- This Saab 9-3 came in from another shop with the complaint of the HVAC Blower Motor not working. In this one a soaking wet passenger carpet leads me to the cause of the problem.

The power of a visual inspection followed by verification and their you have it. Plus you fixed his water intrusion problem to boot. Nice job Rob, I like your style. :)
Thanks Wyatt, Happy New Year mate 🍻
Thanks for the video. Excellent. I followed it to the letter and replaced by blower motor. Surprisingly easier to put back together than it was to take apart :)
thanks, gave me the confidence to open up filter and take a look, turns out it was just clogged and needed brushing clean, from no air to blowing a gale in 5 mins
This is an awesome teaching tool video... Thank you so much.. I am not a mechanic at all, but I after watching this...I feel somewhat confident that I can do this repair myself and at least save the labor charges...and the "mark-up" on the part price.. :-)
Excellent video, I just got a Saab this weekend and the fan is at the screeching stage, this is on my list of fixes, nice to know the fans are still available
Saab 9-3 is similar to Vauxhall Vectra C as for the blower fan and the plenum drains ! There is one on the other side as well. They clog up regularly ! Bright video as usual to show and resolve the problem !!!
Thanks very much 👍
Super useful video, thank you for going into so much detail!!
Rain... snow... DAMN YOU ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS!!
Great video as to why it's a good idea to check those plenum drains!
Yes sir, so true... but not many do check, until it’s too late
Excellent video, not clever enough to do it myself, but now got an understanding of how it works. Many thanks.
great video Rob nice to see no screws left over as there was plenty lol
Cheers Paul, yes a bit overkill on the screws.
Excellent video thank you .....a good lesson to learn as well is ‘preventative checks’ like inspecting the HVAC filter well on a regular basis to ensure the drain hole is clear 👏
Great vid Rob 👍
Nice one. Just doing some research before I crack that baby wide open tomorrow :)). Really helpful! Cheers!
She is really blowing good now!! Magic! Have a Happy New Year Rob
She’s blowing very well ever since Glen! Happy New Year mate 🍻
Nice diag & fix Rob! Happy New Year mate!
Cheers Bob, Happy New Year!
Terrific video. Extremely informative. Thank you.
Very nice work Rob and although it looked like a little bear to get to the blower, it all worked out in the end. Have a good one and don't work too hard with the New Year coming in! You should still be on vacation for the holidays :))
It was tricky getting to some of those screws but got there eventually. Cheers Terry 👍
Thanks, I have the exact same car with the exact same problem. 👍🏾
And the exact same air freshener in the vent.
Love this kind of videos,I gave you a like, many problems with heater come inconvenietly just when it's cold, had never problems with mine., knock on hard wood !
Nice one mate. Those drains are a bugger VAG do them too and they always block like the b5/5.5 passage. Knocks the alarm out on them. I got a cheap version of that tool it's a great tool but bloody hate it at the same time lol industrial supply of fuses come in handy when using one lol
Happy new year Rob!
Happy New Year Dan!
Thanks for the detailed video. My wife's Saab had the exact same issue: water in the car and a broken fan motor. I could solve it by replacing the fan using this video.
Excellent 👍
Nice diag and repair Rob 👍🏻
Kenny B Cheers 🍻
Great video thanks!
Looks like the factory goldfish option. Saab think of everything. Nice job, that colour coded multimeter is a handy tool
Yes all ready for when the GM motor catches on fire 🔥 Cheers mate Happy New Year
great vid tks
Nice one Rob , at least the ecu's not taking a bath down there lol.
Yes seen that a few times. Cheers 🍻
Had a similar problem with my Corsa. Good old GM build quality.
Thank you!
Good fix !
Cheers Norm 👍
Thanks!!!
Nice video... Thx
But...... The cabin filter housing has a felt seal where it meets the bulkhead
This seal crumbles to dust over time
Remove housing wet or dry bulkhead
Fit new seal to housing... Apply a little tiger seal.... Done.
Just saying.
Great video really enjoyed it.
Great work. The only other thing that should be checked is the gasket seal behind the cabin air filter holder. These tend to rot and crumble away over time thus causing, or allowing, water to seep into the blower motor housing and eventually damaging the blower. If you pull the entire filter housing off and find this to be the case (a damaged seal), you would have to scrape off any remaining old seal and replace it with either waterproof caulking or gasket maker. Once that's successfully done, the filter housing is reinstalled and there should be no further problems with water seeping into the blower motor area. That's what causes the interior carpeting to become soaked
I have been having this exact problem. Thanks for sharing. Easy fix
Thx you
The wiring harness that connects to the blower motor melted i had to remove the plastic connectors. I bought a whole new harness but am having trouble removing the harness. I thought about replacing just the plastic connector but cant seem to find them. Do you think i have to remove the whole dash including the radio just to get to replace that harness?
