im a .40 S&W fan. Die hard. I found Walt Rauchs' commentary on the .40 very fascinating
The older DoubleTap are 1350 fps for 180gr, it looks like their velocities dropped some more. I'm somewhat disappointed but it was DoubleTap who kept the 10mm Auto on life support when everyone was saying it was a dead caliber (Glock and Colt with the G 20/29 and the Delta Elite kept manufacturing 10mm Auto when others stop). I remember when I got my Glock 29 everyone from sales person to friends were asking me why I bought a 10mm Auto. At the time I used DoubleTap, Reed's Ammunition & Research, CorBon, and Winchester 175gr Silver Tips. A few years later Buffalo Bore came along then SwampFox Ammunition (the hottest loads - owner passed away), and Underwood. Elite and Dallas Reloads had mid range loadings.
😎👊
Sad Double Tap is not loading to their old velocity standards. I have some of their old stuff loaded with Golden Sabre and Gold Dots.
I appreciate the Buffalo Bore ammunition. In exploring the website, Tim seems very serious about producing the best ammunition money can buy and I like that he uses his own guns to get accurate, real world velocities.
Excellent presentation as always. Would love to see the 10mm loaded back up to what made it famous.
Thank you sir.😎👊
As soon as I saw the speeds on the box, I about spit my drink out! 😅As far as speeds, they must be using a full sized frame 1911 in 10mm and took their highest recorded speed. I was going to call this a "Double Fail', but they did good in the gel expansion wise, but the second 200grn showed a much larger wound cavity than the first one.
😎👊
"Weak wrists, weak guns, and greed". It's crazy how funny the truth sounds. Double tap 180 bonded is my edc in my G20 Gen 4 (I'm a big dude who can conceal a big gun), and yes, I concur, this performance is my bare minimum for 10mm. Fantastic test... thank you.
Thank you sir.😎👊
If I'm not mistaken, the 180grs have taken on a hell of a reputation because Razor Dobbs boasts about using them for pistol hunting. (If I was going after big game with a 10, I'd load hardcast or a copper monolithic myself.)
I still have a high opinion of Double Tap's 125gr 10 mil, which are Tac hollow points and one of the best personal defense loads. Thanks again for another documentary about the best millimeter.
😎👊
The copper hollow points are really impressive. In 9mm they need to engineer them to penetrate a little deeper but the expansion size, barrier penetration and consistency of expansion is really impressive.
Razor dobbs was using 155 copper hp from double tap for hogs and deer, and 200 cast for bigger game on a couple of his videos. He is a little different, buy he seems to know what he is doing with his pistol.
Totally with you on this TT. Why do manufacturers go through the trouble of making a bonded round and then not push it to the limit? SMH...save a few pennies on powder but forego a pound of market share. Buffalo Bore is laughing all the way to the bank on these 10's
From watching your 10mm tests, I am learning that a lot of good terminal performing rounds really don't have full 10mm velocities/energies. They'll work, but not my first choice. Thanks.
I think sometimes some folks get too caught up in how pretty it looks in the gel and forget that numbers don't lie.😎👊
There is a reason many of the ammo manufacturers load their 10mm personnel defense rounds closer to .40 S&W- they work. The .40 S&W is a good round for defense against two-legged predators. Obviously the 10mm can be more powerful than .40 S&W, but it's not required for personnel defense.
I agree with you 100% the same is done with 357mag for the most part.
I like when you test 10MM.
😎👊
Glad CZcams's algorithm decided to show me your channel. I'm a fan of the 10mm, and have been since I got my Tanfoglio Witness (Steel frame) 15 years ago. It has been my go-to bear defense gun ever since. I lucked upon a case of Sheepdog range ammo (180 gr, chronying at ~1310fps) for "You're lying" cheap. (500 rounds for around $225, IIRC.) I'm a huge fan of hammer fired DA/SA for wilderness carry and my Witness did everything I wanted it to. But since Sheepdog got out of making ammo, and Underwood&DoubleTap seem to be "playing it safe" I'm down to Buffalo Bore and watching ammo reviews to find a new defense ammo supplier. (And fullhouse range ammo for that matter. If I wanted weak range ammo I'd go with the S&W stuff.)
