    Back in the day these rare consoles had a mystique about them. There was no CZcams to find footage on. I sort of miss that. I'd love to try out a 3DO or Jaguar in the flesh (or plastic as it were) but over the years, being able to see what the games actually looked like has definitely tempered that desire. I remember thinking Way of the Warrior and Kasumi Ninja seemed very intriguing based on magazine screenshots. Whoooo boy. :D

    • @Forever8Bit
      @Forever8Bit  Před rokem +2

      Agreed! I remember when I worked for Babbage's that we had two TVs with VCRs at the front of the store that ran game previews on thim. But since they were on VHS, it wasn't like anyone got to choose a specific game or system to see. It took a while for the stores to embrace the kiosk idea, ubiquitous in today's stores. Could have been a very different sales and gaming landscape with more interactivity.

    I remember the 3DO quite well. My cousin and I made the jump during...I was/still am a huge FPS guy so I went with the Atari Jaguar while he got the 3DO. We spent countless hours having at each other over who's super console was the best. I loved them both. What's funny is I actually went to the store to buy a 32X for my Sega Genesis/Sega CD for Doom (of course) and they were all sold out...imagine that. I wound up breaking down and getting the Jaguar instead and I was very happy with it. I do have a 3DO today with almost every game on this list minus Star Control and I will get it eventually. Right now I'm busy playing our (fiancee and I) 9th generation consoles and the Sega Saturn at the moment.

      Exactly, I think the only hands down winner was road rash over the other systems but again, it's just slightly better on 3do and not exclusive. I would modify the OPs statement of 10 games worth playing to 10 games that can't be played elsewhere or significantly better on the system being evaluated for worthiness...back when it released though and for maybe a year before other next gen systems showed up? It was amazing, but almost as out of reach as a neo geo

    I had a neighbor growing up in the 90's that had a 3DO, and second neighbor with a Sega Saturn, and a third neighbor with multiple Atari and Nintendo consoles and a PS1 which was the first modded console I ever saw modded to play burnt disks. At the time I had a NES, Super NES, an N64, and a PS1. I was a big fan of the games I got to play on 3DO especially the original Need for Speed. Same with the Saturn, I loved Daytona USA. Kinda crazy that a small subdivision in small town Tennessee had such a range of game systems at that time. I think I'll try to reach out to them to see if any of those guys still have any of their old consoles.

    Meh, I'm not really crazy about sports, racing, or some of the obtuse stuff mentioned there I played on DOS little over 20 years ago. I prefer things within the realm of fantasy a bit more that played better on the PC, and SNES/Genesis, if we're being era-specific, since PS1 wasn't even out in Japan yet. I was lucky to not only have Doom as my first game, but on a well-equipped 486DX2, as well. If it had more RPG's, and Doom wasn't so poorly programmed, slapped together in ten weeks, I'd give it a go. Sadly, the system was poorly-timed, and if there were more RPG's slated for the system, it wouldn't have crashed and burned, like it did. I'm still playing on the PS1 to this day, and I can safely say Sony won in the electronic company department of gaming.