Reckon this would all mostly apply to the first generation of 9-3? Mine's just stopped running, but it's been raining cats and dogs for ages and has probably suffered the same fate. The linkage on the vent control has come off too, so hopefully I can get to that from the side by taking out the glove box.
Hi Rob, my signal wire isnt getting near as much voltage as urs was. (Mine getting under 1.0V) do you know what i could do?
Brilliant 👏 👏 👏
Another nice diag and repair vid Rob , Any reason why it did not pop the fuse , my old landrover 90 used to be the same it would get water down to the motor start to seize it then just keept popping fuses till you free up the motor .
Thanks. The motor was that big 40A maxi fuse in the fuse box. I guess it didn’t load it enough to pop.
One could have some fish swimming there in the window area :D
Hi , purchased a 2005 93 a month ago , noticed when I turned the engine of there was a tapping noise last week the blower has just stopped working however occasionally I will hear a tapping and a very slight brezze of air , sound similar to what you have just done just though you had any ideas before I take it in , I got charged for 2 glow plugs £98 2 wks ago ...maybe because I'm a woman 😕
Cheers Sarah .
gracias
A little WD-40 and it's working until I can get it fixed.
Thanks!
Hey there, my fan is not blowing in my Saab convertible, is this hard to fix yourself? Really want to fix myself or not sure if I should just to the garage
Another great vid rob. Can I ask what that tool is you used to feed the motor power and roughly how much they cost.
Thanks. Click in the description there is a link to the tool £100
2 pieces of wire and a fuse, about 50p
Common problem on these and the vectra C. I made sure I cut the rubber drain plug bigger in mine so this doesn't happen. Another thing you can do is cut the top part of a pop bottle off and stick it in the rubber drain to open it up so it always drains and prevents this
Good tip!
Hi rob is you shop in London thanks
THX Rob !!! (Y)
how does one take out the big 40 amp cabin fan fuse?
honestly, the hardest part of all of this was getting the motor out!! wish you had shown that...
Douglas Rannells Yep... bitch of a job. As I said..if I had of filmed it, my language wouldn’t have been broadcastable. Hope it helped 😀
Did you have any fitment issues with the aftermarket fan housing? I just started to replace the burnt out OEM fan on my 93ss and I bought a NISSENS branded one and it does not fit as snuggly as the original one. When I try to pop it in by the backside of the firewall. It just doesn't want to slide into the grooves of the HVAC housing. I'm about to transfer the new motor into the old OEM housing.
mrdub02 Nissans are generally good. But they are very awkward to fit
Very good video.Did you change the Heater Control Unit Reostat?Or you put the same?
Left original in there
@@OneAuto i saw actually, that it was the original.I wanted to know (because it's very important for me, i have the same problem in MY2006 aero), if you replace it with a new one, or you put the same back (with the damaged terminals).Jut in case, is there any possibility to be the HCUR out of order and need to replace with a new (genuin original off course) one?Thank you very much.
i was able to fix my original motor. in my experience the friction was on the motor end and not the fan end. i reccomend you put 3 in 1 electrical motor grease (2.99 at lowe's) and let it sit motor end down. try the opposite if it didn't get any looser. i ordered a replacement motor but by the time it got to me the original motor was spinning as good as the new one so i returned it. be patient if you want to save some dollars unless your living in extreme temperatures. you're also going to want to get some waterproof caulking to get your filter back on properly as that's most likely how water got in.
Better than taking it to a ripp off saab mechanic shop and charge you thousands great video rob
I cleaned 10 years worth of mud and pine needles and a dead mouse carcass out of my neighbors car last year. Although in that case the wiper motor and mechanism was the casualty. Those style drains seem especially vulnerable to getting blocked.
I've never really worked on a Saab before. What is getting parts for them like?
They just a Vectra in disguise so parts not too bad
Great video, mine packed in today on its 1st year of ownership by me lol, i see loads of used ones on eBay, where did you get a new one from?
GSF car parts
@@OneAuto thanks for that, I've just come in from fixing it, not sure how long term but a clear out of the absolutely filthy pollen filter, and unblocking the drainage channel and lots of WD and I have a working fan! Thanks for your video made light work of the fix for me
Nice vid!OEM part by any chance?!
Thanks. It came from gsfcarparts.com
Works on the floor just like me is good for the knees.but when you get into the job you forget about other things.love your quality image.