10MM is my favorite caliber. Man your gel blocks are clear every test do you ever remelt them and reuse them?
Yessir, I reuse the heck out of em. I just spend a lot of time cleaning before I remold them.😆
Best look’n gel on CZcams 👍
DoubleTap used to be very good ammo. A few years ago they started loading there ammo nowhere close to what the box said. Even if you had a 5 inch barrel I think those would have come up short.
Agreed
I'll stick to Buffalo Bore myself. The only time I carry either of my 10's is because of bears or wild piggies. Those might be ok for someone carrying them for EDC. You'd probably lose a lot in the shorter barrels. Great test!
Thank you sir.💥🐗💥
I agree with there needing to be more full power 10mm loads on the shelves, it would be cool to see a full power load like the buffalo more vs some of the weakest in the same weight class. Federal in my experience loads very light 10mm but I’m not sure who’s the absolute weakest.
😎👊
Thanks Brother for taking time out of your day to make this video for us!
Appreciate that, my friend.😎👊
Tools handing out glasses of truth kool-aid, i love it!!
Guarantee there were no tellin how many folks cussin me through their screen.😂
Tools have you ever done a back to back test of a 44 mag, 41 mag, 357 mag and a 10 mm? It would be interesting if you had a 4” barrel of each and a 180 or 20” gr of each
The barrel length would be the problem. I could get close to 4" with everything but the .41.
Let's do it!
Another great video thanks for all the work you put in
I love 40 and might bump it up to 10mm once real 10mm loads become more normalized. I have a feeling I'll be waiting for a while! As such, your my news-network Mr. Tools. Thx! 👍
😎👊
Those both look like they'd be effective, but I agree that if its already North of $1/round you might as well spend a few cents more on something like Buffalo Bore which is always top notch regardless of the caliber (at least from what I've seen).
👍👍 Thanks Tools, appreciate all the test. You always do a top notch job.
Had high hopes for these loads. Very nice performance in the jelly, but still down on speed. Believe the original Bren 10 load was a 200 at 1200. We’ve definitely regressed in 10mm loading. Thanks for the test Tools!
😎👊
You are correct, the 200 grain is a bonded gold dot & the 180 seems to be the xtreme x-def. They use the same in 40 s&w with same labels
😎👊
They sure did a good job cloning the Gold Dot design. I would take these over the Berry's Hybrid Hollow Point.
I'm with you! I like the original Norma loading that defined the 10mm.
Love the content and production of your videos.
Thanks again
Lets start tagging all the manufacturers in these 10mm videos
Gundies needs a Most Level Shooter categorie.
The 155 and 165 are some hot loads. Would love to see a video on the underwood’s. Think you’ll get some really good results. I was carrying that in my Glock 29
Thanks Tools!
Both for sure are the X-Treme X-Def projectile. Great performance.... I'd like to see how they hold up to BB velocity.
Same here.
Great test and commentary. Very, very nice expansion. I would like to see the Buffalo Bore performance as well for 10mm just for the price. That ammo was descent though. Agreed on the strong 10mm comments. Good job as usual my friend. Happy Thanksgiving Tools. Be safe. ⭐️⭐️🦃🦃
Double Tap always disappoints.
T&T thanks for all your hard work and research I have 2 boxes of that bonded
Double tape mess because of u I learned what true 10 mm and 357 sig should be I have a formidable arsenal of ammunition because of you
Appreciate that, my friend!😎👊
Appreciate the 10 mil testing Tools. I have been considering ordering some Double Tap for my Glock 40, Id like to try some of their 150s or 155s, their rated numbers are up there with the big boys (Buffalo Bore)
Oh yeah, dont know if i mentioned it, but I took advantage of the Olight sale you mentioned a month or so ago, love that light!! And to be able to get the CR123 batteries from Olight for .99 cents is phenomenal. Appreciate you keeping us informed on those smokin' deals!!
