The jury voting was the problem. They gave the well-known name Max favourable points despite the bad song. As a result, Ryk was too far behind and we had to call more for Isaak in the public voting to prevent the worst from happening. If you ask me - it is a drama.

The audience votes were of course national, but the jury was international, without any Germans. They probably wanted to be on the safe side so that the Germans wouldn't send any "Schlager" to Malmö, lol
But, the audience and jury gave ISAAK the most points. I was also for Ryk and a little disappointed. But now I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Isaak.
Stage design: On the one hand, I understand that the show is paid for by broadcasting fees and it shouldn't be that expensive, but on the other hand, you could also set it up as a huge show, and bring it into the main program, like other countries do.- It is what it is, the stage show (esc) in Germany is always minimalist, the artists have no influence on it and just make the best of it. The NDR (broadcaster) still hasn't understood that the ESC is also a stage show and relies too heavily on the fact that songs can be played on the radio, so that the fees spent pay off. And that's what ISAAK's song does, it's perfect for driving while listening to music.

I think that the Artists actually do the Stagings themselves, I distinctly remember Anica Russo uploading a Vlog somewhere when she and a Group of Friends bought the Plants for her Stage.
Judging from this, it might actually very well be that Artists themselves have to fund the Stagings. And if that is true, how much can we truly expect?

A German Influencer called "Knossi" made a Insta Story and told everyone to vote Isaak because he won the Talent Show of Knossi 2 Years ago. I think that had a huge impact in the votings. But even when he wouldnt get first i dont think Ryk would have won. First because of the weird Points System wich didnt made any sense also you still could vote after the jury votes and second because he was the third most voted in the televotes. i dont get why because everywhere i looked in the inthernet the most people liked ryk and i didnt see Max Mutzkes name often.. I like Isaak his Voice and the song. But yeah staging is not that great and i think its not a good song for the ESC.

Short and simple answer: this genre is still very relevant in Germany's radio landscape and those radio listeners are the main demographic of the eurovision. I know casual eurovison viewers but they won't even bother picking up the phone to vote. so in a way Isaak is the perfect representation for Germany. and I personally do not give a shit about which country comes first. I'm here to enjoy the music, the costumes and the pure insanity of the show. I am not my nationality, I am merely a viewer.

Regarding Galant: I liked the song(the music) , I liked the performance, I liked the idea, I like cats, but I didn't like the lyrics . To me it felt as if they were not ready, not authentic, a bit confused... Idk .. why would the cat be evil? She maybe would try to appear cool or strong, but not evil. And at the end the. "cat" meets her "small/little I/Me" (like out of nothing)... And then? To me it would have been more logical if someone would have looked behind her cool/edgy behavior and she would have started to open up or something like that. If you sing in German (in Germany) the lyrics are even more important. And to me they were not convincing enough.

    • @nick3805
      @nick3805 Před 3 měsíci

Cats were said to be strongly associated with Witchcraft and the Devil, so that would make Sense, but I don't think this is what they actually mean to express.
I think that they are more thinking about how many Cats don't bond as much with their Humans as other Animals (Dogs, for Example) do. Many Cats will even run away after you move, trying to find their old Territory, so I think the Katze-Metaphor is more about the Lady who is the Katze being overly-self-dependent and unable to trust, rely on to form a Bond with other People as the Result of their Trauma. She's trying to be strong, as you said. The "bad Cat"-Part would be about her purposefully being rude to People to keep them away from herself.
The "little me" Part I would interpret as Galant saying that this pretending to be strong and fleeing from the People around them is no Way to live and that she'll eventually have to open up and come to Terms with what happened to her ("die Mauer (her Persona) bricht") This will be unconfortable for her, hence why "es kratzt und sticht".
About the "little me" I think they are refering to an Idea floating around in spiritual Circles that there is a "kleines Ich" (an Individual living Day-by-Day, spiritually not yet awake) and a "großes Ich" (the Soul) the "große Ich" obviously being the desireable one. One would have to face the "Kleine Ich" first before being able to become a "große Ich", an awakened Soul. If that's correct they are singing exactly the Thing that you suggest, just that she herself is the one having to question her own Behavior. But we don't know why that is. Maybe she met someone and wants to get close to him, maybe she herself isn't satisfied with how Things are going, we don't know. But I think it's a good Thing. It may make the Song more relateable to more People.