Haha yes knees are ruined! Cheers 🍻
Great video👍🏻 can you give me a rough idea how long it actually took to do please?
Thanks. About an hour I think
@@OneAuto thanks for that, the local garage have told me 4 hours minimum
So… in the past year, I have already replaced the blower & module. Just recently the air stopped working & I thought it could have been the module. Ordered a new one put it in & nothing… So I bought another blower. Plugged it all on turned the car on cranked the air up to finding nothing… Again. I have check all the fuses, they are fine… What else could I be missing? I am hearing no clicks nothing whatsoever when turning the air on.
I just changed out my battery on a 2003 saab, now no air movement for my ac. It worked fine before i changed my battery. Is there some kind of setting i need to change or something??
No, check your fuses or it may just be coincidence
this is for right hand drive( RHD) other wise the fan blower blades are opposed direction
I have a 2002 93,my blower heater has stopped working, blower motor is free, its making the slightest high pitch sound when I do turn it on and hardly blows anything out,any ideas, just had a windscreen change and after that lots of rain, any ideas anyone

Hi @One Auto,
which model is that power supply in 7:42?
Thanks
Hi, it’s an Autel PS100
My signal wire is giving only 0.01 V, what should i do? And how to fix that?
Listen to me if your ac is blowing hot look for fuse 20 under your hood its not marked it control the electronic fan if the fan doesnt spin the compressor wont turn on saved me 1200$ for a 3 dollar fuse. Took me over 2 years to find it. I have a saab 9-3 2009 hope this helps someone.
Hello, great channel and great vids ! Just a quick random question......i have a 60 plate nissan qashqai which i have placed a deposit on which had no mot.....the garage said they would put 12 months fresh mot on it if i wanted to purchase the car so they put the car through mot but the vehicle failed mot and the Reason(s) for failure were
Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (8.2.3)
Offside Front position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b)
Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7)
Advisory notice item(s)
Parking brake lever has little reserve travel (3.1.6b)
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
Nearside Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
Offside Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
Nearside Handbrake Cable Snapped
Is this anything for me to worry or should i go ahead and purchase the vehicle? Its fully hpi clear .....all prevvious mots where passed with advisories only mentioning brake pads/tyres/tread perished ect .....97,000 miles on the clock £6500 ?
Thanks jay
So I guess your saw my Qashqai handbrake cable video then? czcams.com/video/aOfmwlC6beA/video.html
I don’t have a clue about car values to be honest.
If they do the repairs to the car I don’t think it’s a problem but obviously you pays your money, you takes your chance as they say.
Some people advise getting rid of the elephant trunk rubber drain altogether so never clogs ? Good idea or not
Depends weather it diverts water away from any sensitive areas or not. But I’ve done that with other cars before
One Auto, thank you 🙏 in U.K. one of the drains dumps water on steering joint - left hand side one ☝️
I wonder if that filter had ever been changed!
Probably not it was pretty minging
Mine was noisy, then i lubricated and it worked for few days without noise, now stopped working completely ,even to the max level,no air blowing.Any idea?
Yep, replace the motor
Another Shop couldn't do that !
I do some of their electrical work
Hi i have a saab 9-3 2007. My blower only works if my lights are on. Any idea what it would be. 😔
Never had that before but my initial thoughts would be something to do with the control module or it’s wiring as this is illuminated when the lights are switched on.
@@OneAuto thanks for getting back to me. I forgot to mention that my son spilled a little cola on the buttons and was two days later it started to happen. I don't no if that is the cause of it. I will try get at the wires and have a look. Thanks
I seen the issue right away again, the steering wheel's on the wrong side :))
Right = Correct 🤪
Mine is working but there is fish smell.any idea?
You probably have a coolant leak from the heater matrix. That can smell fishy
Such a waste, they say black plastic is not recyclable and yet u can't just buy the motor alone, u have to buy the complete thing when there is nothing wrong with the plastic housing, so more plastic in landfill!
Mine packed up and it was the earth terminal had burnt where the ecu meets the motor, it's not working again, I'm hoping it's not burnt again!
Never been a fan of doing these .....lol
😂😂
It’s still gonna die bad Gm design all the water dirt water leaves go into motor
dont take it out give it a thump and spray 556
Will this cause the car to over heat
No
One Auto, ok i just realized my fans are not working
SAAB story🤣🤣
😂😂 You love a Saab!!
One Auto, no I do not🤣🤣🤣
I always hear people slagging gm build cars off ,I don’t get it these Saab’s are built like tanks I’d rather be driving my 2004 convertible 9-3 than a crap tin foil ford .