Excelente apresentação, adoro as 10mm. Seus vídeos são ótimos 👏
You said it best! 🎉 I agree.
😎👊
Great job Brian👍🏻
Thank you sir. 😎👊
Appreciate these tests as a G20 owner. All I own is Underwoods and BBs in heavy HC for bear protection. Wouldnt mind finding a good two legged factory defense rnd that blows away my .40s
😎👊
Thanks! Decent performance here. But the 10mm is a tricky one to load. Your 10 mm videos are pretty entertaining!!!
That could be said from anything, buffalo bore loads any caliber or Underwood
Great Ammo test Tools 🇺🇸👊
Thank you sir.😎👊
nice video. thanks!
Great demo, Tools!
I agree, that the velocities should be higher. As is, I would run the 180 gr. out of the 6" bbl Mod 20, and the 200 gr. out of the 8" CMMG, had I not barely lived through that awful boating accident. Dumped my whole box of Panther-Martin spinners, too. 😢
Yes sir, that is why I haven't gotten into 10mm. I would be 100 percent 10mm only if ammo companies would load them to 10mm original specs. U are spot-on about the 10mm. I'm 55
I love it when you “don’t rant”. Lol😂
Wish you had used the Double Tap 125 SCHP
It’s chronographed at 1613 FPS out of G20
The wound channel is unbelievable
I would not use anything else other than
Buffalo Bore and the Double Tap above.
These 2 are far superior to all the others
These were sent to me. Never seen any DT locally.
Yea I heard you mention that. How can I send you some of the
DT 125 SCHP’s?
What’s the address?
I’ll send you some.
They are only available that I can find on Double Taps website.
Would love to get your take on the performance of these.
I’ve been studying ballistics for 18 years.
I’ve never seen a pistol round do what those do.
A quick CZcams search and you can see it.
I think speeds of 1200 to 1250 fps are respectable for 180g bullets. 10mm is awesome because it can generate good speeds and plenty of energy in heavy bullets.
If you're shooting plated bullets, most are only rated up to 1250 fps. I reload my 180g fmj around 1250 fps for plinking, some a little less. They way they smack my steel plates, I damn sure wouldn't want to be taking one to the chest......they'd find you in the next county.
😂 😎👊
You picked the right shirt for this test. I am right there with you on 10mm. Tell it brother.
😂😂😂
Thank you for the test. 🙂👍
The DT 125 SCHP has 737 ft-lb at muzzle
Eagerly waiting for new ammo hunt episode
Tools & Targets reviews appreciated 👍🙏🎯🗽🔫🇺🇸
😎👊
They seem to be some decent freedom seeds. Both grains expanded nicely and penetration was good. Another great freedom seed test brother tools.
Thank you sir.😎👊
I'm the same way with that 10 mil I gotta fn 510 on the way so I'm excited bout that but great video love what you do.
Ballistics can be perplexing. 🤨
In your previous test of the DT 180gr, the Muzzle and 50 Yard velocities were fairly consistent - the higher the Muzzle velocity, the higher the 50 Yard velocity, as one would expect.
BUT, in this test, the DT 180gr were anything but consistent. The highest Muzzle velocity was 1241 and had a 50 Yard velocity of 900. While the lowest Muzzle velocity was 1196 but had a 50 Yard velocity of 1079.
How does the same bullet start 45fps slower but be 179fps faster at 50yds??? 😳
I noticed that too.
Damn Bro! Tellin It like it is......great video.
Appreciate that.😎👊
I had high hopes for this, but it is what it is, Buffalo bore it is then. Thx for the vid TT
You should test your "hot" ammo at 115F ambient after some additional heat soaking in the sun.
Looked good in the gel
That 200 grain is my carry round out of a Dan Wesson Valor V-Bob Commander Stainless, I may have to switch to your Buffalo Bore load. A little more expensive, but after all, you are betting your life on it. Love your work, very interesting and informative, keep it up.
