Stop blaming just the office workers not being there. People in the bay area don't feel safe to go to SF. Bay area has a lot of money and if SF is safe people will go there to spend money. Why are people missing the obvious? Make SF safe and clean and money will go back. SF leadership really love their homeless, drug users, criminals more than anything else. Smh

SF's "leaders" will continue doing everything possible EXCEPT the right thing: laws must be enforced [uniformly and consistently] to make SF safe and clean. This is never going to happen as long as "progressives" are in charge.
Without public safety, nothing else matters.

This is why the issue will never be resolved. Looking at this from a business perspective this makes no sense and seems like a deliberate plan to purge the city. Everyone know crime is the issue, yet none of these cities failing are focused on it.

I moved to Florida in 2008 to start my own independent career and it was the best thing I ever did for my life. I return to SF to visit family. I work out there as a photojournalist covering NASA, SpaceX etc. Sure I miss a lot about CA especially the outdoors & drier weather. But the cons are off the charts, I’ve never regretted leaving and my money goes further here, my quality of living is much better. Obviously nowhere is perfect, Florida has a lot of issues too, housing costs are rising due to less supply and everyone is moving here now. Winter here is perfect, Nov - March I’d rather be nowhere else. April - Oct is really humid and hot, but unlike Texas we at least get daily storms to cool off. No state income tax is nice, and policies more supportive of starting a business. I know defense contractors who moved their HQ from CA to FL. I won’t be in Florida forever the summer heat is a bit much for me I’ve never gotten used to it. If I could afford it I’d have a house here for winter and live somewhere else for summer.
I have several friends who live in St Pete, all ages, and they all tell me they absolutely love it there. They are all from out of state. Three off the top of my head are from Southern CA, Wisconsin and Ohio.
South FL is another story, it’s too hot and there’s way too many people, lot of crime, & it’s expensive.

$104,000 is now consider "low income" in San Francisco. This is according to a HUD report 2 months ago, but I don't see any media talking about it. Up $22,000 in just 1 year. The cost of living is strangling the middle class in SF, we can't afford to eat out, especially when restaurants have had to raise prices by 20% or more. And the middle class drives your economy. I don't see this getting any better, as one small business after another gets decimated by a lack of customers that can afford their prices.

When you disarm the public and tell criminals that they can steal up to 950 dollars worth of merchandise and get off with a slap on the wrist you are setting things up for a dream world for criminals. Start putting these scumbags in a prison like they're doing in El Salvador and how much crime do you think we would see??? Spare the rod and spoil the child. It's one of the oldest sayings in existence but it still applies.

Where the wealthy can influence the laws and rules and and simply get richer and richer while more and more folks end up on the streets or in jobs that don't pay a living wage. Barbacco is a restaurant that catered to the banking crowd. SF lost that crowd with the advent of computerized trading floors. SF also lost the high tech crowd with the raising of interest rates by the Federal Reserve Board and the loss of cheap money and venture capital. Finally, near zero interest rates fueled commercial property speculation that was unsustainable. Bidding wars resulted in sky high valuations which required sky high rents. San Francisco is going to get worst because of the increasing number of unwelcoming and aggressive "public" park security guards who are more concerned with trying to ask for identification to issue citations than dealing with the rampant vehicle burglaries. These ridiculous clowns in green uniforms with batons try to act like cops when they are Not cops. Sooner or later, these wannabe cops is going to cause injuries and fatalies to innocent people. They are managing the "public" parks like private property. On public streets, they try to chase down people for parking violations.
Critical reform is needed to make these less like cops in terms of their vehicles, equipment, badges, uniform colors, so the public and cops can distinguish them as civilian employees.
Amend their job tile to one that is appropriate for their job duties like park monitor or park service ambassador.
Change their uniform color from the full olive green color to the light blue shirt color like the parking enforcement personnel. Also switch their star shaped bage to the more circular shaped or oval shaped like the parking enforcement personnel.
Currently, they have police scanners inside their vehicles, so they go show up to the police calls and interfere with the first responders on scene. So take out the police scanners from their vehicles.
Modify their emblem on their vehicle doors to the city seal like all other city vehicles.
Modify their lightbar case to the amber color matching amber lights instead of the clear case.
All these suggestions are to discourage or deminish the consequences of risky conduct by some "public" park security staff. They need to remind of that they are Not cops.

Sad. From 2012 - 2018 SF was a fun time. Some of my fondest memories are from living in The City/Bay at that time. Yes, it was still exspensive and homeless/drugs were an issue, (not as bad as post covid) but the area so vibrant and and full of life. If there was truly a solution to not only bring SF back, but make it better, I'd love to be apart of that change. Most of the people in the comments probably have never even been to SF or Cali at all, and only watch stories like this to talk shit, that somehow makes them feel better about themselves I guess? Nobody ever wants to be apart of the solution. Just use up, discard then complain. Rinse. Wash. Repeat. I hope SF reinvents itself and bounces back. It's one of our most unique cities in the States (we don't have a lot of them.) Who is hype to go visit some bland, cookie-cutter, middle-of nowhere USA? Nobody.

If you think the city was great from 2012-2018, too bad you didn't live there in the late 50's thru the mid 80's. San Francisco was one of the most beautiful and charming cities in the world. I can't even begin to tell you how magnificent the city was back in the day. If was a different generation and era back then. No internet, cellphones, people actually had to communicate face to face with people. I do hope one day SF can return to it's former glory! "I left my ❤️ in San Francisco"

People don't feel safe parking their cars down there for work, let alone dining. Too many break-ins, smashed windows, passing ugly sights and smells. SF used to be so successful. It's not hopeless, once the old generation dies off their replacement will be rational.

I know if you go to downtown Atlanta yet it's pretty dead but if you go a few blocks up it seems like that's where everybody's at Midtown and that's where all the condos and residents are. Surprisingly enough downtown Birmingham is doing pretty good to theirs even adding residence to theirs old Historic downtown and converted an AT&T tower to condos

Hahahahahahahahaha, I program for a living and have been working 100% from home since the pandemic. Sorry, there are too many options for me to work from home. I literally save about $15K a year working from home. I save $5k alone just on train fare. I have many friends who left high priced cities once the pandemic started. Some have left the country to go live in much cheaper areas. I feel sorry for these guys, but I don't see things ever going back to what they used to be, because it's just easier to make ends meet not going into the office, among other reasons.