    • @nick3805
      @nick3805 Před 3 měsíci

      @@esc.norway Personally, as a German, I oppose @inrivaalfosso3663's View.
The Cat-Metaphor is most likely refering to the Fact that Cats arent as reliant on their Owners as other Pets, Dogs, for Example. There even is a high Possibility of Cats running away if you move because the Cat doesn't really care about it's Owner, only about it's Surroundings.
This would go well with the Meaning of "Katze" as the Song is about a Woman that was traumatized ("Jemand hat sie verflucht"(Eng.: "Somebody cursed her")) earlier in her Life and now keeps her Distance from other People (by being rude: "Die Krallen trägt sie lang, das war immer so. Lässt keinen an sich ran, sie will das so"; "Auf ein nettes Wort brauchst du erst gar nicht zu hoffen" (Eng.: "Her Nails she keeps long, it has always been that Way. Lets nobody get close to herself, she wants it that Way"; "For a nice Word you shouldn't even hope")) because she completely lost herself in the hard Shell (the Cat-Persona) she built herself for Protection.
The "little Me" (dt.: "Kleine Ich") is an Idea floating around in spiritual Bubbles. The "little me" is when you live day-by-day, with no higher meaning or Purpose in Life, where as the "Great Me (dt.: "Große Ich") is basicly the awakened Soul that found it's Purpose and Meaning in Life and, in that View, the naturally desirable State to be in.
Basicly when the Cat-Lady meets her "small Me", she sees clearly that she can't continue to live that Way and finally starts her Path towards reaching her "Great Me" ("Die Wolke bricht ganz hell in ihrem Augenlicht" (Eng.: "The Cloud breaks in her Eyelight") => Possibility A: She sees a Cloud splitting up. What is behind the Clouds? Clear Sky; Possibility B: The Cloud in her metaphorical Eyes break, she can now clearly see herself through them again)). This is highly unconfortable for her ("es kratzt und sticht" (Eng.: "It dcratches and stings"), but neccessary.
Basicly, the same Thing OP wants the Song to express is expressed, with the small Difference that the Cat-Lady sees the Truth about herself herself and doesn't need the Help of someone else for that.
In the End, you could say, the Person really becomes a Cat and it's not the Persona - Cats are known to be self-reliant, and the Cat-Lady finds the Way towards the "Great Me" herself and gets better by herself. It's actually quite the relateable Song, if you put in the Effort of understanding it.

@@nick3805 Long nails and not allowing anyone to come close to her doesn't make her evil. It's just the nature of a cat to be independent etc. And you don't just see the truth about yourself out of nothing. Anything has to happen, to make you think about yourself and understand sth. about yourself. Maybe she felt lonely or fell in love with someone, but couldn't show it or anything.... But nothing is said about the why. That's what I mean. And as I said, I like the idea, but to me it's just not "smooth" enough.

    About German songs:
It always feels super patronising to me, when people talk about how German is such a beautiful language and we should use it in this international competion. Because while I absolutely love the German language. Most people do not consider it beautiful and there are lots of people who make fun of how it sound. The music that is popular in Germany is not what Marie Reim did and it's sadly also not what Galant did. Them winning was always kind if unrealistic.
I also think it might also be an age thing. While online you see a lot of Ryk and Bodine Monet fans. The people watching the NF, were not just the people you see online. Older people, more casual Eurovision watchers.
The fact is. Isaak won both in the jury and the public vote. There's nothing we can do about it. No matter how much you liked Ryk or Galant (they were my favourite, too). And that's not Isaak's fault. He did his best and people liked it.

Many countries would have left ESC after these rather unfair results. As you mentioned Lord of the Lost got No 1 in charts and in UK too. So this result is a joke - a very bad one! Regarding Ryk he got too less points from the international juries. I was very happy that Sweden voted 12 points for Ryk. The main Problem with our voting was the show itself.
It was watched by 2/3 of 50+ Year olds.
Most viewers where not there because they knew much about the esc, and wanted to see the pre selection. Most people watching were just there, because not much was running at 10pm, for old people.
they didnt pic Isaac because he was the best choice for esc, but because he looked like a nice dude, someone who you want as a "Grandkid" or "Son in Law".

The ESC Main Event is actually quite popular.
Last year we had about 8 Million Viewers, so a bit less than every 10th german watching.
And we had very good numbers on the younger gens.
67% of the Gen 14-29 were watching, so 2 out of 3 of them.
As comparison the pre selection was only watched by about 3 mil.
But our problem is that german TV it self is as dusty as it could be. The younger generations barely touch it.
I myself only watch 2 or 3 shows from our public television per week, and thats it. And even than i watch it online instead of in the tv.
Tv has become a thing for the older gens.
And on top of that, we are having the problem that the preselection was a total shit show sadly.
It was not about the songs but rather a 3-4 hour long talkshow between one of germanys most obnoxious show masters and her guests. The Songs itself were not the focus of the show for whatever reason.
Than we only had one small show, in one small studio with little to no love for the stage or anything.
And it was running at 10 pm on a friday night, at the same time as "ZDF Magazin Royal", kind of THE Show in german television. Its a political satire show, and its especially loved by younger gens.
So noone of them was following the preselection...
Sorry for the wall of text btw ^^'