You nailed "GREED". Unfortunately, the world is full of it. As always, appreciate what you do 👍.
Thank you sir.😎👊
They know most people will buy that shiny tool, run a box through it(maybe) and put it in the safe or drawer and never fully test it. Good job calling them out👍.
An extra 100+ fps would do both rounds alot of good!!!! Still look like nice little flowers at close range.
You definitely get what you pay for with the 10mm buffalo bore the double tap and some of the underwood are definitely a lot better than most other 10mm them three 10mm ammo company's are the only ones I have been happy with by far other than my hand loads witch out perform all three of the factory loads. Have you ever considered or tried loading your own 10mm ammo ? You like myself have high standards when it comes to ammo and even more so when it comes to 10mm because it has so much potential and raw power that most ammo company's fall way to short on for my liking and hard earned money. God bless stack firearms and ammo.
Thank you sir. I have all the components to load some up. I just need to find some time to do it.
All of these ammo companies need to test their ammo out of four inch barrels. Not everybody has or likes a five inch barrel. I have a springfield which is 5.25 inches and a 44 revolver is a five inch barrel. All my others are four inch barrels.
100% agree. They do it so they can load it weaker and still try to brag about numbers.
@@ToolsandTargets they need to worry about the customers opinion and not the numbers.
Did anyone else notice the velocities at 50 yards were higher and lower at the muzzle? At least on the 180 grainers. That was odd.
Not at all odd. It is harder for air resistance (drag) to slow down heavier projectile because of its higher momentum. Same thing is noted with 77gr vs 55gr .223 projectiles.
@@pacnoroutdoor2668 It was only on the 180 trainers, like I said. The velocity at the barrel was slower than at fifty yards. It should be faster at the muzzle and slow down at range, not speed up. Rewatch the video and pay attention to the 180 grain velocities. It was odd.
Another great jelly test Brotha ..
Thank you, my friend.😎👊
great test.test some .38 special double tap.
There’s something to say about bullet weight here… The 180’s had several at 50 yds below 1000fps… all of the 200’s maintained speed above 1000 fps at 50 yrds…
The law of motion… even though the lighter bullets were faster at the muzzle on avg… the heavier bullets maintained their speed over a greater distance.
Perfect example of Double Tap ammo. You never know what your going to get or what it is when you get it. It is as if they just grab whatever is sitting around and load it then print an exaggerated velocity on the box. No Double Crap for me!
Another good ammo test
Thank you sir.😎👊
Good performanc as you said but, needs more velocity, THX brother Brian, enjoyed the test as always. 👍 🇺🇸
Thank you sir. Appreciate you!😎👊
Being a buffalo bore fan it's hard to compete with even tho they had good expansion not a bad ammo but i know there's better good test Tools love what you do for the channel.
Appreciate that, brother.😎👊
First! 😄
10mm FTW! 👍
💥🥇💥
🇦🇺😎👍The man that never sleeps ! …..Wonderbar , great test mate🏁
Double Tap made its name producing loaded to spec 10mm. Might as well conceal a smaller frame gun made possible by the shorter and barely weaker 40 if you can't find properly loaded 10. People need to start demanding refunds and stop buying from companies who sell a substandard product. I'm sure they'd just label it "reduced recoil" at that point.
If Speer can get their 200gr +p .45acp hitting 1080fps out of 5inchs then this 10mm should well exceed that, unless im mistaken.
Yep
I use the double tap bonded defense 180 grain HP for my Glock 23 gen 3 they do pretty good Underwood has a edge over double tap
I definitely like these bullets they're using.
I think we're all glad you don't hold back!
Great shirt! Oh the video was also good
Thank you sir.😎👊
Appreciate the great content. Agreed that the performance is definitely very good. But I also agree that a 10 should be hotter and harder hitting. Dangerous game protection must, absolutely must be as hot as possible. Self defense some of these are good. Good job sir. Get ready for a wonderful time with family with the big bird at Thanksgiving.
