For your information, the dance has many versions. The very first published notation was researched by Francisca Reyes-Tolentino (now Aquino) in his book Philippine Folk Dances and Games. The dance has versions from Panay, Samar and in Bicol. This particular version is from Bicol which was researched by Ramon Obusan in Rapu-rapu, Albay. This is also a unique dance because it was incorporated with verses sung by the dancers in selected figures of the dance, though you might have not heard them singing the part.
The steps were not incorrect nor altered. It was based on the notation given by the organizers of the competition, the music were also given by them.
As you see, in a folk dance competition, there is an entrance, dance proper and exit. The very first steps that you will be seeing in the first parts of the video will be the entrance followed by the dance proper (which is the steps based on the notation) and then the exit. To add up, the entrance and the exit does not have any definite steps to follow. So it was choreographed by the choreographer, still based on the steps of the dance.
    Hope this helps:))

Hispanic culture hasn't been ruined. Only the language has somewhat hibernated but I guess only temporary. I learned it in 3 months, a Pinoy already has a big vocabulary beforehand, just a matter of polishing the grammar. I just had surgery of my eyelids, more Hispanic. I already had my nose repaired 5 years back but I might have to remodel it again, to look more Hispanic. I also use papaya soap & sunscreen a lot, more Hispanic. Gluta sometimes, very Hispanic. See, I wanna dance Cariñosa too, really Hispanic

My dear, you have a lot to learn in Philippine Folkdances. For one, this particular dance has simple yet technical steps which includes the standard kumintang, waltz or balse, and hands swaying laterally in a tempo with fluidity... that means the dancers should not have a single note of pause except when using the props (which are the abaniko and pañolito). There are only 8 segments in this dance and the music should only last for 2 minutes and 30 seconds... You can do whatever you want during the entrance and exit routines, but the dance itself should be done correctly... which in this clip is not the case. This is a courtship dance showcasing how couples are during courtship.
Step 1 is about lovers meeting for the first time... Step 2 is about approaching each other... Step 3 is about being shy with each other... Step 4 is about casual conversation (where the girl uses her fan or abaniko to cover her face, as an old-fashioned Filipina should)... Step 5 is about them having more moments by being next to each other (with the lady fanning herself first then her fanning the man)... Step 6 is about flirting using a pañolito or handkerchief and peeking on opposite sides... Step 7 is another flirting moment with the girl swaying the handkerchief while the man tries to catch it... and STEP 8 is them chasing each other in a flirty manner...
Take a look at other versions that used the standard movements and you'll see what I mean... Here's the version closest to the standard steps: czcams.com/video/Sy18EXrueu0/video.html
