    We look at the similarities and differences of the CFA and Actuarial Profession. This is just a short video on the topic and a lot more can be said on the topic, therefore I do encourage you to research more and even check out the past exams of both to see which one suits you better.

    Actually you got it wrong. The passing rate of cfa level 1 is 42%. And from those who passed level 1, they appear for level 2 and among them the passing rate is 40% again. And among those who passed and reached level 3, the passing rate is 50%. So straight up saying passing rate in CFA is 50% doesn't sound right and is highly inappropriate considering someone who has knowledge of mathematics.

    Hi MJ,
    Thanks a lot for all the videos and knowledge sharing with us.
    I need a small suggestion from you, if you could reply my below query, i will be really grateful.
    1. I am a software developer and data scientist, having 8+ years of experience in coding, data analytics & machine learning. I studied engineering and post graduate in Applied Statistics. But, i am greatly interested in finance or investment domain. I have cleared entrance exam of India Actuary Institute -ACET and wrote CT1 paper. Currently preparing for CS1 - Actuarial Statistics. But, I am really confused, if the actuarial path will leads me to correct career path in Investment/finance domain.
    2. To build career in finance or investment domain, which path is better to pursue - Actuary/CFA/ Quantitative Finance ?
    3. I am 30 years old. Is it already too late to switch career at this point? Or you advise me to stay at my data science career and try to move into finance domain with gaining other skill set or finance related certificate?
    4. I am currently staying in India and planning to move Canada next year. Will be good enough to get a job with 4-5 papers cleared in Actuary with 8 years of coding & data science experience ?
    I know it is a long post. But if you could reply me it will be really helpful for me. Looking forward for a response from you.
    Thanks,
    Kalyan

      Hey Kalyan. So Actuarial Science is about Insurance, Investing, Saving and Lending. If you are only interested in lending, I would suggest Quant. If you are only interested in Investing, I would suggest CFA. You will get frustrated with Actuarial Science because we spend a lot of time doing maths and stats for Insurance and Savings (Pensions) which might not be of interest to you. So I would recommend CFA as it will get you to your career path quicker than the actuarial route which is notoriously long.

    I'm studying actuarial science at my college but i have to pass the exam anyway from the society or the institute, so i have been thinking that i will take the CFA because it's so much easier and i thought that i could do what the financial actuary could do after taking the CFA ...AND after this video they aren't the same obviously!! So which exams i should pass to be a financial actuary ?? I think i don't have to pass all the exams because i already will have my degree and all that ..i just want to work as an financial actuary,so which exams i should pass ?!
    Thank you 😊

    hi, i don’t know if you’ll see this or not but i hope you can provide some advice to my problem if you do. i’m currently a high school senior in Indonesia, and am in a dilemma on whether to study Finance or Business Mathematics (Actuarial Science). with most of my high school education being held online, my mathematics isn’t as strong as i’d like. i’m more interested in finance but am scared that i’m settling for less by avoiding the maths in actuarial science. i’m also scared that the maths in actuarial science will be too much for me to handle. what’s your opinion on my situation? thanks in advance.

    • @MJtheFellowActuary
      @MJtheFellowActuary  Před 3 lety

      Better to do the maths and then finance as a specialist subject. Finance without the tough maths will give you an incomplete picture of the subject.