Thank you sir. Same to you!💥🦃💥
10mm is the best Millimeter and 327 Fed is the best Magnum !!
💥😎👊💥
500S&W is the best magnum
i agree with you about the 10mm.
I just can't help it after knowing there's so much being left on the table.
I thought about getting a 10mm barrel for my G21 but why bother when you have to buy super expensive Buffalo Bore to get true 10mm velocities. I can spend the same money and buy .45 Super from Buffalo Bore and get very similar performance. Honestly, from the tests I've seen, there's .40S&W hardcast loads out there that were running neck in neck with 10mm. Not the speed but the penetration and that's what matters if you're packing a 10mm for outdoors defense.
You're not wrong.
I despise weak 10mm. If I see low-priced 10, I'll buy it for range ammo. But if I'm paying a higher price then I fully expect to have full power 10mil as God intended it to be
AMEN!
I wonder how that same 180 grain load in 40 S&W does. It's rated 1140 fps out of a 4.5 inch barrel.
Also something else I hardly ever see is tests done on Grizzly Cartridge brand ammo. There are a few videos but not many. I bought some in 357 magnum that was 180 grain hardcast flatnose rated for bear defense and they are HOT loaded. Hot enough it left the imprint of the rubber grip in my palm which I had never felt before with other loads. I'm about to order some Grizzly Cartridge in 9mm anf 45 Long Colt. They have a Speer Gold Dot load in 45 LC that is a little hotter than most but not a +P rating.
I know you get tons of requests but Grizzly Cartridge is worth trying in my opinion.
This was a good round. Velocity want Greta but the performance was there. A different round I think you may like is the federal hydrashock 44mag. It’s a 240 grain full house load made for personal protection. From the only video I’ve seen on it from a 4.25” revolver it got huge expansion, some fragmentation, and penetration similar to a standard 9mm jhp. Great video as always keep up the good work friend
Federal hydroshok? Never heard of such a thing...
@@billrowan1957 hydra shock. I misspell sometimes
I'd be interested in your review of DRT Terminal Shock ammunition (.223, 9mm, etc). It's a powdered metal core, frangible round, that is claimed to be barrier blind.
Interesting I tried the 180 grain out of a Glock40 through water jugs, and I thought it was a gold dot. I have several boxes of the 200 grain double tap that I will also be using out of my Glock40. I can’t really be mad because they will work especially out of the long barrel. Honestly, since I have done quite a bit of a ballistic tests I am 100% certain they are gold dot.
You have saved me serious money on sub par 10MM. Still going to do .41 mag ? If so , I have an extra box of Silvertips I would like to see in the " jelly contraption".
Definitely. I wanna do a quick first shots video on the .41 mag I have first. Hopefully I can get that done after this week.😎👍
The one all the way to the right I'm almost positive is a gold dot. It doesn't look like the xtreme either one to the left. IF that is what they are with exception to the 1 that says xtreme specifically.
😎👊
Well…. What can you say again? Great performance for sure! But not up to par for 10mm velocity plain and simple. That’s just good .40sw performance. Nothing wrong with it, just not 10mm. Awesome video as always my friend 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for the test Tools. Have you ever compared the
.40 s& w to the 10 mm? Since 10 mm is so weak I was wondering how they stack up. Thanks
He took the hottest load he ever found and then seems to compare everything against that. It is just not realistic. This was real 10mm very close to original specs especially out of his glock.
Yes, a couple of times using the exact same ammo for the two.
@@corybrown8422that 'hottest load he ever found' is loaded how 10mm is supposed to be loaded.
@@timrobinson6573 lol ok. The original loading is not hard to find. 1300 fps with a 170 grain bullet. 1200 with a 200 grain. Out of a 5 in barrel.
@@timrobinson6573anyone that handloads can go to the published data and see that mid 1200s is the max listed data. Elmer Keith also pushed 357 mag WAY past normal SAAMI specs but that does mean its ‘what its supposed to be’. Ppl have an infatuation with 10mm for some reason.