During the last years Germany ended up in many countries on 12 th or 13th place. You know what I mean? If you are not in the TOP 10 you'll get no points. Consider my German Self an Antifan. I don't like the Performance and would fully go along with your Critique, but I also don't like the Song, my Main Issue being the Chorus:
    Run Un Ah Äh
    Run Un Ah Äh
    Run Un Ah Äh
    Run Un Ah Äh
And he sings that Thirty-Two Times. The Chorus consists of 75% Filler Words and it just doesn't sound good. It sounds underwhelming, anticlimatic and drags the whole Song down. The Elements for a good Song are there, but the "Run Un Ah Äh" destroys any Potential this might have.
As a German, I'm also baffled by how this won our Pre-Selection, if you go on Social Media you'll find no German who likes this Song and even in the rare Case one does, they also admit that it's not right for Eurovision. Likely, there are two contributing Factors:
    a. Viewership among young People (14-49 Years old) went down by over a Third (from 0,71 Mio. down to 0,46 Mio.) while the overall Viewership rose by 200.000, meaning that this Year, we had a significantly older Audience watch.
    b. They left the Lines open until significantly after the Jury Votes were announced and transitioned into the weird 1-12 Points System that totally screwed over Bodine, Galant and Gyk who were 3rd, 4th and 5th Place. They all had 51-55 Points, just like Max Mutzke, but because of 1 or 2 Point Differences, he receiced 10 Points, while Bodine, who had just as many Points as Max received 8, Galant 6 despite only having 3 Points less and Ryk only 5 despite still having only 4 Points less than 2nd Place. By that Point, it was basicly impossible for Ryk to still win, so I guess many of the young Folks who had Votes left simply voted for Isaak to prevent the worst (namingly Max Mutzke winning) from happening.
Overall, Isaak winning is a Symptom of 2 mayor Problems:
    1. NDRs Unwillingness to organize a proper ESC Pre-Selection befitting of Europe's largest TV-Market and 2nd largest Music Market and
    2. The general Faillure of the Public Service Broadcasters to attract and cater to young Audiences.
Conclusion of the whole Tragedy from my Side:
"Auf ein nettes Wort brauchst du erst gar nicht zu hoffen"

90% of the ESC songs are basically the same lyrics over and over again. Even songs That have a high bookmarkers vote like Croatia. It's 10.000 times ting ring a ding or something.

@@i_am_human76 Rim Tim Tagi Dim does one Thing differently through: The Rim Tim Tagi Dim Parts are essentially Baby Lasagna singing the Melody of small Instrumental Breaks in the Song that would be there regardless - he still has 3 Verses + an Instrumental Bridge and a proper Chorus independent from the Rim Tim Tagi Dim. Point is: Rim Tim Tagi Dim does have a Lot of Repetition, but this Repetition doesn't affect the Amount of "real" Lyrics. In Run Un Ah Äh, the 1 1/2 Minutes-long Cycle of Run Un Ah Äh (Yes, I did actually go out of my Way to measure it, it and the "run run run ah~" and "done done done ah~" Parts in the Pre-Chorus make up 1:32 in a 3-Minute-long Song (I know, the Studio Version is longer, but he won't perform that)) do replace "proper" Lyrics in the Chorus, the Main Part of the Song. This is especially a Problem since the Song is trying to be emotional. Repetition doesn't express anything but what already has been expressed and in Excess is just a Sign of a Lack of Creativity, especially if it's just random Sounds or Onomatopoeia.
I have the same Issue with Ramonda which, after a promising Beginning, also descends in a similarly endless Repetition of "Lila Ramonda, Lila Ramonda" or "No Rules!" whose Verses are literally 2 Lines each and everything else is Henri singing the Pre-Chorus or Chorus. I also dislike the Lack of Lyrics in "Tattoo" - "Eaea"'s 1st Verse, which is also a Song with a Lot of Repetitions, is already longer than both Verses of Tattoo even with their Pre-Chorus. The Problem is not Repetition itself but Repetition limiting the lyrical Contents of Songs.

0 points for Germany fifth year in a row - 😂 it is so ridiculous - ESC: you want to be in a Top 10 Germany: Hold my beer - we want to run run ... away 🏃🏼‍♂ 😆

I totally agree, the staging is too much, it should be just a road lined out moving under his feet. His styling is HORRIBLE, Just black would be enough...The song is decent, the voice is strong, and yes, it is outdated. I also agree that Galant was unique, but I loved Ryk and I am shocked that he did not win.

galant was the weakest from the 8 possible contributions. lord of the lost fully deserved last place at esc 2023. isaak , ryk or bodine would be all great contributions to represent germany at esc , so i am happy for isaak , but i would support all of them 3 , but now the choice was isaak , good to see u respect the german voting from the jury and the country.
